    Mmmm yeeess this is a GOOD one, guys. Great show formatting. Funny ads that I actually watched. Love both the creativity and the execution of the main idea, and the emphasis on how little money you need to achieve it. A lot of RUclips tutorials only pull off a pseudo-hollywood look, but the end result here looks like a theatrical film. This video is like a tasty little bowl of soup and I'm sipping it while it's FAR too hot. Thank you for burning my lips, Film Riot.

    Me watching the scene: "Hey! That's VC's Action Essentials Big Fire 03!" Kind of made me realize that there is an inherent issue with using VC's Action Essentials... They are used so much and so often that the assets become familiar and almost distracting at that point. That's a good problem for Video Copilot to have, but not so much for the filmmaker. I'm in NO WAY trashing VCAE, there is a reason why they're STILL used by everyone, just pointing out an observation that I had made while watching this. I've found the same with their sound effects pack, as well.

    Visually, it looked really good, but i felt like it would've felt more real if there were background actors just running through the scene, or add gunshots and people yelling all distorted and stuff. Josh seemed all alone on a battle field, and we know he can't win a war by himself!
    Edit: i wrote this before you said that it was done inside in the studio, lol

  • @BasicShapes
    @BasicShapes 5 лет назад

    The war shots are EXCELLENT. The only thing I can really see it benefitting from is some face paint/makeup in addition to all the dirt. Maybe some mud on the face. There are some angles where his face literally looks CLEAN, except for some perfect little clumps of topsoil lol. But he's gotta look like he hasn't showered in days. Then I would add a couple people running back and forth between the actor and fire, which will just look like nameless silhouettes to the viewer, but will add action and tension to the scene. Maybe have someone fall to the ground. Lastly, throw some dirt around between the actor and the camera. Or smoke. Just for that last bit of polish to make the scene really look like a smoldering war zone. I think those are the only things preventing this from looking identical to a $100 million+ budget film. Everything else (lighting, etc) - spot on.

    Hey Ryan really nice scene. But I've got a question since I've got the BMP4K too. How do you do the workflo if you shoot in braw? I'm still deciding if I should go all Davinci or back between PR and AE and Davinci.
    Thanks

    • @michaelharley619
      @michaelharley619 5 лет назад +1

      I have this exact question

    • @vitalbutinar
      @vitalbutinar 5 лет назад

      @@michaelharley619 I actually decided on a workflow. What I do is work in Davinci. If there's something I need to do in PR or AE I export it in the max. res and lowest compression (usually to an MXF) that I can to a format that PR or AF uses then work everything I need. But here's the kicker if I don't need to work on the full shot just need to add something I then export only the new stuff with alpha to a DNxHR or something and then re-import it into Davinci so that I can still take full advantage of the raw capabilities and do color grading separate. Worked fine but it is a tedious.
