LizDg just do it. Do whatever you reach to do! I draw & painted faces since I was little! Went through lots of discouragement, am still struggling due to different reasons, yet am an Artist, everything I tend to do it to the best of perfection, that's why in part I struggle, delayed, & some jumped on me with bad attitudes because they're not accustomed to an Artist being doing their air conditioning job for example, which is mostly what I ended up doing. Yet am buying some tools to do wood carving, leather carving, etc, but painting a face could be more profitable, but I needed to don't be stressed, to paint, so long story short why am I tell you "do what you can"? Because that is what e can do. Am 46 years old, stuck & frustrated, I can't buy a property where I live now, I need to stay rented, thanks God am paying for rent. Thank you so much for posting this. I am getting back into the craft after 40 years. I have my grandmother's Craftool stamps and they are great. I've been having fun practicing. This video showed me some things I'm doing right, and some I could do differently.
thank you for your time and guidance. You have lifted the fog that was my understanding of leather carving. I look forward to watching your other videos. As you seamlessly show how carving leather is accomplished, your skill to artistically put a flower on a bank piece of leather is not coming through on your video. I guess some things cannot be "taught", without allot of practice. You, sir, are an artist.
I just realized I need to a video on drawing and transferring patterns to leather. Thanks for the idea! In the meantime you might enjoy this video ruclips.net/video/uuS429O7Ncg/видео.html
Bruce, you make it look so easy. You do excellent work, it gives me something to strive for as I only started about 6 months ago. Very helpful thank you.
I got into leather crafting about 18months ago and would just like to thank you as your videos have given me so much information and inspiration along my journey so far, I am sure I will keep coming back to them as my journey continues.
the best leather carving I've seen so far....I was looking for a video that would reflect the quality I was looking for in order to even bother to try it out :D
What a great tutorial. Thank you sir. Great details and I love how thoroughly you explain what your using. Mostly I love that you remind us that great things can be achieved with very little.
Bruce Cheaney I can definitely appreciate that idea. No doubt you have an abundance of creativity - I remember your leather fidget spinner! Those were so creative! And they worked!!!
that is the first time I've seen someone wet the bottom... would you explain, please! thanks and love your work and appreciate you passing on your wealth of knowledge.
What size knife blade are you using? Your knife marks cuts easily and smooth. My knife blade cuts choppy and doesn’t glide easily. I thought was dull, so I sharpened the blade and then used my strop on it. Richard
I am a beginner and watch a lot of tutorials. I’ve learned a lot but have so much more before I can even begin. Something I’ve never heard anyone explain is how deep should you make the cuts with the swivel knife?
I just go by feel. I will try to come up with a better answer. Here is a link to my tooling and carving leather playlist. ruclips.net/p/PL67GVf_YNcynO0r2Vdq06e7GUOBYzhCUH
Goals!!! Thank you so much for this demo. I am a jewelry designer looking to get into leather crafting & was wondering which tools are most used. I have a 30 lb box of scrap leather (I would hardly call it scrap there are some huge pieces in there lol) waiting for me to play with I got a few years ago bc the price I couldn’t refuse. Thank you!
Bruce, I hate all you pros. I work so hard to find a way to get the spacing good from one circle to another. I use everything in the books. Then you come along with a neadle and just go after it like it's second nature. Shame on you. I love watching you and everything you do. Some day something mite sink in. Never stop. I love it.

Most of the time I wet the whole piece and let it case a while. If you wet the back side it will give your tooling and carving more depth.
@@cheaneysaddles ok, thanks. I'll give that a try on my next practice piece.

I use a thin hollow ground 1/4" Barry King swivel knife and blade most all the time.

Hello Mr Cheaney: Where do you recommend purchasing quality saddle strings? Or, do you make your own?
Thanks
American Leather Direct is a great resource for leather and strings.
