Dave allen was a absolute diamond of a star, just love watching him, he brought the most mundane things of life to reality and made it hilarious what shame we haven't got comedians as good anymore. God bless you dave allen
I was 23 in 1993. Evokes so many fond memories seeing Dave’s old routines. He was brilliant. I’ve seen all his shows now countless times, but I still laugh out loud every time.
Been on the hunt for the first half of this show for years, I lived in South Wales so HTV/ITV aired this exact version which I loved. Many thanks for sharing this. The man taught the UK 🇬🇧 how to laugh at life and not take ourselves so seriously. There will never be another Dave Allen.
As to the difference in editing of that first show, maybe that Thames TV had started to produce the first couple of shows towards the end of 1992 & then passed it on to another company (Carlton) when the franchise was taken over .Is that series recoded in a Theatre rather than a studio? A major network treat like Dave ,who had been absent from both BBC & ITV for a couple of years, you would think the same show would go out in all areas at the same time? But what great material! Imagine the fun he would have had with smart phones ( if they'd been around then)& call centres.
Thanks for posting this. I had almost forgotten how much I loved him. The one man who could make me have a proper belly laugh, even just after a couple of minutes. Bingeing now. Thanks Dave for your amazing take on so many many things, and always so so funny.
I remember watching this as it was broadcast. It was my introduction to Dave Allen. Novel at the time, as Carlton being a new ITV company. Great stuff from him, really shows his skill as a stand-up. I don't think it was ever repeated - or available on physical media. Thanks for posting this up.
I saw Dave Allen live in the 80s. He walked on stage and the whole theatre roared with laughter! No warm up man. The three of us were 3 different generations who laughed with every line. When we left, I no longer had any make up due to the tears rolling down my cheeks for 2 hours, my gut ached from laughing and my jaw was locked into a permanent grin still laughing as we relived the punchlines and stories hours after we left. Such consistent comedy magic.
Very weird that depending on where you lived and which local broadcaster you had, you got a different episode. To date nearly 30 years later no one has ever been able to provide an answer why.
You are not my brother... Even though you have the same name He never appreciated Dave Allen like I did The best comedian I know... There were some good ones in his day But not one who could match Dave for sketches and stand up... He began the style the poor so called comics of today try to mimic...
Gosh this was one of the first shows of the then new Carlton channel which came into force in January 1993 - it was brilliant then and it is still brilliant now!!!
I managed to cobble together the lost footage of the 7th episode so figured as a tribute to Dave I would get the whole series in one place for people to enjoy as quite a few accounts have uploaded his stuff and monetised it which I don't feel is right. He never made money off repeats so why should anyone else, his comedy should be for all to enjoy so I felt it right to share them all.
"the man who did to the economy what the pope didn't do to anybody" LOL! I could almost hear the audience thinking what would be the answer to that... BEEP!
