Sure, they’re not metalcore in the way that Converge or Dillinger Escape plan are. They’re not as melodic as Killswitch Engage at their most popular. It really depends on the album cycle we’re talking, most of the early trivium stuff is thrashy, shogun is heavier than most their stuff, but the overall genre that describes them best is metalcore. I don’t like putting them in genres, but I’m sure you all know what I mean when I say metalcore.
Loved this podcast Heafy. It's funny you both started at the same age and went on from there. Also, I played Maiden for my school band and absolutely hated Maiden for years (we played Trooper), and it wasn't until I gave Seventh Son a listen that I actually started to love the band again.
Man, I loved the chat about A-HA in the beginning of this! I actually found it hard to believe that Matt didnt believe that they are from Norway. Their chart success in Europe went far far beyond Take on Me, and when I was growing up here in Ireland, A-Ha were always in the charts and the media. And as Matt said here, their more darker ballads are brilliant songs. "Manhattan Skyline", "Stay on these Roads" . They still can pack out arenas all over Europe and dont have to rely on Take on Me as their main headlining song. This whole video chat was brilliant. Everything from A-Ha to metal in less than the first 5 minutes. Awesome.
Emperor’s drummer, Faust, was convicted of murdering a man by stabbing him 37 times (and kicking him in the mead multiple times) yet served only 9 years in prison. What was Ihsahn’s thought process in deciding to have Faust re-join and tour with Emperor in 2014?
I love that both Ihsahn and Devin both say it seems like a conscious choice but they don’t think about it. They just create what they want.
Lection learned: don't give any one the power of your happiness. It's yours and no one should take it from you. Killer talk Matt!
Can you believe this guy wrote Inno a Satana when he was 16 years old! Mozart wrote the Requiem when he was 35!
Would love to see Mike Akerfeldt on here.
Absolutely fantastic talk! I've never seen Ihsahn so loose. You can tell Matthew is his friend.
Ihsahn is awesome, thanks for this talk
Frontman of the best black metal band and the frontman of the best metalcore band just having a good time, this is too much.
Never have been metalcore

Black Metal.
Done the time for the crime
Snake Eyes In principle yes but only 9 years for a brutal murder? Something not right there.
This was recreated in the lord of chaos film
@@frankymacf I think he explained it on Metalsucks podcast more or less.
I didn't get to watch the stream today
No entendí nada :v

Anthem's cover is utter crap! NIGHTSIDE'S cover is perfection.
