  • Oftentimes you'll end up with a ring halfway up your pool tile, or it looks like calcium or some sort of scale
And the reason that happens is the minerals in the water as the water evaporates, those minerals stay in the water and attach themselves to the tile.

To help prevent that, a part of a routine maintenance you can use a tile cleaner specifically designed to remove that. But once it gets too embedded in the tile, the only way to remove that properly is to have it bead blasted.
If you use other products to try and remove it like pumice stones or sharp objects like metal knives to remove it or acid. All those things are too aggressive and what will happen is you'll damage the tile, especially if it's a glazed tile, you remove that glaze and then that minerals will come back much faster the second time and you won't be able to remove it.
So if it really needs to be cleaned, hire a professional that will bead blast the tile. After it's been cleaned, make sure it gets sealed and then part of a regular routine maintenance clean that with a a tile cleaner specifically designed for pools do that on a regular basis to prevent it from reoccurring.

I appreciate you sharing your expertise here! I’ve read elsewhere that Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are effective for routine cleanings. Do you see any cause for concern that these could cause long-term damage or unwanted outcomes?
    Thank you!
