    Morse Record Stereos and electronics were low end items sold in the 60's and 70's. I bough mine at Kmart. It worked good and gave me many years of service.

    As possibly the only 13 year old who collects stuff from 1990s - 1940s I really want one of these.

      As someone who is 16 (probably started at 13), definitely keep collecting. I just got my first console, and it’s worth it! Folks are always nice to younger people trying to get into collecting but be careful you don’t get taken advantage of when it comes to pricing. Good luck!

    We had that same General Electric stereo. I remember that turn table and the radio. My dad bought that new in 1965 for 219.00. He was young and didn't have a lot of money, however, he should have been buying a Magnavox for about 500.00 they just were much better in every way, everyone else on our street had a Magnavox, Packard bell, RCA, Motorola some even had the one with the tv and the remote. One of my friends Even had a Fisher with a Garrad changer and a custom cabinet of their choice and yes, his dad was a doctor, so they had money like that, I was ashamed because the General Electric just didn't sound good. People would talk about how horrible the sound was compared to their stereo system. In those days it was about how long and how beautiful your stereo was and how rich the sound was.

    I loved those old console stereos! Growing up, we had a Morse(later named Electronic) console that had awesome bass, but they did have a problem with the loudness (volume) control getting "crusty" and whenever you turned it on, the crackling was horrendous. Morse was a radio company that started in the 1910's and by the late 70's the company changed their name to "Electronic", but I think they ceased production in the mid 80's.

      Yes you can’t beat the sound in those old units. And just about every one we see get the crusty volume if you don’t use it often.

    I got one a few years back off Craigslist for $35.00. Their grandparents never used the turntable and the turntable still has the shaped like a 45 instructions and shrink wrap on it . only the radio. No 8 track. Great shape except my cat got ahold of the twine speaker covers to scratch it's nails on. Managed to stop it before he could do it again now cover it with a blanket. I know where there is another one but much bigger at an apartment complex just hanging out in a hallway the tenants use as their junk mail table. Landlord won't give it up though because it's the junk mail table......

      Possibly you could offer to get him something that would suit his needs better than the console and make a trade. Assuming it has no other purpose or importance to him. God Bless
      And keep the kitties away from your good things. Mine destroyed my Mach III speaker grills and one woofer. It's been a decade. I am fixing them this year.

    Some information. The first unit is a mid grade solid state GE, probably late 60's. The second one is a mid grade solid state Motorola, also from the mid to late 60's and the last one is a Morse Electrophonic from the mid 70's. Out of the bunch, the Motorola probably sounds the best and is the one that's worth trying to get to fully working. The changer on the Motorola is made by Voice of Music and parts are readily avaialable for it. The GE changer was made in house and can be tricky for parts. The changer in the Electrophonic is BSR and it's junk. Look for a replacement, of which there's plenty on Ebay.
    As far as quality goes, the Motorola will be the best bet. Now for the bad news the Electrophonic's cabinet style is Danish Modern which is REALLY good, but the electronics are utter crap. The Danish Modern cabinet is the only thing it has going for it. If it works, then you got lucky, have someone clean the controls, decide on what you want to do with refinishing the cabinet, replace the changer, and go from there.
    When looking for a vintage stereo stay below 1966 because you want a tube model and mid 60's Solid State has issues on it's own Look for brands such as Packard Bell, Magnavox, Zenith, Curtis Mathis, Fischer, Motorola, to some extent, Silvertone but it depends on the model.

      The changer will need to have old grease cleaned out, then relubricated. The rubber drive wheel that makes the platter spin will need to resurfaced. It more than likely need a new cart and needle. Contact Gary at the voiceofmusic.com to for the rubber drive wheel, cart and needle.

    Could you do a video on how you cleaned the interior? I just picked up a new console and want to clean it up and bring it back to its former glory! I'm completely clueless where to start!!

    • @OurRoundaboutLife
      @OurRoundaboutLife  2 года назад

      The way we approached it was it was already in really bad shape. So we didn’t feel like we had anything to lose trying to clean it up even if we messed something up. We used murphys oil on the wood and laminate pieces and electronics cleaner on the electrical connections. Then I oiled the turntable.

    We have a 1940 Farnsworth B102 radio (Stands about 3.5 feet tall) It’s in mint condition we had a little rewiring and a few new tubes put in, and cleaned it up. We love playing it! We would love to find one of these beauties!

    • @Artcurus

      As a heads up, this unit must be FULLY serviced. These units have something called a capacitor, and they must be replaced. This is not negotiable, if a certain set of capacitors goes out it can take irreplaceable parts at the very least or worst case scenario, start a house fire by causing another part to overheat. It's imperative that you contact the person who serviced it and make sure this was done.

    • @JohnandCaraRetiredTravellers
      @JohnandCaraRetiredTravellers 3 года назад

      @@Artcurus if you are speaking of our Farnsworth we did have the capacitors changed as well as power cord.

    • @OurRoundaboutLife

      For us we used WD-40 to try to loosen things up. Unfortunately I never could get the record player working. The volume control knob and balance had a lot of static when moving the knobs but taking them off and cleaning and turning them up and down a lot helped correct that.

    • @Artcurus
      @Artcurus 6 месяцев назад

      Do not use WD40 unless you are going to come back and throughly clean the mechanism again to remove any residue. . I usually use 90% alcohol with q tips and brake cleaner, available in auto parts stores in spray can. Understand that you will have to partially disassemble the mechanism to properly lubricate. Take tons of pictures and be very neat and organized in your workspace. Old grease will often look like a sticky brown paste and it must be removed. Relubricate where you saw the brown paste with lithium grease. Use Deoxit Fader to clean the controls.
      The motor must be disassembled and old grease cleaned out. Use the brake cleaner first, cleaning the bearing out with QTips. Then come back with Turbine oil. Motor cleaning is imperative because it can actually stall.
      With the brake cleaner, use the red can, not green.
