That's Seymour Duncan standing behind Lee at 8:20
Just casual legend Seymour effin' Duncan chillin' in the background
Cornelius Larsen y
Cornelius Larsen Where's that man? Time marker please?
9:27
Oh man, that knotty wood strat. Love it! I looks like a Swedish kitchen chair from the 70-80's.
Lasse Huhtala looks like a futon I had in my basement 20 years ago. I wouldn't make a guitar out of it. Next year they will build them from broken pallets found next to the dumpster behind the factory and charge double. Who says the economy sucks.
Notmy Realname Broken pallets you say. Already reliced. I'm getting an idea. :-D
21:23 Your camera guy is a dirty man!!! 😉😉😂😂👌🏻👌🏻
Max Scardanelli glad someone else noticed
Nice shot !
kind of awkward
Blackwood is a medium-sized Australian hardwood that grows in South Australia and the eastern states. In the wetter areas of Tasmania it is grown in large volumes for commercial use. It is definitely an 'appearance timber', with a heartwood that is a rich golden brown.(as from The Net)
You know what? I own a 'fake worn' Heavy Relic Custom Shop Limited Edition Strat, it's amazing, and it's comfy with the wear. I'm a professional musician, and play it all the time. If people don't like it, and say it doesn't count, that's great! I love it, and I'm the one that had to spend over two and a half grand to have it. I really couldn't care less if you don't like my guitar, because I love it.
Really appreciated zooming in on the woman's behind. Thanks guys. Was only going to give you one thumbs up until that point, definitely two now.
Would love it if the Custom Shop something other than relics nowadays.
They still make Custom Shop NOS guitars.
Pete takes every chance he gets to mention his custom shop tele. Lol it’s so funny. I love this dude
captain didnt fancy the orange Strat well i do ;)
I love aging guitars! On my own.. by playing them.. for years and years and years..
I love some of these guitars. very cool. great clip guys.
Mick Thompson in the background \m/
I own a heavy relic Larrivee electric, I made it that way by playing clubs in the 90's as should be done.
Great video! Fun to watch their honest reactions to the guitars!
Heads up, that lollar charlie pickup in the tele is so fucking amazing, i played one in a Maton T-Byrd and the tone is a whole next level.
"Something's in the way..." *zooms in* "but that's okay" You guys crack me up LOL
That 12 string Bass is the Tom Petersen (Cheap Trick) signature model. He came up with the idea in 1977 and has been using them live ever since. In the studio , he sticks to a traditional 4 string however.
You can tell they're not bass guys..
"Yeah that's just a Jazz Bass -moving on"
C'mon guys, give us bassists some coverage!
Ryan Bunning Im sorry but your not important.
Ryan Bunning they did go through the Ibanez bass at NAMM2017 it's a separate video.
i love how your cameraman focussed on the TOM PETERSON poster whilst you were goofing about on his 12 string bass!!!
These days what I like about seeing the Custom shop finishes is that it gives me ideas for refinishing a cheap SX or Squier - something I've done several times already. I don't have that kind of money to spend on a guitar these days.
Incredible stuff, i wish more artist would go and play cool finishes like those
So you guys have never heard Cheap Trick? Tom Petersson has used 12 string basses for years and the sound is massive.
T.K. Back in the 70s there was a UK bass player who made a 13 string bass, the 13th string being a motorbike cable running down the back of the neck to counteract the incredible tension of the other 12. Can't remember his name unfortunately.
thats the tom peterson signature bass it was tom himself who designed that bass
Aged, yes. I have a couple. They get more positive remarks than any. Great vids. Blue and tortoise shell is beautiful.
I like blue fenders with tortoise shells, and crazy high output humbuckers. (I like weezer)
Captain ! ... man i can feel ur excitment being around all those guitars ....
It's awesome that Paisley finishes are getting some love recently. I just wish the more affordable MIJ pink paisley Teles had a slightly more "muted pink" like the custom shop models' finish.
Haha!! Mick Thompson here! 17:10
Was about to comment this haha
That means "Gotcha Mick!"))
Well spotted, it's pretty surreal to think loads of guitar/music heroes are just strolling around checking out guitars.
well his band member is sponsored by fender
Nookie Lang yesssssss
Absolutely loving the necks on those limited edition professional models featured in the beginning of the video! I think I might have to get one of the teles.
That blue tele with tortoise, and cherry sunburst strat are the bomb
The banter going on around 4:19 was hilarious! hahaha
Love Cherry Burst. My favourite finish on a Tele.
Beautiful guitars.
Fender used to make pinewood guitars back in the day because of the price, not because of some fancy property. Same thing with ash, which was also very cheap back when the brand started.
Dudes, every year I forget to check if you guys do a NAMM meetup. You were about 5 mins from my house. Some day, one year I'd love to buy you lot a drink. One drink, six straws, you can share :-)
Is no one going to talk about Mick Thomson from Slipknot in the back at 17:00
Jared R. Tarin they're brits they don't know what real American metal is
17:56 ah ah ! What does Mick Thomson (from Slipknot) do here ? (left side of the picture) Does the fender strat will be his next guitar? Sounds interesting ^^
It;s like watching a gay couple shopping
I always thought that ...
truly beautiful.
Lol, 22:04ish
Entertaining & funny vid guys...Crossroads solo in background still sounds epic..
Love how you didnt notice Seymour Duncan standing next to you :) 9.00 mins hes the guy with he grey hair.
Thanks/tak for the videos! Tjek Squier CV Teles are pine, too.
I'm with the Captain on the tortoise shell pickguards. That blue/tortoise Tele is a stunner.
Seriously, I'll do my own relicking, thank you very much. And if I want a refin, I'll do my own refin as well. You can't buy the memories.
Pete's response to The Captain asking him to go to the gym with him in the morning is my response to whenever anyone asks me that question
I only know "african blackwood", which is called "Grenadill" in germany. It's used very often for bagpipes like smallpipes or great highland bagpipes and also in sometimes for uilleann pipes.
How can i skip a ad of kirk Hammet trying to break a set of ERNIE BALL PARADIGMS, right before a episode of the NANM show
Wasn't that old guy Seymour Duncan?
Harige Wipwap sure looked like it
Harige Wipwap sure looked like him
I saw that too. it was!
it was seymour the man himself and the guys didn't even notice him lol
That Tele and Strat at 09:56 looks awesome!!!
oh captain plz work out a deal on those new jags they look orgasmic !
so the Custom Shop became like the normal Fender line somewhat. When you look at the production rate one has to wonder how "custom" those guitars really are anymore
"Savage garden" That's the first time i saw the Roswell guitar.
At 1:45 in, you guys lift the Knotty Pine Telecaster. Wow! That's gotta be my next Tele! ...Of course I'm gonna want a Humbucker in the Neck (Ala "Deluxe") and a Bigsby vibrato setup on it. Gonna have to call the Custom Shop I think! (Love the engraved Logos too!)
Thanks for the walk through Cap, I watched the Anderton Guitars Booth walk through just before taking in this vid. Well done!
Best line... "as the wind blows, it just drags your amp into the water." Wait for it.
That black wood Tele!!!!!
I looooove the shoutout to The Boss!!
Great videos. Loving the coverage so far!
21:26 yooooooouuu son ofa biiiiiaaaaaacccccchh
the commercial before yer vid is "franklin strap.com" playing while my guitar gently sleeps??? is such a priceless moment- so please consider these folks to yer line up on the vids at andertons or TPS..... thnx...
Fender should re issue Richie sambora model with 24 frets with floyd rose ✌🏻
im supposed to be writing a paper but the uploads keep coming D:
I'm Fucxing fan of IBANEZ & JACKSON loving high gain and sharp shape, but FENDER always kicks my ass that Fender is one of the best guitar makers in the world. All of them are fucxing lovely..
I have nothing against Relic guitars however I would prefer the builder spend those 15-20 hours they used to relic the guitar on making the guitar sound incredible. I really don't need the cost of the guitar going up because we have to pay someone to beat the thing up.
I like my guitars pristine and shiny!
I really dig the relic black over sunburst finish.
Pete Hawthorne
Reminds me of David Gilmour's guitar
We want the Chapman Booth !
akash gupta Now up
Crimson Guitars do a "Raw" series that uses very knotty or unusual chunks of woods. Fender fit and finish looks top notch though
21:23 cheers cameraman ! xD
PLEEEAAASSSEEE do top shelf guitars on any of the guitars you get from NAMM
23.54 the side board strats and tele's behind look really country western type guitars!
Tim Lerch has a Lollar Charlie Christian p/u in one of his Teles which sounds mega. Check him out--great player.
"We've got something in the way.." -zooms in on the booty- hahaha
I think the 'Knotty Ash' is the Ken Dodd tribute model...
I loooooooooove the Tom petersson 12 string bass.
I do like the bass vi but I definitely wouldnt pay custom shop prices for one
Gonna, paint my Fender. Gonna paint it fine. Gonna use an oil based paint, because it's made of pine!
Love that red Telecaster, and that copper, closet Strat. So many guitars so little money.
It's interesting to me to see the gear and hear your well informed commentary on products. I've learned a lot by watching your videos. In this specific case, it was fun to watch but I really don't get the appeal of the "aged" / "relic" / "road worn" instruments. Clearly a lot of people like them, and that's fascinating to me. There's nothing wrong with people liking it, there are lots of things people like that I don't, and that's okay with me. I just don't get it.
Who cares how heavy or light a guitar is?? Unless you're a senior citizen with shoulder problems, just play the damn thing and appreciate the beautiful guitar you're playing.
John Miller well i have a bass made of hard maple and it's like 12 pounds. it's bad on my shoulders
The Ghost of the Flying Dutchman what about upright basses? ...shoulders should be completely relieved from weight pressure....I would think.
John Miller I don't play upright though. I think it would be cool to try
The Ghost of the Flying Dutchman I've heard people say that a "true bass player" is one that plays a stand up or upright bass.
John Miller I would disagree
Gilmours black strat is a refinished sunburst
Waiting for gibson
Reliced guitars are not for me Captain , let me buy a mice shiny new one then if it gets knocked about its by me and its real.
@26:50 is that crossroads i hear faintly in the background?
I would like to see some industry numbers on guitar sales. I think that guitar playing is a dying art. In my town anyways in Ca. the kids are just not interested in putting in the time, they would rather be on a device of some type
Relic guitars are the ones that get a few dings in them during the manufacture process - instead of calling them production seconds and sending them out cheap, they purposely add a few more dings and scrapes and call them relics... BS in anyones language. A Squire will play and sound as good as any of these guitars for a tenth the price.
Ah the Roswell, I remember that over 10 years ago!!
i remember that incident in 1947? or was it 1957 nah im pretty sure it was 1947
In my eyes, buying a beat up new guitar is similar to buying a new Defender or Jeep with factory sprayed on mud so it looks like you did a lot of off road driving.
im a fender fan, both the guitar and the amp.....however im very surprised that Cap would spend almost 30 mins for his vlog at the fender booth lol......gibsons are classic too, but they always tweak their electronics to keep ppl wondering whats now....unlike fender :D
more NOS customshop please guys! got my customshop postmodern strat from you! And yes its NOS
The red tele...
I wonder who the first person was who said, "You know, I really like that guitar, but is there any way you could beat the hell out of it before I buy it?" I just do not get it. Then they charge you more for said beat to hell guitar. Nope.
Keith richards
Alec Howe Ha! I wouldn't be surprised. If that is the case, my next question would be "what was he on at the time?"
The story is that he commissioned a replica of one of his tells and when the custom shop gave it to him he complained about it looking too new and the relic was born...
Alec Howe Yes indeed, apparently that was the Genesis.
Fair enough. To each his own I suppose.
haha, is that Seymour Duncan at 09:45?
sure looks like him ..crazy spot though
Relics.
17:13 Mick Thomson from Slipknot in the background..
Great coverage =D love the new branding too!
Anything with FSR for 2017?
And yes to more jags and jazzmasters...... although I was noodling on a tele when watching this video..... right where is my jaguar?
A Charlie Christian pickup on a Tele -- now I'd love to hear how that sounds!
6672rock it's a perfect match!
Must be because I'm going through a Father Ted-trip but Pete speaking reminds me of Dougal
There are so many ways that you could actually improve a Stratocaster. Mine has a Villex passive mid-range boost tone control and it will go with me to the grave!
I LOVE aged guitars
Question for the Relic/Non-Relic crew..
If you see someone playing a grungy looking guitar, do you think you could tell if it was bought like that vs. "earned"?
From now on, a pick guard will be referred to as a "scratch plate"!
