pastry student here.
I think the actual translation error was that they wanted you to use gum paste instead of sugar paste.
Sugar paste IS fondant, and unlike gum paste fondant does not harden.
In order to make gum paste you add 1-2 tsp of tylose powder per lb of fondant and let it sit for a bit.
Neither do well with moisture 😬 and they get soggy/tacky if you try and paint them.
To paint fondant AND gum paste before they’re rolled out you gotta use gloves and knead gel color into it
To paint fondant after it’s rolled out mix vodka and gel food coloring since the alcohol evaporates fairly quickly and then paint on top.
To paint gum paste once it’s hardened most just use edible dust coloring and/or luster dust (not necessarily edible)
Appreciate the knowledge that I now know.
Despite the fact that those pranks were terrible, I think he was quite successful in his mission to make his entire family believe he's insane.

@@rachelleredd8803 starch is the tangy thing in potatoes and corn, makes the food more firm. Basically, it modifies the food in some way - a bit of texture, a bit if taste, how it cooks. And flour - made from wheat, or rye, generally, stuff your also make bread of. It's not a filler, it's a main thing.
If the receipe asked, you could make something without starch, but not without flour. It tends to be the main ingredient.

The funniest part of this video isn't him making fun of the pranks, but the fact that he doesn't have any idea what's in his kitchen as if he's never been in there before.
I mean, it's not his house. It's his parents' house. At this point, he was living with his parents still, so I guess it makes sense.
Edit: Let me clarify my statement. He and Laura just moved back into his parents' place while they were looking for a new place to live. That is what I meant by still living with his parents. I did NOT phrase that clearly.

There is starch in the flour. But it contains some more stuff. 😅
So it works in certain circumstances perfectly as a substitute for starch (e.g. binding sauces etc.) since it contains it, but not in every situation. 👍🏼

I enjoyed watching the clock in the background. You're very efficient while filming.
The video started buffering right as Danny gave the “icecream cone” to his dad, so it looked like his dad and Danny were just spending almost half a minute staring motionless into this lightbulb together until I realized it was buffering

They did NOT mean flour. For Fondant, you use powdered sugar or a special starch that doesn't klump. With flour, it just becomes a big mess😂

It's incredibly funny being a regular viewer of How to Cook That with her professional level baking skills and food science degree testing out weird food hacks and then coming over here to a guy my age who doesn't know how to do anything in the kitchen yet. Very glad you stuck to relatively safe hacks to try (aside from eating uncooked flour).

So I rewatched this and it answered a long standing strange question I’ve had for months. About 3 months ago my Alexa randomly reminded me not to be a chef. I was very confused and just realized now that the reminder was put in by Danny during this episode.
