I broke mine on my x1 as well. The best thing you can do is go down a few teeth on the main cog (front sprocket). I went down to a 32 tooth. You lose some top end speed, but it's a much more usable range for climbing. It also puts way less pressure on the chain compared to stock (40 tooth I think it was?). At least this is the guidance I got from the local bike shop. I never broke another chain after moving to the 32 tooth front sprocket.

All u have to do is buy the eagle chain made for ebikes . Luna does not provide u with it which is why it broke . Mine did the same too . Since purchasing new chain kmc it has held up to brutal torque abuse no problem

Ludicrous mode is just overkill for the bafang m600 series motors. I appreciate the option though.

Thanks for the vid. Looking forward to finding out how you resolved the chain issue and which chain you found to replace it with. I just got my Z1 yesterday and about to unbox today. I may replace the chain from the get go, especially if there is a better option out there. Subscribed!

I just got the X2 two day ago. The thing I want to do is: while in assist level 3 or 4 I would like the throttle to be full power. Right now the throttle is that same as the level of assist. I got this bike hoping that if I was going up a difficult climb and need some more help that the throttle would be there for me but in my using it for two days this is not the case. Bummer!

    • @LarryRichelli
      @LarryRichelli 2 года назад

@@dennisboyd1712 I think so but I also think the Z1 a more powerful motor but I am not sure. By the way, Luna just sent me a new battery for my X2 because the original one would turn off. That let me keep the old one so I am happy with two usable batteries!

I test rode a new giant stance with a yamaha pw2 motor 85 NM pedaled about 30 feet chain snapped can happen to any ebike.

This is the problem with powerful mid drives with bicycle components. The chain, derailer etc. can’t handle the torque. I stick with direct drive hub motors and push higher current. Never have to worry about snapping a chain. But yeah that being said that Luna bike looks really nice! I like mid drive motors they just need stronger chains and gears. Less than a motorcycle more than a bicycle.

There are ebike specific chains available if a gear select module is also fitted it stops the torque while changing gears which eliminates snapped chains.

@jeebus the Bafang m620 / G510 is easy to program with a programming cable (unlike the other Bafang motors). Would changing the settings help? Possibly have it ramp up to full power with a shallower curve or something?

@jeebus Other Z1 owners (who are waiting for their recently ordered bikes to arrive) are wondering which chain they should buy as a backup. Would you let us know what chain it shipped with and any alternative chains you think can be substituted?

Dope bike can you show it with out riding it out side so we can see color, they make e bike chains more tough, I
    Run a 1000w m620 never broke a chain 1600 watt should be a beast .

My chain broke within 5 minutes of riding it too. Luna recommended I get a KMC chain, everything is out of stock locally and online. Sucks I can't even ride my new bike yet.

KMC chain and 32 tooth sprocket will help you avoid this. At least it did for me on my x1. You will lose some top end speed with this mod though.

I wonder if a lekkie chain ring would help. I have a BBS02 pushing 1250 watts and never snapped a chain yet. I guess I'm overdue. I did have my chain ring line dialed in too by modifying a bbshd lekkie ring to fit a bbs02 motor. It used to slip like crazy under torque but never snapped. I live in the mountains too.
As a side tip before a big hill you should get off your bike pull up the rear wheel off the ground and hit the throttle and shift to the biggest rear cog. THEN go up the hill.
I can guaranteed a lot of chain breaks are from using the wrong gear up a hill. You don't want to hard shift up a hill using power.

Over 8,000 miles on my BBSHD using KMC X10 and E10 chains thru DEEP sand and steep narly terrain. Never broke a KMC, and I have tried many brands. I usually get 2,000 miles before replacing. I always carry a spare chain but never needed. And I use 46t Lekkie in front with 48t cassette in rear, always always always in lowest gear on the tough stuff. I'm planning on getting Z1 on the next restock, and getting rid of that crappy sram chain before first ride.

This bike needs a bigger battery, 840wh is too low, needs to be 1000+.
