    Good video to help newbies get introduced to the game. One thing I would suggest is that when it comes to gloves make sure you spend the little extra, most beginner gloves have a thin palm, the palm will tear as it rubs against the hockey tape on your stick. Get a leather palm or else you'll be buying gloves again.

    That's actually a harder area to find protection for. I usually never wear any padding in that area. A good chest protector with extra padding is your best bet, but that can be pricy. They actually sell some elastic under armor with reenforced padding in that area. You can find them on some of the online hockey shops. However, the padding is a pretty light foam padding. It might help with people hooking you in that area, but will not do much if you take a puck there.

    Purely down to your build you need (at minimum) an intermediate level skate to support you on the ice. The make and model will depend on what feels right and fits you correctly. If you have wide feet Bauer Supreme ONE.7 if you have narrow or average feet Bauer Vapor X5.0

  • @mattheweldridge9750
    @mattheweldridge9750 7 лет назад +1

    Hey. Just want to say first I think the work you do with these videos is a great. That being said I think what information you have about skates is a little wrong. For each type and line of skate, the higher the price the more stiffer the skate... usually. Top of the line skates that cost upwards of $450 - $600 CAD are going to be stiff. Different types of materials and so on. If you are a beginner skater I wouldn't recommend this type of skate. Having these very stiff skates, unless you already know how to skate, can hinder your movement greatly and be quite painful. You are better going with something that has more flex in the ankle where you can really feel your edges and work up to a stiffer boot that is made to transfer power more that feel your edges. If you are a beginner skater, grab a skate where your ankle would fit and squeeze it. If you can squeeze it is then try on the skate and if it feels good buy it. If you can't squeeze it in, just put it back. Once you have a pair of skates, skate as much as you can and work on edges. Then once your comfortable you can work your way up to the more expensive skates. The stiffer ones. Let me know if you have a different opinion.

    • @HockeyTutorialOfficial
      @HockeyTutorialOfficial  7 лет назад

      Hi Matthew, Really appreciate the feedback but its super important to know that skate level (meaning high end or low end) is not only determined by ability. If you are a beginner but are incredibly built/heavy, low end skates will simply not offer the support required to even begin learning to play hockey. There are so many factors to consider when purchasing a skate and these are just a few. We created a video on "cheap vs expensive skates" and also another one on "what is the best skate" which highlights these points in more detail.

    • @mattheweldridge9750
      @mattheweldridge9750 7 лет назад +1

      Hey. I watched the videos and you make really good points. Skates have come a very long way. I'm just getting back into after 15 or so years and the level of technology that has gone into skates is quite remarkable. I remember learning and working hard on focusing on how to use your edges and you needed the ankle to move quite a bit to be able to achieve it, at least I did. With these new skates it seems impossible. They are so rigid and come up so high that even bending over forward is painful and uncomfortable. I've been reassured that once I get used to them that I will notice a difference for the better and that profiling, especially if you are used to working with your edges, will provide a nights and day experience which that in its self is a very new concept to me. Anyways your videos are very informative and I look forward to watching more. I've been thinking about starting my own channel about getting back into hockey after so many years so keep an eye out and maybe you could throw some pointers my way in the comments. That is if I get around to making it. Stay good.

    A couple things I've figured out as a newbie: if you are a woman you should probably get woman specific pants and shoulder pads (which I did not do lol). For some women, because of their build, it will be a necessity. Some of the used gear I got was so old or ill-fitting that I just took it back and got new. Prolly the easiest gear to buy used is elbow pads and shin guards. If you have really wide or narrow or otherwise oddly shaped feet or hands that could be a pain to fit.

    Sorry to say, but the brand recognition vs price bit is a little backwards. This may just be in the U.K. where CCM, Rbk, and Bauer are more well known. But in North America (Canada), Warrior gear is usually more expensive than gear of comparable quality from other companies. Either way, great videos, very informative for beginners. Keep up the good work

      In the NHL, maybe 40%+ of players use Warrior; at least for gloves and sticks. I tried on numerous brands of gloves and chose Warrior gloves. They felt best: better mobility, coverage and all-over protection.

    First off, you are great to provide this. I've been getting so much better because of your help. Thanks. My question is about gloves. I have spent DAAYYS now, in and out of stores and all over online, my easton's and my last 3 pairs of gloves rip in the fingers as much as palms. Not sure the conversion chart, but dollar wise I'm looking in the 70-99 range. CCM CS and Sherwood T90 feel great, but will they hold up? Do you have any recommendations besides? Traditional or Contour is fine
