  • The Dr Barbara Sturm skincare brand is one of the most hyped and much loved by celebrities but the truth is it is one we should all be avoiding. Find out why in this Dr Barbara Sturm review
Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin. Today we are talking Dr Barbara Sturm skincare, a brand which I constantly get questions on and whether there is a place for it in our skincare routines. The truth is that there are a number of issues which this brand which need to be called out and I will be doing just that in this Dr Barbara Sturm review.
From Kim Kardashian to just about every participant of the Harpers Bazaar Go To Bed With Me series its hard to escape the Dr Barbara Sturm skin care line but with it firmly sitting in the luxury skincare category it is hard to see how the products justify the price point.
Beyond just the high price point for the Dr Barbara Sturm hyaluronic serum there are issues of a lack of transparency and also with some problematic products which I will call out in this video.
This skin care review is in no way meant to discredit Dr Sturm herself who has built this line of products and clearly invested a great deal of time and whom I speak highly of but the brand and the formulations have a long way to go before they can justify the high price point of the products.
I would love to know your own thoughts on Dr Barbara Sturm skin care so please leave me a comment below. Would you pay $250 for a hyaluronic acid serum?
If you enjoyed this video and would like to see more full brand reviews then please give it a thumbs up to let me know.

I remember MANY years ago, one had to spend money to get the most advanced skincare products. I also remember when drugstore brands started making their own versions of these products. If a brand like Estee Lauder dropped an innovative skin cream, then six months later, the drugstore would have it. (1980's) Now, the affordable products have their ow R & D labs!
I just wish I could have been a fly on the wall when Barbara Sturm was introduced to The Ordinary🤨😂😂😂😂

Absolutely EXCELLENT review and I agree 💯 percent with everything you said. The price is straight up gouging for what you get. A great high end Korean skincare line is Sulwhasoo. Their price point is high BUT for what you are getting in terms of ingredients it’s a great line if you wanted to splurge. If I was to splurge, Sulwhasoo is what I would splurge on. Although I enjoy watching Dr. Sturm’s videos on her products, I just cannot justify paying $250 for a hyaluronic acid when I have a Korean one called BAHA that is $9.99 for 2 oz; which has 100% pure hyaluronic acid. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    • @MadAboutSkin

Its a total pleasure hun and you are so right, I have no issue with higher prices so long as it is reflected in the quality of the products which is just not the case with this line.. I will check out your Korean recommendation. sending you lots of love xxxx

Enjoyed this video!! Agree that her prices are ridiculous and I'm honestly not a fan of their marketing. I would prefer more science in skincare marketing. HOWEVER, I am lucky enough to have had a chance to buy and try almost everything in her line and I have loved 80% of her products. And have repurchased and still using some of my favorites 3 years later lol.. Some of her formulations are really good!!! Also to take note that not all similar ingredients are formulated the same way. The formulation process in different labs are different. And that's eventually part of what you're paying for. For the labs to run, for the chemists to research and formulate, for the lab environment to be kept at optimum levels etc. I actually do have better skin because of her products so that is proof enough for me that her products are very well-formulated. Are there other brands that would probably work the same, yes. Is it worth the pricepoint if you're concerned about budget, absolutely freaking not. I have never paid full price for her products. I get them on cultbeauty every 4 mths or so when there are 20% discounts.. I'm not in UK or EU so I get around 16% tax off too. So on a good promo day, most of my Barbara Sturm products I pay 36% lesser lol 😍😍

You've literally said everything I've been thinking of the brand...
I have noticed anytime celebs advertise this they mention that Barbara sturm is a friend of there's, like Cher, Paris Hulton etc.
I was confused by the sun drops, generally the spf rating is graded by mm by square inch or something? Usually a teaspoon of sunscreen for face and neck right? I just can't see how thats protective enough and surely it wouldn't last a week...
I'm sure it would be nice, but the cost is just to obscene.
Would Love to see your thoughts on Dr russo "once a day" sunscreen brush on gel...

This is such a late comment to add but she was a guest on the podcast BREAKING BEAUTY and she was the most insufferably arrogant guest who answered every question with a nothing burger and contempt. She actually snapped at the hosts because they asked her if a consumer was wondering on the difference between the HA offered by The Ordinary versus her own and she was so offended and asked if they even tried her products. The ladies are not hard hitting journalists who go out of their way to confront their guests and she was just one of the meanest people I’ve ever heard being interviewed. She was so evasive about the specifics of her products and as a consumer that gave me major red flags. I think she’s so used to her countless celebrity endorsements that it’s beneath her to explain her product line. If that’s her attitude I don’t know how she managed to coerce retailers to carry her brand. I will never buy any products from that snake oil foot doctor.
They interviewed Huda Kattan a couple of episodes prior and she was one of the loveliest people I have ever heard be interviewed and not once have I ever considered getting anything from HUDA BEAUTY, but after that I very well might. Being kind, even just civil, really goes a long way.

Excellent breakdown, Rob. I think we can all surmise why this brand is heavily marketed towards celebrities and high end customers, not only because of the cost, but also because most of them tend not to be too discerning about ingredients or worry about effectiveness. They have their exclusive in-office procedures for that. As you said, no shade towards Dr. Sturm, but there's an exploitative nature to this brand that can't be denied.

I You just have to email their service team and ask them for the full breakdown of ingredients of an item that you’re interested in and they will 100% send you all that information they have done that on their website to minimize the amount of information on one page of one item that is just a brief recap of the item it is not supposed to include every single ingredient but it is not a secret they are very open about the ingredients and the list of ingredients and will send you any information that you were looking for I would highly encourage you to do I understand your point of view all though you have to understand that every brand has efficacy and every ingredient is backed by science and those that are have information and studies not just online but also another formalities as well she does not endorse meaning she does not pay any of her clients to endorse her products they just do it because they love her products. I do however understand the thinking of why everything is so expensive although I do truly know that the way she creates and the type she creates of her sermons are extremely expensive to make therefore they are going to be higher cost
