There are many similar projects in Woodglut's plans.

  • @asifaliasim1

The first half of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

Watching the video and reading the comments about workmanship, tools, techniques and safety all done somewhere else other than America or Europe, I have to smile as I look at an old iconic picture on my wall of American steel workers sitting on frame work hundreds of feet in the air having a sandwich and cigarette. Different places, different times, I'm sure the stairs when finished looked as good as any stairs in that country.

Bravo; you create in your own world a awesome stairs and just with things you have around you, and creativity. As a 40 years experience in construction in north America I strongly congratulate you. The fusion you do with concrete to wood is brilliant;probably tar. I see so many workers here with there boots scratching the cheep wood surface, and you you take care of each movement yo do. etc. bravo. We see that will last for ever. You are humble, and real artist.

Starting out the vid with a mispoured concrete step that some random guy starts gnawing at the unlevel portion with a sawzall.
Been nice to see a gadget that held anything level for smoothing it out perfectly instead of gnawing at it like a concrete rat.
Or just stained the steps and trimmed them with wood for looks and metal for where the wear usually is.
    The thumbnail is a lie.
It looked like the stairs we're going to fold up to expose storage area. But no, they're concrete, so zero storage, except for maybe a razer blade for protection on a dark night when the moon is dark and you're accosted while climbing your particle board with laminate steps that will with humidity peel up after a while.
The totally innovative way he uses a small broom and scoop pan to sweep up debris makes me want to go out right this minute and buy those two innovative tools. Friggin amazing 😵
Gotta love two toned bannisters though.
    This would be better named.
Guy puts in wooden steps over concrete steps.
Didn't see one innovative tool used or technique.
Not saying the guy can't build steps.
But the second step he put in, was riding on the backboard of the first step. I would like to go back to see those steps now. You know a kind of follow up.

I liked this video. Chances are the haters commenting with their sliding compound miter saws and tread jigs would not be able to last in this country if asked to make a living installing stairs. The end product looked amazing from what could be seen in the video. I did notice the 40tooth saw blade and wondered why the wood was not splitting all over the edges. I like the 80tooth myself. Maybe the humidity in this country and the type of wood (mahogany or ipe) kept it from splintering on the edges.

Amazing demonstration of ignorance of the materials being used. I would like to hear from the owner of previous jobs this guy worked and listen to the amazing failures in quality that you never hear about: treads that warp, check and rot; stairs that someone else deals with maintaining and ultimately replacing while this guy blunders on building more problems in other homes and contributing to a disdain for local craftspeople who spend more time mastering power tools than mastering methods of construction.

If concrete chips that easily you have a problem. Improper use of a chop saw. I know a guy that almost lost a finger when he picked up the board to finish the cut and the blade kicked the board sidewise.

i just love reading comments from tradesmen here in the U.S. that have obviously never been out of the country. I have seen buildings and structures in parts of the world that were built by hand out of basically mud and straw over a thousand years ago but you're gonna tell these guys that unless you follow code (our code) your shit is gonna rot, or fail or whatever. Meanwhile here in the states we have whole communties of homes falling apart that were all built with high tech materials & techniques and to strict adherance to code. smh
    BTW I'm a 30 year commercial & residential carpenter.

Those quick with a negative comment, can you please add a link to a video that shows where you personally are capping concrete stairs with wood? I would love to see different techniques, particularly when you say that this man is such a "clown," as I love to learn. What ways are you aware of that would work better and are faster? This is the first time I am seeing this, and I have been to Thailand and other tropical environments (Bali and such) quite a bit, so this is impressive to see how to safely get this look -- which can of course be easily traded out overnight when termites/mold DO eat through this wood. There are 4 fairly long spikes that are holding the tread, no less. I have only basic carpentry skills, as I am an electrician who works alongside skilled carpenters and other tradesman and love to learn from them. I am an electrician, myself.
