    This was a real eye opener. Thanks for revealing a part of Abu Dhabi that is rarely marketed for travellers.
    And, as others have noted, I too have used university and hospital cafs around the world as reliable (as in good quality, inexpensive and varied choices) eateries.
    Safe travels guys!

    WOW! Masdar city is beautiful and impressive. The temperature is hot in the winter in Abu Dhabi. The robot taxi is cute and I agree it is a futuristic transport. The lunch looks good and affordable. As always, thank you for the tips and sharing your experience. This is the best frugal travel channel!

    Hi Mandy / Lee, what an interesting vlog.
    The place looks quite interesting. I loved the brown building with wavy curves.
    That self driving car is so cool, it feels like being in a Sci-fi movie.
    Funny to see electric car in a country that made trillions selling oil 😏
    I understand it was a time of the day when folks stay home but what an empty place.
    It feels waking in an abandoned town apart that everything is new & clean.
    Food looked delicious, healthy, filling & cheap. Great deal.
    Wishing you a lovely weekend there in NZ, take care 😎

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  Год назад +1

      Hi Sergio. It was pretty trippy walking around there. Feels weird with hardly any people around. I think it will take a while for electric cars to catch on here, what with the price of fuel, there's no real incentive.
      The food was so good and reasonable there, we had to keep going out of our way to go back for more. 🤣
      Have a great weekend. Cheers from down under. 😁 ~ Lee

    Loved this video! Terry and I have visited Masdar city but unfortunately I don’t think the driverless cars are available on weekends or at least the day we were there. Hello Linda. We were in Abu Dhabi in December/January, when the university was closed, which is why it might have been so quiet. There is a good bus connection to go to other places, if you check out the Abu Dhabi videos on our UAE playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLCmNbKU5iMrldLG5hm-8BxeVJMOgUO6-M&si=hv6HxSIumbTjTwk4

    What's a 'bane marie'?

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  Год назад +1

      It's one of those commercial food warmer thingies that keeps the food hot for hours in buffets and cafés.

    • @SERGIO-cr6uy
      @SERGIO-cr6uy Год назад

      A bain-marie (AKA water bath or double boiler), a type of heated bath, is a piece of equipment used in science, industry, and cooking to heat materials gently or to keep materials warm over a period of time. A bain-marie is also used to melt ingredients for cooking
      The name comes from the French bain de Marie or bain-marie, in turn derived from the medieval Latin balneum Mariae & the Arabic ḥammām Māriyya, all meaning 'Mary's bath. In his books, the 300 AD alchemist Zosimos of Panopolis credits for the invention of the device Mary the Jewess, an ancient alchemist. However, the water bath was known many centuries earlier (Hippocrates and Theophrastus).
