Happy 2025! My resolution is to post a lot more this year. Ranking the souls bosses again was a fun return to form, but I was a bit creatively constipated rehasing something I'd already done. I want to explore new ideas this year and pursue new passions in gaming - I hope you're up for that journey with me! I'll be releasing Elden Ring on Friday, January 17th to close out that series. In the meantime, if you're down to hang with us live, come visit twitch.tv/thedemodcracy.

@@theDeModcracy You should definitely finish Black Myth Wukong. There are two endgame bosses which I would put on the same level as Slave Knight Gael and Sword Saint Isshin. Also the soundtrack gets MUCH better as the game goes on.
@@AndrewAung1992 Isshin was undisputedly my favourite boss in gaming until I played Wukong. The last two boss fights in Wukong are unforgettable experiences that I will remember vividly for years to come. The majority of the game is relatively easy compared to the Soulsborne games but it is still considerably harder than most mainstream action games. Also, the secret final boss of Wukong is one of the hardest bosses I have ever fought and I would put him on par with Malenia or Consort Radahn from ER in terms of difficulty. However, he is WAY more fun than either of those fights.
2 hour limit is kinda limiting in my opinion. Some games like 9 Sols and Hollow Knight can be hindered from this as they have slower starts than a game like Plushie from the Sky where the game is over in that time. I feel a 2 hour minimum with no upper limit if you're really enjoying the game to see if it continues the trend might be better. It feels weird to call a game a masterpiece you've only seen 1/10th of
Completely agree. I feel this is especially silly when he lists downsides to a game, as some if not all of them may just be fixed in later parts of the game
Agree this type of video is ranking how good the game actually is instead of reviewing it as just a product. A lot of games have setups that are only realized at the end of the game.
It’s so he can refund the games after getting a taste of the game. Viewers will get a good gauge of what the game is like/if they’ll be interested in playing it in the 2 hours I feel. @shadow_4739 I agree with that idea of a short burst for the average player and Dmods sake, it just feels wrong to call a game a perfect or unredeemablely flawed within that time. I think his analysis this episode is great and spot on so this is mainly for the future to avoid "THIS GAME GETS GOOD AFTER 8 HOURS" comments
Yeah, a 2 hour limit is only really good for whether or not you've seen enough to want to pursue playing the game to it's end, not enough to rate the game. So much happens in Nine Sols and there are pivotal moments that seemingly renew the pace of the game (like Lady Ethereal being a big skill check similar to Sekiro's Genichiro)
Nine Sols true ending was one of the most emotional moments ive ever experienced in a video game. It is criminally underrated, I honestly think its better than Hollow Knight.
It was snubbed because TGA was very much trying to appeal to China this year, hence all the noms for Wukong despite it being the worst reviewed GotY nominee ever. Nine Sols was made in Taiwan, and the devs have been critical of China in the past. Might sound like a conspiracy theory, but it checks out that TGA wouldn’t nominate it.
I really don't get why 9 sols is so hyped. I tried to love it but there were so many annoying things like surprise bosses around the corner, long ways back to the bosses, no teleportation possiblity until far into the game and the deflecting system felt off. I dunno. I tried to love it so much
@JDLaney-zk4wb Yeah so we'll just ignore them removing votes from BMW and them being purposely mistranslated multiple times even after TGA. You're either straight up lying for no reason or you weren't paying attention at all. Even reviewers were attacking BMW and I know you know that because actual player reviews and journalist reviews are completely opposite of each other. Also the fact that wukong won literally evey other goty award it was in besides tga it's really not hard to see TGA was doing the opposite of appealing to china.
MediEval on PlayStation - Honestly one of my favorite games that I still go back and play and remember fondly from my childhood. It rewards exploration, has funny interactions, and isn't afraid to be a little bizarre. I'll never forget beating a boss and getting a... Chicken Drumstick as a weapon, never gets old.
I'm not sure if the 2 hour limit is a fair judgment to give a ranking. It works both ways: maybe the best/most polished parts is focused on the first hours and then later drags on or is more buggy. Or maybe the highlights is past the 2 hour mark and the first 2 hours focuses on plot and story
MO:Astray is a puzzle platformer with the unique gimmick of playing as a little slime so your movement is jumping and sticking to things. The game does a great job building on that fundamental mechanic with giving the player more tools and lots of changing environments and enemies to interact with. The game has boss battles that combined puzzles and combat that get increasingly better as the game goes on with the final stages having some of my favourite fights ever due to the buildup, scale, fantastic artwork, and amazing OSTs. Definitely worth checking out with this series as the game deserves more attention than it got due to poor marketing and imperfect translation.
I cannot understate enough how underrated Skul the hero slayer is. This is coming from a hardcore souls veteran with limited insight in the world of metrovanias and rouge-likes and Hollow Knight aside, this is the first ever game of this genre to captivate me. The combat variety with all the different skulls, items, abilities and inscriptions can be very overwhelming at first and admitedly apart from some really good fights the bosses aren't anything amazing but the chaotic combat which plays similar to dead shells but in a way slower pace, the beautifully pixelated artstyle and the unique elements really made it stood out for me. It follows all the basics of a good rogue like and despite having some visible flaws like a lack of intriguing story and the boss issues I mentioned earlier it's definitely a hidden gem worth playing. It might not be pushing for my favourite game of all time (strictly resided for souls games) but it was one hell of a ride,
Team Fortress 2. While many may still remember this game I still feel it never had quite the acclaim it deserves especially from modern audiences and never really gets brought up in the conversation for great action games. One of the most unique and entertaining multiplayer games that still holds up to this day.
I always recommend 3 games I really like when asked what games I think people might enjoy: Ender lilies: If you had to pick just one, Ender lilies sequel, ender magnolia is about to release, and it's much better than ender lilies, although lilies is still a great game. They're both metroidvania games with an atmosphere similar to and inspired by hollow knight. Cassette beasts: it's a turn based open world monster catching game inspired heavily by Pokémon. If you were to do this, I would recommend a turn based or exploration game video. Anima gate of memories the arcane edition: This is an exploration based hack and slash inspired by devil may cry and dark souls. It's a bundle of 2 games, Anima Gate of Memories, and its sequel, the nameless chronicles. There's a third game in the works, although it doesn't have a release date.
I'm already a fan of this new format! For potential themes for future videos: - games with a card/deck building aspect to their gameplay (e.g. Slay the Spire, Balatro etc) - games with a horror vibe/aesthetic or with a cutesy vibe/aesthetic etc etc - games from longer franchises to see how they evolved (in their first 2 hours). That could be Legend of Zelda, Assassin's Creed, Mortal Kombat and more. I feel like this theme can feel very different from others with its focus on one singular franchise
Cozy games If only because i do wanna hear how demod slowly go mad as he plays the sheer opposite of what he is used to And also mystias izakaya. Never get enough of that game
I LOVE this new series, and I'll be making use of your suggestions. Hollow Knight is one of my favourite games, and Nine Sols feels like a great spiritual successor - since it doesn't look like Silksong is EVER coming out....
Deadbolt is a great stealth action from the Risk of Rain devs that I hold close to my heart. It's short and sweet and has one if the best soundtracks I've heard in a game.
Happy to see the Nine Sols rank here. Been playing it recently and just got to the final boss (holy crap difficulty spike!). Also have to say the music and setting is very intriguing - being a mix of cyberpunk, Taoism, and asian mythology that isn't common among titles I've seen.
Furi is also a good game. Its a boss rush games. Their no enemies just bosses and you have to learn their patterns. Its a mix of bullet hell and pairirng hack and slash games. Alos, music is amazing
Hope you return to Nine Sols - it's phenomenal, and definitely worth doing a boss ranking video. A couple of the later game bosses (Lady Ethereal and the final boss) are among the best I've ever played, and on the true ending path, the final boss is one of the most difficult, too - took me about 7 hours over three nights to beat.
Your telling me Wukong, that has the second highest peak player count on steam, and had over 20 milli sales after less than 4 weeks of release is on a list of games you've never played 💀
@@amoeba9930 Why?! Sun Wukong is one of the coolest fictional characters ever and he inspired a lot of world famous characters that came after him (such as Goku, Aang, and Naruto)
I think you need to give games like black myth wukong more time than you did. You experienced so little and without a doubt I believe your opinion will change to rank it as an A tier or higher if you played to see what it has to offer. It also has some of the best boss fights in the past few years and I hope you see them all to rank the game's top bosses one day
Fantastic list, and there are at least two of these games I hadn't heard of that I hadn't heard of, which I definitely think I'll get in the future. As for new themes, there are a couple of genres I'd really love some new info on. One is that I am HURTING for a solid turn-based RPG that isn't too simple or easy, and the other is survival horror games. There are a ton of them, and a lot of them are hidden gems, but many others are hit or miss. So I'd love to see whether or not there are any I just haven't heard of.
Okay, you have given me such great recommendations in the past so my turn! Another Crab's Treasure - funniest Souls like I've played with a surprisingly compelling and emotional story, not sure if you played it or not Aragami 1 - really fun stealth ninja game but you die in one hit, more like a puzzle game Aragami 2 - really fun stealth ninja game but now with more combat and the ability to take a few hits Metal: Hellsinger - if Doom was a rhythm game Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice - I played the second one but the first game is better imo. The audio in this game really makes you feel like you're going insane. Serviceable combat that ties directly into its story telling extremely well Also, on one hand, I like the idea of you getting to try a bunch of different games in a short period. But making it a time limit on a game can cause you to miss out on what the main hook of the game can be for you. With Black Myth for example, Chapter 1 didn't really hook me, it was an interesting boss rush with some secrets, but not really getting into the exploration aspect at all. Chapter 2 blows the map wide open in comparison, with a large interconnected map with a ton of secrets, reasons to return to old areas for new interactions, optional quests and bosses, and much more. It's the problem a lot of early reviews of the game had, Chapter 1 isn't really representative of the whole game, it's unfair to call it a boss rush. There are still a lot of bosses, but it isn't as linear as Chapter 1 makes it seem. So I'm not sure how to loosen the 2 hour restriction that would help with this. If ultimately your goal is to make a list of games you eventually want to play, using your ranking as priorities, I think this is fine. But if you're checking the length of the game beforehand anyway, maybe scale your time with it accordingly? Just an idea.
In terms of more obscure action games, here's a few recommendations: Nine Nights: Wolf Killer- a wuxia-style take on Prince of Persia Gori: Cuddly Carnage- a spectacle fighter where you are an anthropomorphic kitten slicing up rabid unicorn toys with your sentient hoverboard. It's awesome. Axtech- Forgotten gods. A game about beating up colossal versions of Aztech deities in an alt-future Aztech Empire. You spend most of the game flying around the futuristic version of Tenochtitlan using your giant gauntlet, which is your primary weapon but also a jetpack. oh, and the game looks like Beyond Good and Evil, which is a plus in my book. For something a bit older, there's Ashes of Oahu, which is a 3rd person post-apoc far cry-like, set in Hawaii. The cool thing here is that you eventually get the ability to transform into various animals to traverse the island. I haven't played it beyond the demo, but Skystrider also seemed like a really neat 3rd persion action/platforming game.
Not sure if you have played it before or not, but you should definitely try What Remains of Edith Finch under the story/narrative genre. Probably one the best stories I have ever witnessed. Short, sweet and will leave you with more emotional moments than you originally anticipated.
nice idea for a video series. here are some games i would recommend for analysis: Endling - Extinction is Forever A Plague Tale Innocence & A Plague Tale Requiem Armored Core 6 - Fires of Rubicon Thief (2014) Back 4 Blood Little Nightmares Dishonored Series Beyond: Two Souls Lords of the Fallen (2023) Mad Max (2015) inFamous Games
Frostpunk - A super atmospheric strategy-meets-city builder that somehow manages to simultaneously appeal to casual gamers while being surprisingly challenging. Compelling concept with difficult moral choices and a narrative that comes through the gameplay rather than cinematics. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown - If you love Nine Sols and Hollow Knight, you need to play this. I'd personally argue it has the best gameplay out of all three. Level design and visual variety are spectacular from start to finish, bosses are a delight and surprising highlight, and enemy variety is not only comparable - possibly superior - to the other games, their individual design is much more compelling and consistent throughout the whole experience.
Some I can think of: Hellsinker Heroes of Might and Magic 3 OPUS Echo of Starsong Garou Mark of the Wolves Digital Devil Saga duology ZeroRanger Ar Tonelico 2 Lost Odeyssey Tales of the Abyss
Point and click adventure games with titles like Grim Fandango, Return of the Obra Dinn, The Case of the Golden Idol, Monkey Island 2, and Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars!
Metroidvanias deserve multiple lists to themselves, honestly. Two I submit for ranking that I have in my library are Haiku the Robot (a game that is not talked about nearly enough), and Moonlight Pulse, which has an *extremely* cool setting. Edit: Oh! And one I have on my wishlist is Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus.
SANABI is one of the best indie games i played & it only takes like 10 hours from start to finish. It's an amazing game. and thank you thedemodcracy for finding new ways to make your videos interesting & for make us a part of it
I got a game for you: CrossCode! It’s a 2D top-down Zelda-like where the main character, Lea, is tasked with exploring an in-universe MMO to recover her lost memories! The combat is surprisingly great, and there’s a big emphasis on puzzles that really scratch the brain! Also great characters, amazing bosses, tons of side content, and an incredible soundtrack! Definitely check this game out if you have the time!
You should play some Castlevania games, namely Super Castlevania IV, Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night. Also, SUPER looking forward to this series! This is right up my alley, even if I love your other videos too.
Try Bleak Faith: Forsaken. It’s a Souls-like with a blend of medieval and dystopian setting. Interested to hear what you think. The exploration of the world is very intriguing, and despite the game feeling a bit janky, I always find myself coming back to explore the huge interconnected world.
Nine sols is very underrated, although ill say it's best bosses are towards the middle and end of the game, the final boss in particular being a great final test of your parrying/combat skills by how aggressive they were.
I think giving more than 2 hours (ideally until it changes rank) to games that are in the S, A and B tier is the right call. For example, having recently finished Nine Sols, I don't think it is a 'S' tier game. 'A' for sure, but you wouldn't be able to reach this conclusion until you play through to the end where a lot of the basic problems from design decisions they have taken pop up to frustrate you.
Bro how did you not play wukong at release day?!! You are the boss ranking guy and this game is full of bosses!! Im sure once you finish the game you are going to give it an S!!
Absolutely not, dude half the bosses in that game are just mid or bad I can’t see how people rate it so highly. Had to force myself to finish the game after chapter 3 it got so bad
@@liamsherratt3618 You're just lying. There are a lot of cool bosses after the chapter 3. If you're saying the Yellow Loong or Erlang Shen are bad bosses, that's just pure BS.
@@YuriyVashurin I don’t recall fighting those bosses but it’s hard to remember when the games got 6 million forgettable bosses. I never did the true ending as it became an absolute chore to finish just once
@@abdelrahmanalshamsi9331 indeed it is, though I still can’t grasp how you find the game an s. It’s just not. Having 100 plus simple bosses that you first try most of em is not good 🤷♂️
I'm through chapter 4 of Black Myth: Wukong, and I'm loving it. I agree that it needs some more music in between the boss fights. It is a boss rush game, and because there's so many bosses a lot of them blend together in my memory. The only ones that stand out are the ones I get stuck on for a bit.
One theme I'd like to see explored in a future video are games where the story is primarily (if not entirely) delivered through gameplay. Games like The Last of Us are great and all, but their stories could easily be translated frame for frame into film or television to the same effect. Games like Shadow of the Colossus, however, are effective because of how they use the interactivity of video games to tell their story. Said stories could not be done in any other medium without significantly diminishing their impact or altering the intended vision. I think if we want to highlight the strengths of video games as a medium for storytelling, we should be praising more video games that embrace interactive storytelling, rather than those that (successfully or not) attempt to emulate cinema.
I'd recommend Nexomon or Nexomon Extinction! It's a turn based RPG that plays pretty much like a parody of Pokemon. The dialogue is highly entertaining, and there are 4th wall breaks scattered throughout that make fun of RPGs.
I'd love to see you look at games with a wide variety of gameplay styles within the single package. Games like UFO 50 or It Takes Two have a ton of different styles and gameplay variety but how well do they combine into a single package
I played Hollow Knight because of your video " Top 10 Best Soulslike Games " where you ranked it as number 1 best must play soulslike. To this day I have no words how upset I am for trusting you. Hollow Knight is excellent metroidvania but it is NOT a soulslike. I understand why others like it but it was not for me who enjoys soulslikes. I should have known better. I truy regret the time I spent on it. I watched this video now so I know what I should not buy. I was considering nine sols, as people called it Sekiro like, but since you ranked it S tier I know there is no chance I will play it even if it was free.
Some games I think more people should at least know about: Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim and its sequel, Majesty 2. The Surge 2 (hey, I think it has good ideas with the take-what-you-need loot system and the better boss weapons based on specific actions in the fight) Death's Gambit
I'd love to see you do Card games like Inscryption or Balatro. It'd also be cool to see traditional RPGs similar to your Skyrims or (one of my personal favorites) Kingdoms of Amalur: reckoning
Definitely agree on nine sols put 15 hours in so far, incredible game. As for wukong it doesn’t get any better. Turns into an absolute slog after the midpoint and I personally wouldn’t rate the game higher than a c
I would love to see an emotional narrative focus on one of these types of videos. Games like until then, omori, to the moon, spiritfarer, before your eyes, etc. Also I think for what your are doing 2 hours seems quite limited many games have weak beginnings only because they are setting up something great. Hollow knight for example has an extremely weak introduction in my opinion no movement options and the first areas are completely bleak and gray however once you get to greenpath its this sudden splash of color or getting to the climax and best area city of tears.
I understand why you're doing the 2 hour thing, but games like Black Myth in particular deserve a lot more of your time. That game gets absolutely ridiculous in all the right ways.
games you should test, because they are good but mosty never played : Prince of persia - the lost crown, Stray, Darksiders (no matter the number, but I will recommend the first and genesis, at least), and the ruined king, a league of legends story
Im gonna throw one my favorite games in the ring. An old school action RPG by Bioware (when they were actually good), Jade Empire. The combat is quite good for being dated and with so many different styles it can make for varied play styles to keep it interesting. Great NPCs and an incredibly interesting and well made story and a nice world all inspired by imperial age china. A great game that any action RPG fan should give a go.
Really hope you cover Laika Aged though blood…it’s a really fun unique Metroidvania but it’s pretty much been skipped over by everyone and left in the dust, which is not what it deserves at all
I don’t think this format works for large AAA games like black myth. You can’t play less than 5% of what a game has to offer and then put it in a box. Especially when in this case you barely made it out of the tutorial area. Black myth is really expansive and has many different environments from forests, deserts, and icy mountain tops. I could see this being fun for smaller indie games, but black myth is right up there (in my opinion) with games like god of war and given that you’re a huge fan of soulsborne and god of war and this hybridizes a lot from those two genres, you’re really doing yourself a disssevice with the two hour time limit and then rating it
I can't understand why black myth wukong is in this video. It set the record for most played on steam :D haha nine sols and corspe keeper are great though. Haven't played the other two.
Black Myth Wukong completely blew me away. I went into it thinking it was nothing more than a fun soulslike boss rush to kill some time on but it was honestly so much better than I expected. The storytelling was surprisingly poignant and tragic at times, the end chapter cinematics were absolutely breathtaking, and the final two endgame bosses easily put most of FromSoft’s boss catalogue to shame with how incredible they are. It’s one of the most memorable action games I have played in the last decade and I think it is a must play for any fan of Soulslikes or God of War style action games.
Sadly they worked so hard on boss variety and cutscenes and graphics but not on the actual combat, it gets boring 1/3 in because the combat legitimately does not change from the first 2 hours to 40 hours it’s annoying because it could have been so much better but it’s just mashing the one combo into heavy attack cloud step and freezing them every single encounter. You could say that combat can be similar in souls games if you’re using one weapon the whole time but at least they have different level design that isn’t just combat to make it feel varied which wukong does not have. Solid game but definitely feel disappointed by the combat, I know they will do better on another game though
@Jbswe There are certain bosses which force you to think outside the box with the combat though. Several bosses in the mid to late game can dodge your heavy attacks and are immune to the immobilize spell. The final two endgame bosses are the most extreme examples since one can dodge both your light and heavy attacks while the other can throw your immobilize spell back at you. I personally appreciated how the game established a relatively predictable combat loop for most of the boss encounters but then periodically subverts it in order to catch you off guard and truly test your mastery beyond the basic combat loop.
@Jbswe Literally every souls game has that problem too man, Ds3 has been my favorite game of all times next to a few others and I'll admit 90% of that game is press light attack and rolling. The souls games don't really have a lot of puzzles and level design past ds1 is mostly mid. It's not hard to say you prefer Dark souls over BMW I get it I do too mostly besides the bosses and combat but they do have a lot of the same problems and pretending one does while the other doesn't is just wrong.
@pastesir3025 I disagree with you on level design. Both Elden Ring and Bloodborne contain several levels that rival if not exceed any level in DS1. So saying that Souls games have mid level design past DS1 is not true at all.
@jameslough6329 I personally hate ER level design. I think it's the worst in the series and really hurts the game for me, I don't like most of the enemies in the game too and it's completely carried by the bosses for me. But the thing with level design in souls games is that it's again mostly just fighting enemies and a rare puzzle or Hazzard. Wukong pretty much has the same pacing and level design as ds3 just with more of an emphasis on secrets. But yeah BB does have good levels but imo ds1 and even ds2 (the good parts) are leagues above anything else fromsoft and game science have ever made level design wise.
Moonscars, Salt and Sanctuary and The Last Faith were probably my favorite games I played last year. I found Hollow Knight to be the most disappointing game I played last year, though that could be the hype effect.

I'm anticipating the ranking of the Black Myth: Wukong bosses.
It might not be pushing for my favourite game of all time (strictly resided for souls games) but it was one hell of a ride,
If we want to talk about underrated gems there is Gravity circuit, Sanabi, Crosscode, Crypt Custodian and Worldless
Sanabi is an absolute indie gem
Team Fortress 2. While many may still remember this game I still feel it never had quite the acclaim it deserves especially from modern audiences and never really gets brought up in the conversation for great action games. One of the most unique and entertaining multiplayer games that still holds up to this day.
I always recommend 3 games I really like when asked what games I think people might enjoy:
Ender lilies: If you had to pick just one, Ender lilies sequel, ender magnolia is about to release, and it's much better than ender lilies, although lilies is still a great game.
For potential themes for future videos:
- games with a card/deck building aspect to their gameplay (e.g. Slay the Spire, Balatro etc)
- games with a horror vibe/aesthetic or with a cutesy vibe/aesthetic etc etc
- games from longer franchises to see how they evolved (in their first 2 hours). That could be Legend of Zelda, Assassin's Creed, Mortal Kombat and more. I feel like this theme can feel very different from others with its focus on one singular franchise
I hope you check out Stellar Blade. It's an easy A-Tier, with only minor flubs in story and voice-acting.
Cozy games
If only because i do wanna hear how demod slowly go mad as he plays the sheer opposite of what he is used to
And also mystias izakaya. Never get enough of that game
I think you misunderstood the assignment?
@wobblywally-0 shhhh. I am playinh 4d chess right now
I LOVE this new series, and I'll be making use of your suggestions.
In Nine Sols, he’s been dead for 500 years, not a single year - it’s only been a year or so since he woke up.
The Yakuza series
Yakuza would be so fun, but 2 hours doesn't even scratch the surface of it. Would love to see him cover them at some point though!
Hell yeah
I’m loving it so far but 3’s next and I’m worried lmao
(Currently on Kiwami 2)
@CauzaaH Holy shit I'm ALSO on Kiwami 2! Just started last night!
@@TionsofCoffee2yea 2 hours would get him through the opening cutscene in any yakuza game lol
Hey Mr Mod, here's my contribution for your first video:
- Freelancer
- Future Cop: LAPD
- KOTOR
Looking forward to more of this!
I'm not interested in Wukong too. I just have no interest in Journey to West.
To be fair, Wukong's dev is a prick so I'm actively refusing to pick it up out of spite.
@@amoeba9930 Why?! Sun Wukong is one of the coolest fictional characters ever and he inspired a lot of world famous characters that came after him (such as Goku, Aang, and Naruto)
It's a trash game tbh.
@@sonofhades57 Did you believe those IGN BS articles or what? If so, that's not very smart, like at all
I think you need to give games like black myth wukong more time than you did.
Nine Sols is just so amazing, story, gameplay, art direction, soundtrack, outside of like 1 boss and 1 platforming section, absolutely loved it
Bloodless is like a classic 90's Megaman. It's hard, but not unfair. The soundtrack is appropriate for the immersion. I would give it a 9/10.
I like this idea alot, more of this please 🙏
You should do another best combat systems list, thats one of my favorite videos of yours, and a lot of games have come out since then.
Okay, you have given me such great recommendations in the past so my turn!
Another Crab's Treasure - funniest Souls like I've played with a surprisingly compelling and emotional story, not sure if you played it or not
Aragami 1 - really fun stealth ninja game but you die in one hit, more like a puzzle game
Aragami 2 - really fun stealth ninja game but now with more combat and the ability to take a few hits
Metal: Hellsinger - if Doom was a rhythm game
Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice - I played the second one but the first game is better imo. The audio in this game really makes you feel like you're going insane. Serviceable combat that ties directly into its story telling extremely well
Also, on one hand, I like the idea of you getting to try a bunch of different games in a short period.
In terms of more obscure action games, here's a few recommendations:
Nine Nights: Wolf Killer- a wuxia-style take on Prince of Persia
Gori: Cuddly Carnage- a spectacle fighter where you are an anthropomorphic kitten slicing up rabid unicorn toys with your sentient hoverboard.
Short, sweet and will leave you with more emotional moments than you originally anticipated.
nice idea for a video series. here are some games i would recommend for analysis:
Endling - Extinction is Forever
A Plague Tale Innocence & A Plague Tale Requiem
Armored Core 6 - Fires of Rubicon
Thief (2014)
Back 4 Blood
Little Nightmares
Dishonored Series
Beyond: Two Souls
Lords of the Fallen (2023)
Mad Max (2015)
inFamous Games
Some I can think of:
Hellsinker
Heroes of Might and Magic 3
OPUS Echo of Starsong
Garou Mark of the Wolves
Digital Devil Saga duology
ZeroRanger
Ar Tonelico 2
Lost Odeyssey
Tales of the Abyss
Point and click adventure games with titles like Grim Fandango, Return of the Obra Dinn, The Case of the Golden Idol, Monkey Island 2, and Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars!
Metroidvanias deserve multiple lists to themselves, honestly. Two I submit for ranking that I have in my library are Haiku the Robot (a game that is not talked about nearly enough), and Moonlight Pulse, which has an *extremely* cool setting.
Edit: Oh! And one I have on my wishlist is Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus.
I don't really know how to define the genre, but like neon white, speedrunners I guess, I just need more people to know about neon white
I have not played Neon White. But from what I gather Mirrors Edge would fit nicely into this list
SANABI is one of the best indie games i played & it only takes like 10 hours from start to finish. It's an amazing game. and thank you thedemodcracy for finding new ways to make your videos interesting & for make us a part of it
The Nier series is very underrated
Do lords of the fallen
Nine sols deserves its own boss ranking. If you like hollow knight, odds are you will love the game.
21:30 I’d be interested in seeing you do a tier list of video game franchises including Assassin’s Creed, Uncharted, Mass Effect, Persona, Souls, etc.
You should play some Castlevania games, namely Super Castlevania IV, Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night. Also, SUPER looking forward to this series! This is right up my alley, even if I love your other videos too.
I enjoyed this ranking, please do more
Please check out Momodora, Reverie Under the Moonlight!!!
Try Bleak Faith: Forsaken. It’s a Souls-like with a blend of medieval and dystopian setting. Interested to hear what you think. The exploration of the world is very intriguing, and despite the game feeling a bit janky, I always find myself coming back to explore the huge interconnected world.
Underrail is a phenomenal Fallout 2 x Metro, top down turn based RPG. One of the most immersive I’ve ever played, definitely deserves more love!
Nine sols is very underrated, although ill say it's best bosses are towards the middle and end of the game, the final boss in particular being a great final test of your parrying/combat skills by how aggressive they were.
I would like to see the game Tunic ranked. Two hours may not be enough to really understand the game but nonetheless it is worth highlighting
Management Game and/or Card Battlers.
Specifically I want you to try playing Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina, preferably in that order.
@ whatever dude!! Its your opinion 🤷🏻♂️
Having 100 plus simple bosses that you first try most of em is not good 🤷♂️
No way did you unlock fast travel in Nine Sols within 2 hours of play lol
But I fully agree with the S Tier ranking
I'm through chapter 4 of Black Myth: Wukong, and I'm loving it. I agree that it needs some more music in between the boss fights. It is a boss rush game, and because there's so many bosses a lot of them blend together in my memory. The only ones that stand out are the ones I get stuck on for a bit.
Hey Demod. I would recommend that you give Black Mesa a shot. It's one of the best remakes ever made. It's simply Half-Life but improved in every way
Nine sols was absolutely snubbed at the game awards for being made by a taiwanese developer that made fun of china in the past
1000xResist is maybe one of the best stories I've experienced. Not just in gaming, but in all media.
I'd recommend Nexomon or Nexomon Extinction! It's a turn based RPG that plays pretty much like a parody of Pokemon. The dialogue is highly entertaining, and there are 4th wall breaks scattered throughout that make fun of RPGs.
Coromon is really good too. Pocket monster games, is a fun genre.
I'd love to see you look at games with a wide variety of gameplay styles within the single package. Games like UFO 50 or It Takes Two have a ton of different styles and gameplay variety but how well do they combine into a single package
Corpse Keeper looks really cool and is also the only game I've never seen mentioned before.
Hmm Sifu, the monster hunter series, Skul, katana zero, and gunvolt, viewtiful Joe needs more fans, wonderful 101, mad world
Some games I think more people should at least know about:
Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim and its sequel, Majesty 2.
The Surge 2 (hey, I think it has good ideas with the take-what-you-need loot system and the better boss weapons based on specific actions in the fight)
Death's Gambit
I'd love to see you do Card games like Inscryption or Balatro. It'd also be cool to see traditional RPGs similar to your Skyrims or (one of my personal favorites) Kingdoms of Amalur: reckoning
The Last Faith is a Metroidvania that I can wholeheartedly recommend. I think it's A tier or B at worst.
Still hoping you cover Remnant 2 at some point. There’s so many good bosses in that game, and all the dlcs are out now
Definitely agree on nine sols put 15 hours in so far, incredible game. As for wukong it doesn’t get any better. Turns into an absolute slog after the midpoint and I personally wouldn’t rate the game higher than a c
I predict that you'll enjoy Nine Sols so much that you'll release a Nine Sols Bosses Ranked video just to talk about it more!
[SPOILER]
And we all know that Grandma Isshin is gonna be at the top
I cannot recommend nine sols enough. My top game of 2024
Psychonauts and Sly Cooper franchises would be great IMO. But those games are also short enough I think you could finish them in like 2 days per game.
Here is some interesting games to try out: Tiny Rogues, Antonblast, Diceomancer, Rabbit and Steel, Voidigo
Was not expecting to see Plushie on here. Anyways ender lilies is great and it's sequel is about to launch into full access
Subnautica and No Man's Sky are probably A-Tier, they're amazing games but there's one or two things that give me tourettes
games you should test, because they are good but mosty never played :
Prince of persia - the lost crown, Stray, Darksiders (no matter the number, but I will recommend the first and genesis, at least), and the ruined king, a league of legends story
I'd like to see your ranking of Roguelikes. And maybe one just talking about the Castlevania series.
How about Beat Em Ups? In my book, Fight'N Rage is an S-tier indie game from that genre.
Really hope you cover Laika Aged though blood…it’s a really fun unique Metroidvania but it’s pretty much been skipped over by everyone and left in the dust, which is not what it deserves at all
Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus is a very good & underrated Hollow Knight-like Metroidvania
I don’t think this format works for large AAA games like black myth. You can’t play less than 5% of what a game has to offer and then put it in a box. Especially when in this case you barely made it out of the tutorial area. Black myth is really expansive and has many different environments from forests, deserts, and icy mountain tops. I could see this being fun for smaller indie games, but black myth is right up there (in my opinion) with games like god of war and given that you’re a huge fan of soulsborne and god of war and this hybridizes a lot from those two genres, you’re really doing yourself a disssevice with the two hour time limit and then rating it
What's the name of the game at 11:43? It looks good
I can't understand why black myth wukong is in this video. It set the record for most played on steam :D haha
nine sols and corspe keeper are great though. Haven't played the other two.
Nine sols made me really introspective. It was so good.
If we get to pick games and they have to be on steam than I nominate The Wonderful 101.
Moonscars, Salt and Sanctuary and The Last Faith were probably my favorite games I played last year. I found Hollow Knight to be the most disappointing game I played last year, though that could be the hype effect.
Use 2 hours as a check if its interesting, and then play the full game if its good, that would really be a much better format
My favourite kind of videos. Thymesia is so underrated.
I recommend the metro series, maybe not S rank, but at least A 100%
Check out Mystic Heroes if you can. It was originally for the Gamecube and PS2, but it was the beat-em-up of my childhood.
