Let’s explore megalithic Tarxien temples in Malta. This neolithic site consists of four interconnected ancient temples, which are more than five thousand years old. The oldest dates back to around 3600 BC, so it’s almost a thousand years older than the most famous ancient structure - the Pyramid of Khufu. Massive stone blocks, spiral carvings, animal reliefs, and the “Fat Lady statue” were made by the people who used only stone tools!
After exploring this spectacular complex we will travel through the picturesque island of Malta to see the Xemxija rock-cut tombs. Those truly ancient burial structures date back to 3800 BC! Isn’t it amazing? Are you ready to go inside with me?
Let’s go!
Explored in September 2023.

Wow Irena! This episode is really a masterpiece! You are taking and improving your unique Documentary Style to a new level!
I love all the little details and the direction of this episode!
And about the content this episode is simply outstanding! I love how you show all the details of the work on the rock. Those rock patterns are amazing. Also the all the complex looks incredible! One of the oldest places I ever see on YT!
And the Neolithc tombs are really incredibles! I love all the prehistoric tombs, because even with smalls details or some little archeological evidence, those tombs can give us a valuable information about the human life form ancient periods.
Thank you very much Irena for your work! ♥
Oh my, what a wonderful comment! Thank you so much! 🥰 I'm trying my best to show you ancient sites as good as possible, I'm so happy you enjoy my videos!
You are welcome Irena!! Your work and content is Amazing!! ♥ @@ancientsitesgirl
The size of the monuments is simply gigantic and even an earthquake does not move or break them! Thank you so much for showing us this beautiful island. Your friend in Key West Ingrid Holm.
Thanks for watching, best regards ✌️❣️
When was this earthquake? I live in Malta
Great to see you have enjoyed our Tarxien Temples. Shine On!
Thank you so much😊
Taka mała wyspa, a tyle starożytnej historii. W końcu Ancient Sites Girl dokopała się do epoki kamienia. Super!!!
Dziękuję!!
Hello Irena! So glad you're back to your original format! I was really missing the walk throughs, it's why I subscribed. Malta... WOW! I hadn't realized the history of it. Going back to Neolithic time. It's truly a testament to the stone masons not having Copper tools. The Artistry and engineering is remarkable. It is frustrating when you go to places that don't allow cameras. I share your disappointment. Can't WAIT to see your upcoming video's. As always, keep up the great work you and your camera person, and for god sake...wear BOOTS! 🤣. 🤘😁🖖🇨🇦❤️
Thank you Colin! I know you've been waiting for my "typical" episodes... Me too!! 😁 I'm so happy you enjoyed it! I forgot to take my Reeboks! 😂
really wonderful program, I enjoyed if very much, the subject is of much interest
Thank you
you are warmly welcome @@ancientsitesgirl
I didn't know about you until now, but I am now a new follower! Just left Malta today.
welcome on board!
Awesome video! I did not expect an ancient temple there at Malta. Are you still there? Maybe you can go check out where Popeye with Robin Williams was filmed at. I've always wanted to go there since I saw that movie because they have really beautiful beaches and rocky islands around. Maybe someday I'll go there and I'll be sure to visit the temple as well thanks to this video!
Thank you so much Todd! 🥰 Unfortunately I haven't been to the so called Popeye Village as I didn't have enough time/resources (I was focused on ancient sites and wanted to visit as much as possible during my stay). I'm sorry! 😔 Perhaps next time! ☺️ Have a great weekend! Thank you again!! 💜
13:13 the hole contained water (erosion on the lower step) and was likely covered by the broken slab at 13:23. The little square passage has 2 holes on each side probably for a door to prevent pests from entering, just wide enough for a jar to pass (12:54). Just a wild guess though 😉Thank you for sharing these awesomely detailed tours 🙏
Wow! Thank you so much for this info! I truly appreciate that! :)
Wow! Really enjoyed that. Incredible place in tiny island of Malta. ❤
Thank you, I recommend my other videos from Malta✌️
Always great to see an ancient sites video. Keep up the work
It's good to see you again.

Hello Irena!!! Fantastic videos !!!
Thanks ✌️
Excellent ! Are you an Academic, in Ancient History ? One might well think so, you are very precise and well researched. If this isn't your full-time job, maybe it should be ! You are a great storyteller
no, it's just my passion. Thank you✌️
@@ancientsitesgirl How are you able to travel so much, if this isn't your full time job? If you don't mind sharing.

@@ancientsitesgirl Of course! I’m impressed with all the walkthroughs of these sites you do. I appreciate the work.
This is a rather psychedelic place where your spirit would take a trip 👁️🧘
😵💫all these spirals....
As always thank you
Great to see you in Malta!
Any chance you will find time to talk to Laura Tabone from Megalith Hunter?
I wonder how these early inhabitants could reach the islands of Malta. Where did they come from and why did they stay at these Islands ??
various theories... apparently, when the first settlements appeared there, the Black Sea was rising rapidly, forcing people to migrate westwards, Malta was then a forested, fertile land, perhaps connected to Sicily by a network of archipelagos. Perhaps we will learn more over time. Regards
Let's Gooo! Irena do you and your partner ever feel sad when you visit an ancient site? Like you were born too late to experience such cultures or do you feel like those times would have been a hard life?
I'd say: BOTH. The best solution would be time travel. See, experience and probably come back after some time. 😁 Thanks for commenting. :)
Just saw your channel for the first time and really enjoyed it. Your voice is lovely, and the information is fascinating. My first introduction to the corpulent goddess sculptures was from Marija Gimbutis’s book “The Goddess” do you know it?
Of course I've heard of her, but I've never read her books😋
See you on the next. Cheers 👍💯
Well done!!!
Thanks!
Super...
Excellent to see you again!
You've lost weight. Looks good.
HELLO 🤗
Loved it, thanks!

I see you and Indiana Jones have something in common. You both hate snakes 🐍. That emoji looks more like a green duck than a snake.
😂 😂 😂 It really does! Indiana Jones had better hat! :(

NOT TRUE!!! YOUR HAT IS A PERFECT MATCH FOR YOU!!!💓💞💜😻
😎 Thanks! 😁 I don't want to but I have to confess something... I LOST IT! 😭
@@ancientsitesgirl
Oh, NOOOOOOO!!! I'll never watch your channel again. 🫣. Of course I'm joking. Can't wait to see your next vid. Can't wait to see your next hat.
The hat! The hat!
when in Malta, were you told about Sansuna? or Lois Jessup's experience at Hal-Saflieni's Hypogeum?
I mentioned Sansuna in the video from Gozo, you can't enter the Hypogeum with a camera... even with a phone!
I'm new to your channel. When one first sees these structures, one is glamoured by them; as a local the glamour has worn off, and my eyes read a different story, a different kind of awe. There's a lot more that is not public/advertised, all this on a teeny weeny bit of rock in the middle of the sea . . . it's kind of special!
I saw the Maltese temples before some of these were covered over by a tent and metal railings hemming in visitors. Considerable damage has been done to certain features of the temples. I find this disappointing, I'll not return to Malta.
@20:38 - These palm 🌴 trees are very common in Arizona
(North)America sure has some very interesting and diverse ecological systems

Hi Beepboop - Glad to see you here.😃. No matter where you live, there's always something interesting about the local environment.
@@catman8965 very true but i live in Canada so there is the added benefit that the province i live in is many many times larger in area than New York City or London, but also about as many, if not a lot less, people. the emptiness is a quality all to its own 🙂
@@beepboop204
I Agree 👍
I don’t know if you are intuitive or “sensitive”, but do you ever sense different energies in some of the places that you visit? Especially this site where you mentioned there were some dark ceremonies.
That rattle snake sound at the end would make a horse kick u in the face ? Why play that
Nice video thanks thumbs up 👍
Thanks for watching!
Para Bolic mirrors were used to melt rock in ancient times but They look like big cement blocks that we know the ancient people used to make when you have so much sand and lime and crushed granite powerded rocks that were easy to transport it is not difficult at all for one person to make those blocks using readily available materials, sand stone is easy to shape
Theories need to be based on available evidence. All evidence we have points to what you've said being incorrect.
- Mirrors: Though Malta lacks the natural resources to make mirrors, it is known Malta did trade in those times with nearby places. However, not a single mirror fragment or sign of production has ever been found. No stones in the temples show any signs of having been melted. Furthermore, there is no substantial evidence for mirrors or lenses being used to create ancient sites - truly viable lenses were not developed until thousands of years afterwards.
- Cement: Malta only has sedimentary rock (i.e. no granite). The temple stones are whole and natural stones, not made of any cement/mortar, nor joined by any cement/mortar.
25fps??? Seriously? Panning is a slideshow.
You already lost me at 5K yrs old

Could you please elaborate? Thanks for commenting. :)
Weird my comment got lost.
Well, Leonie Reedijk research indicates that the temples are much older
