I think Gohan at the beginning of Super was definitely his most low point even more then the Buu saga. But I'm so happy Toryama listened to the fans and perked him up again. Let's hope he now stays like this.
Well the thing is Toriyama wanted Gohan to be the new protagonist of DBZ (back then). The studio and majority of fans were b!tching about it. Toriyama really didn’t even want to do the Buu Saga, as he felt the story with Goku and Vegeta at the helm had run it’s course . Now some fans are upset that Gohan isn’t as prevalent as he should be , when Toriyama literally caters to what they want . Even making a lot of stuff canon .

I know a lot of people say Goku was always the main character and while I don’t mind it Gohan should’ve definitely been the new main character or at least a more important character like he had so much potential and I feel like the DBZ Super would be a lot better as a story as he could keep growing and getting stronger and I know what some people may say saying he’s not a fighter and was meant to be a scholar but I think that’s what would’ve have made him a more interesting protagonist as he would be fighting to save the world and keep getting stronger so he can live the life he wants to live with his family and it would be funny seeing him complain about fighting aliens when he doesn’t want to but has to

Piccolo is my favorite character and he's not a better dad than Goku. Goku isn't there because he's constantly training to protect Gohan or he's recovering from protecting him. He's the only one who believed in Gohan to get to ss2 and he got rid of his normal merciful behavior to tell him to quickly eliminate Cell. Then he sacrifices his life to save Gohan for the 2nd time. Anyone who says Goku is a bad dad is dumb and doesn't understand what it means to be a good father.
Something that I wish they would implement more in terms of Gohan as a fighter is his vast intellect. They portray him as academically brilliant but I would love to see that moreso applied to battle strategies in more situations than just teaming up

Uub was a special case as he had more potential and was a better candidate for being Earth's ultimate protector. Plus, Goten was typically slacking off while Gohan was a scholar, and he later lost his Ultimate form some time after the end of the DBZ anime in Toei's original anime continuity (or it was possibly before as a retcon). So Uub would be the best future protector with his dormant Kid Buu power. In the DBS manga continuity, Uub has dormant god power in addition to Kid Buu's dormant power.

You really know why they made Gohan so weak? Gohan is the audience surrogate. He represents the average DB viewer from the 90s who grew up watching the show, and has also grown up and moved on with life, now trying their hardest to make up for lost time.

Both have shown than the OG of Naruto anime is still Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. @@ggisoldNah, Vegeta should technically be just as big or a bit more than Gohan. Vegeta was introduced after Gohan but he had more spotlight in Super so he might have more screentime

If Father is Original Character of any show then there is no way that his son/daughter will be shown stronger. Best example is Boruto The Next Generation where despite Boruto (son of Naruto Uzumaki) being labelled as titular character it is Naruto and Sasuke who have managed to steal the show Be it there fight with Momoshiki or Naruto and Sasuke vs Issiki. Both have shown than the OG of Naruto anime is still Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. If there is a series where Son has to defeat father then only the son will be shown to grow stronger than the father. Shows like Lelouch Vs. Charles Vi Brittainia - 'Code Geass', Seto Kaiba Vs.
