Stefan Everts, 10 times MXGP champ, was there ! OMG. After his amputation after recovering from Malaria, amazing to see he can still ride and enjoy offroad !
love the way you cocked up the corner and where most people would be on the floor you still managed to turn around and wave apologising to the people behind! such a skill.
cheers for the -"look at him go !" 😂i was feeling the pressure !! man that was a class few days riding, day two and three especially were so much fun. Mad respect to you hustling the big girl around like that 🙌

im always curious about johnnys riding style: it doesnt seem like he's pinching the bike in corners that much with his legs more than balancing it quite loosely. awesome control, so impressing.
Great video! Thanks for sharing this! But tell me: what was that “9” on the dash there? I haven’t seen that on your bike before. 🧐 Edit after finishing the video - legends! Chris and Johnny on that ridge on day two! Great footage of really high level riding. Love it!
G'day mate, watching your traction control settings as you ride, you seem to change it around but stay mainly in setting 3. Can you enlighten me on what your preference is there? And why? Also is it different if your on a 790/890 verses the bigger bikes?
Honestly it’s not something I focus on that much. Other than making sure it’s in nine on the street sections and one on the slippery or sand stuff I normally run it around three.
Definitely mastering your rear brake modulation and control is a very important skill. We’ve got it all covered at the say no to slow videos saynotoslow.nz
Meaning on/off? You just need more practice to get the feeling. You could try wearing trials boots that have a softer sole and thus greater feeling than MX boots but take it easy with them as they don't offer that much protection. As a rule of thumb one needs to apply the rear brake a fraction of a second before the front (in low traction conditions in general) to get the forks a tad compressed, it helps a lot with chassis stability and increased traction for the front thereafter.
Hey Chris besides the dust, is it better to have another rider just in front on tracks u don't know well or at all? I've ridden both in front and behind and found watching the rider in front gives me some time to adjust my line. Great riding, I'll be as good as u in my dreams🇦🇺💜🌠 Aussies were awesome 🤘
Love this but pls angle your camera up. Or shoot with a higher vertical option like 4:3 or 5:7 on GoPro and you can crop later for higher or lower angle later.
Those gigantic dashboards look terribly out of place on a big adventure bike. They are going to get damaged easily. Also whats the point of big screen with so little data on them, the same is with car screens. Gigantic screen, but only few words and a picture over the 10" screen. awful idea to do it on a this kind of bike.
@@ChrisBirchNZ Not sure about that mate. To whoever I talked, nobody is happy about the big screens. *this* big screens. If there was android auto integrated, that would maybe make it better. But having a almost 10" tablet in front of you, only to display a picture of the motorcylce and on the side, "rain, street, off road" options, is not what people thought about bigger screens. These screens will get damaged easily. And I bet they are expensive to replace.

That looked like fun! And well done to Mrs B for the editting
Chris, just laughing at you,
“This guy is so fast” haha 😅🤣👌🏻
Suspension of that 1390 looked pretty dialed off that monster step down. 500lbs+ bike sucked it up like it was nothing, was absolutely incredible.

Portugal is a great place to ride!

I am seriously stressed watching this, I can't imagine trying to keep up!
nices video and scenary, I see your finger cluch goes out from time to time on the 1390, it must be wierd a clutchless enduro bike.

What are the two bikes that drop off the ledge at 3:40? Can’t figure out what those are for the life of me.
Ahh nm guess they are the 450 rally, never seen those before.

Do u have the Mitas ENDURO TRAIL-XT+ on the 1290?
And i see u switch between mtc 4 , 3, and 2.. is it that sensitive on almost the same underground?
Keen to know the answer as well...
Yes, I often use the pro version as well. Don’t read too much in to what MTC numbers I use. I often have no idea what number it’s on 😂
Mr. Chris...apakah ada kemungkinan anda datang ke Indonesia?🤲🏼😁
I wonder how much of Portugal has dirt tracks like this. Looks exactly like SoCal 2-track.

On the video, the bike that Chris was riding, perhaps a new 1290, did not seem to be as responsive or easy to drive like others. Is that just me?

It’s definitely easier to follow. Safer as well.
So... what happened to the 1290 that it needed a tow ? Nice tow strap by the way.
It was a 690 that burnt a clutch out on a muddy hill.
Will the AMT be in the R model, or just the S? I saw in your description that you wrote "prototype only."
I understand it’s going to be an S model option only.
@@ChrisBirchNZ Understandably so.
@ChrisBirchNZ I'm surprised, given the marketing.
At 1:37 is the new 1390 in front of you, right?
Tfw a 1290 is getting tossed around like an enduro. 👌
It's the rider, not the bike! :D
Are the ktm "tubeless" bands enough for this kind of riding or do pros use tubes?
I was running tubes, Johnny was running mousses. A lot of the customers were running the standard tubeless with no issues.
