How to Select Pallets for Any Pallet Project

  • Are pallets safe to use in gardens? What about inside my home for other projects? What are all those symbols on the pallets? These are just a few of the questions I often get when I post any pallet projects or related videos and so I thought I would go through some of the things I do when selecting pallets. I am not the all knowing resource for pallet wood but I have learned a few things over the years I have used pallets. Below are some other resources that I often reference that explain some of the markings further and give some other opinions on pallet wood and it's safeness.

    You're given more useful information about pallets than all the other videos about pallets. Thanks for helping me not to poison myself with poison pallet wood for a raised bed garden ! Imagine using poisonous pallets to build a raised bed garden...with organic vegetables !! Thank you sir !! SAFETY FIRST !!!

    There is nothing you can't do with pallets. They are an great resource for the homesteader. Good advice on how to choose pallets.

    If you make something with the Monsanto pallet I would like to see it! :-)

    A little research will show that no matter what the pallet is marked with HT, MB or whatever has a strong possibility that it was treated with M B treatment, when a cargo container gets inspected if there is any thing that the inspector sees that may cause a problem with customs it is treated with the MB treatment. As the poison properties are completely dissipated when exposed to air or we would all be exposed to this poison from any thing being shipped from overseas. I have used all kinds of pallets and have yet to get sick.

    When you are looking for pallets how do you inspect for possible bugs?

    • @barnabyaprobert5159
      @barnabyaprobert5159 3 года назад +2

      Bugs love to hide under bark. No bark, very few if any bugs. I've burned pallets for 15+ years and have never found an infestation.

    Hi, I have pallets stamped SPIB (Southern Pine Inspection Bureau) HT (heat treated) but no IPPC (?) (the feather-looking symbol) stamped on it. Would you assume those are safe for use in attaching to a wall, to use as an accent wall in a living room..?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  5 лет назад +1

      Yes. That probably just means they were never used out of the country so did not need the ippc stamp

    Great vid except I saw one pallet in what looked like your keep pile that had monsonto on the side. Personally, there is nothing safe that comes from monsonto, especially around your garden.

    Any idea about pallets with red ends ? Like the one in your video with blue ends? I normally look for markings but I’ve one with red ends and no markings at all?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  5 лет назад +1

      The colored ends don't mean anything . There will be a stamp signifying if there has been any treatments to the pallets

    If you see a label on the wood pallet that has a code barkfree 219 9000 what does that mean.
