    Depends on what part of the chest you want to accentuate. For esthetics I like going wide

    • @Bobw324
      @Bobw324 3 дня назад +5

      @@matthewlopez8521 even for strength you should go wider. Close grip means more triceps involvement and less chest. Which is interesting if you want to hammer your triceps but if the goal is to move the most weight, more chest involvement is ideal.

      @axlvanaudenhove6564 2 дня назад +2

      For heavy loads you actually test it by going with the bar to your chest. You want your forearm yo be perpendicular with the floor. This helps you for your wrist injury prevention, stability and because you go woder, with shoulder pain/injury prevention.
      But in all reality, you can just go vy preference. For chest you go wide. For more compound you do normal like in the vid. For tricep you do close grip.

      @rockyevans1584 День назад +3

      @axlvanaudenhove6564 it's always a compound, you're never taking any of the muscles completely out. Even on a close grip I get a great pec pump, it's a bigger rom and always good to have a variation for barbell movements as they tend to beat people up if they're hammering the same movement 2 or 3 times a week

    There's an indentation on the bar for your middle finger. Its the perfect grip for focusing on your chest and less on your arms.

      You know that everyone's body is different, right? That's great that you've found a solid grip that works for you, but don't speak in such absolutes when we all have different proportions

      @@rockyevans1584it’s kind of like a sock or hat. Size fits most. But if you are different by all means get a very advanced trainer.

    • @rockyevans1584
      @rockyevans1584 День назад

      @@emperorbraphomet you don't need a trainer, let alone someone very advanced. It's all trial and error, everyone needs to experiment to find what currently works for them, and it can change drastically over time. I'm just taking issue with you stating your personal preference as the standard most should adhere to for the goal of hitting the pecs on the bench. It's the perfect grip for you currently to hit your pecs. That's it.

    I do the same thing. First time I did it though, I just did it instinctively. Just adjusting to a level of comfort while still executing full range of motion. I’m sure that’s how everyone’s approach was too

      As you mentioned, this is some Johnny one plate action, and also, that's exactly where one would spot someone. Do you have your boys straddle your midsection? Where the heck else would you spot from?
