- I've been talking about a power adder for the AWD stepside silverado for quite some time now, and the parts are finally here to start the conversion. I thought about installing a turbo on this Silverado, and also about a Procharger or Torquestrom, but at the end of the day I wanted the low RPM torque and to hear the whine of a roots style supercharger. We're using a Boost District LSA supercharger kit, and in this episode we go over all the parts I ordered and what you'll need to complete the installation. We're using a ZL1 lid, an LS9 fuel rail, the truck accessory drive and six rib pulley setup with a 2.55 upper. I'm not sure of the boost level that this will produce, but I really want to make close to 500 horsepower at the wheels when its all said and done.

what do you guys think long term? I'd love to put a little bigger LS underneath this blower, I think 408 is kinda the go-to, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
What about a 427 from TSP?? if you wanna do it, might as well do it right!!
I’d like to see you grab a 6l from the junk yard and build it up…would make for some excellent content.
I'm contemplating a 408 as well. I have an LQ4 that i was going to rebuild, but the stroker crank would be REALLY easy to put in while i have the block getting cleaned and honed...
If you go over 376/6.2 you will most likely need to port and/or go larger on the blower (2.3 or 2650). Why not just do 6.0/6.2 and fuel sys + flex and better cam ?
Also, I would go with CWA100 or 150 HX pump and a larger HX tank 1-2gal, this thing is going to get pretty hot. And as other member pointed out, reinforce the brick before you run it.
You can reach the limits of that blower with the 4.8. So if goin bigger motor gonna want a bigger blower too. Matt (sloppy) made almost 700 wheel i think? With an lsa on a 4.8 through a stick. Should easily be able to make 600 through you auto in the truck. 600 wheels is more than you’ll need for almost anything other than dedicated drag truck, which your big block truck will be. So I say stick with the 4.8. Let the blower fill the low end torque gap and spin it up to 7000ish. Should be fun.
I hardly ever see people build 4.8s, it would be cool to see a high revving supercharged one!
Where the hell are you man a there's 4.8 builds everywhere
Must not watch a lot of Sloppy Mechanics then lol
Alot 500-600hp blown 4.8 trucks just pt trucks or sloppy built ones omg high numbers
We don't mind watching, I would imagine that most of us can't afford what you are doing. We are living through you man.
Mo money mo powa no secret
I ran a B&M supercharger back in the mid 80's when they were still uncommon on the street. Sadly intercoolers were not available so we had to limit the compression to run on pump gas. I absolutely loved that engine.
I’ve been looking at this kit for so long. Glad you are videoing it all 🙏🏻
Love your builds and the quality you put into your work and videos. Love the way ugly truck sounds when that turbo is spooling up can't wait to see this one done and on dyno
Great looking hardware there, looking forward to seeing the progress. This truck will be a blast to drive in all kinds of weather
Here we go boyzzz !!! Can’t wait to see finished product!!! Awesome video!
My Daily is a 04' 2WD Tahoe with 4.56's and you convinced me to do a LSA supercharger on it ! I'm excited to keep up with this build !
This is awesome! I recently finished my build (Stroked LQ9 6.0L) in my 06 Silverado RCSB and I've been thinking about this exact upgrade. Looking forward to the next videos!
I like how you do stuff differently, most everyone has a turbo ls
Great setups but there are many different variations to make it fast!!
These videos have to be my favorite currently on RUclips 👍🏼
Lt you are a madman! I’ll be moving to Menan next month once I get out of the army, and red shift is about 15 minutes from my new house. I’ll have to stop by.
I’m excited about this next upgrade too! Great video LT!
You and me both!
I used the C5 vette filter/regulator and is mounted along the frame rails, 2' from the tank with just one line running to the engine bay. welded a bracket to the frame with a Riv-Nut.
A customer of mine is going to order the same kit from them. Going on an aluminum 5.3L in a 1970 International Scout on long travel suspension. I asked why he wanted that kind of setup - turns out he drives a 702 HP RAM TRX daily. It's going to be lit, I have already requested a drag race between his TRX and this Scout when I finish it.
Fricking sweet plans for this thing. That blower gives me the fizz
I was thinking of doing the kind of kit on my 07 quad cab sierra so i am very excited to see how it all comes together.
I just like you adding the super charger, and hope you cover any problems during installation. I have a 2011 chevy Silverado with only 30k on it and considering doing the same up grade on it. Looking forward to the next one video.
I remember watching you on truck tech , now you got your own RUclips that’s dope bro keep it up 💪🏼 this build is gonna be wild man
Love the LSA build! Definitely reinforce the brick, and get that blower ported with a 102 mm throttlebody. That right there will increase the boost level and help keep temps down because you don’t have to spin it as hard. I highly suggest relocating the battery and putting the air intake on the driver side.
I personally like your exhaust videos. Very informative
Glad you like them!
Been waiting forever for this!!
me too!
Can’t wait for this installation!!!!!!!!
Man I'm glad I found your video definitely thinking of going the same route and for the same reasons you did for my 5.3. I bet it's gonna be badass about to watch the follow up videos lol
YES!!! My turbo worked great but I want the LSA for my new setup. Can't wait to see more
can't wait for the first wide open throttle pull
Just got my LSA kit installed in my 01. It sits on an LQ9 with 243 heads so not an ideal application for boost but it’s a lot of fun even at 8.5lbs!
I am glad that I was one of the first subscription holders and I watch, share, and like as much as I can! Hopefully you are able to get to a 125 sub count by the end of the year. Great week to you all and be safe LT!
thanks for subscribing and for watching, its appreciated a ton!
Hell yeah 2 years later there's 150k I'm brand new
I cant wait to see what this truck will do I have the same truck only an 03 fleetside I have a 6.0 to go in it but the little 4.8 wont die excited to see how yours handles the blower
Just started buying parts To do ls3 heads, btr pds 1 cam, lsa with zl1 and flex fuel on my 6.0. Cannot wait!
Love the channel. Great video. Cant wait to see how it turns out.
Awesome Combo!
Thanks! 😁
Kick ass dude!! That's the way I'd go on that small displacement motor!!
I really can’t say I’ve ever seen an LSA 4.8, sounds like a very fun setup: quick-revving, short stroke V8 that’s already very accepting of boost. I’m a 5.3 guy but the 4.8 has its own advantages that make it almost a different motor in some ways. Love the builds, LT, you keep me motivated to continue my 05 CCSB Silverado street truck project I’ve been working on since high school
4.8-5.3, same bore different stroke, 5.3-6.0 same stroke different bore.
293, 325, 364.
@@shadowopsairman1583 yes I know, the 4.8 if I remember correctly has a 9mm shorter stroke than my 5.3
Check out sloppy mechanics. He did a g35 with a 4.8 and 6 speed. Made like 700 hp.
2.55 is 18% O/D on stock balancer. Ctsv lid actually flows better and has a larger brick compared to the zl1 but it’s pretty negligible on a street setup. Sick setup, will be super fun!
Look into reinforcing the brick on the lid before you’re all done too..
I forgot all about Rosh, at the Boost District down in LA. I need the kit for cable throttle body ‘99-‘14, for ‘02 LS2 S10 Extreme, extended cab. Thanks LT for reminding me how to and where to get me an LSA supercharger kit. I’m gonna buy the kit, and have my boys at Pac-Fab, in Gilroy, do the custom install. Thanks again!
Boost District is pretty much the go to for LSA it seems. I was checking them out as well, good to know they treated you well. The 4.8 has plenty, I wouldn't be to worried about going bigger just yet. They are stout (same block as the 5.3) and that shorter stroke can take some extra abuse. For an AWD setup, I think its pretty trick to use a 4.8.... my opinion..
Awesome project! You motivated me to choose the LSA for my 06 Sierra
it’s hard ti find detailed videos of these types of builds.
Glad I could help! I'll have full videos on the whole install process
I found your exhaust exploits fascinating...
i'd like to see a 408 stroker at some point. those have always made impressive numbers n/a so with that supercharger its a winning combo for sure
I would love to build one of those for this truck
@@LawrenceTolman I would be worried about having enough airflow for that many cubes. The little 1.9l LSA blower isn’t anemic, but for a 6.7 liter motor it’s a bit small. What are your thoughts?
@@LawrenceTolman
@Lawrence LT Tolman
I have the Lokar bracket from Motion raceworks. I recommend the Lokar style cable bracket. I bought the GM and the part of bracket the cable attaches to does not work, I used my old adapter from Glenn’s auto performance with Lokar base. You will need longer throttle cable, approximately 42”, mine is from an s-10.
It does not interfere with the fuel rail you can mount bracket under the rail.
@@TT.357 These days its smarter to get a harrop, kong, or matheson 2650 LSA style blower to go atop a 400CI or larger LS. Those blowers fix all the issues of the 1.9 LSA.
Can’t wait to see and hear it rip!
oh I'm so excited for this!! I was hoping for a LSA supercharger 😀
This video is Perfect timing!
I'm looking at engine swap options for my 88 OBS reg cab. Since i want to make it daily drivable again, I've been thinking of a smaller ls like a 4.8 for the best fuel milage I can get (versus a 5.3, 6.0, or 6.2). I wonder how much a turbo hurts mpg's if driven normally and kept out of boost..
You are right ahead of me on my 05 tahoe, 408 lq4 stroker, 4l80e & awd swap. 4.30 rear gears with Yukon(brand) limited slip with matching 4.30 front gears. 2/3 drop. 285 50 20 tires on 20x9 black 7 spoke KMC wheels. Wilwood 6 piston 16" front brakes, Viking Performance front double adjustable coilovers removing the torsion bar front suspension, eibach front & rear sway bars, sparco chrono large racing front seats.
The awd 4l80e swap is being done same time as the 408. Next is Huron S480 turbo.
I'm a big fan of the 408 idea. You could build it based off of an L96 or an LY6. They already come with square port heads, and work pretty good as they come. Trick is finding one. The rest of the parts can be ordered.
I think leave the 4.8 for now as is, unless you need something to do while waiting for ugly truck money/parts. If so.. then change out 4.8 to do a junkyard rebuild gen 3 6.0 with the same topend setup. Do the rebuilding in like 8 or 10 parts showing the dos and don'ts.. That would be fun! Also, never think the exhaust stuff was too much... That is just real life. I did the same with mine and am too embarrassed to say how much cost of parts/my labor to get it right. ( I literally had to buy another truck to use the parts leftover) But now it is what I wanted and so satisfying when I get the comments that it sounds just right. You are showing what it takes to get it the way you want. Thx.
Step side bed 😍 dream truck wish I had one to take to school
Sweet sweet boost 👌🏼
The air filter box spot makes a perfect battery relocation spot once air box is removed its already flat and about the same size as a battery tray
Good luck great content looking foreword to more videos man
Dude that is a badass built! 👍
Thanks! 👍
To be honest i very much enjoy the exhaust stuff. Can't speak for everyone, but that's my fun stuff. I extremely enjoy doing exhaust work.
I love the whine of a root style super charger I'm wanting to put a Whipple on 2020 Durango rt but unfortunately it takes money 💰 something I'm shy of. On yours though most definitely a 408 wound be the way to go all wheel drive and 4.30 gears the fun is unlimited but for now let's see what you can do with this 4.8 what ever you decide can't wait to see it. As always be safe 👍
🤙🏻🍕YES!!!! This is what I’m saving up right now to do to my 4.8 Silverado. 🤙🏻🍕
I've wanted to see a 4.8 to 383 stroker conversion and I think you would do a great job with the videos for that👀
Just saying
Been in the middle of this same thing for a while now glad but in an OBS been trying to get it done and raise kids so its taken me a lot longer. Every body told me I was crazy about trying to do a 4” single exhaust but I knew from a long time ago
The 07 and newer chevys had the battery in the back corner under the bracket....that battery tray may be a idea, or set it where filter is so battery cables be just as simple to set up as well
I just did the same thing I put a whipple on my 2003 5.3 extended cab with RPM transmission 3000 stall and a Eaton trutrac next flex fuel sensor and a tube.
Im one of the few that says leave it alone. Smaller cylinder volume fills faster. I say get a cam that let it rev it to 6500-6750rpm get a 3500rpm stall & 10-12 psi put you at 500 awhp. High to mid 11s on good tires.
So the build really hits home with me I have a 5-3 thinking about putting the LSA on it and don't think you need a 408 I think it's going to be a blast
A roots style blower will make about the same power no matter what engine is below it as long as the pulleys are the same size. Kind of like a turbo. A 500hp turbos is 500 hp on a 5.7 and a 7.4. As the rotors spin a finite amount of air moves through it. A smaller motor will see more boost, but the hp will be the same.
Looks great! Let’s getter done! In a perfect world I think I’d switch to Mast small bore rec port heads instead of the adapter plates, but there are always compromises. Looking forward to seeing the results.
I think long term I'll probably replace the 4.8 with something larger, so when that comes I'll put good rectangle heads on it
@@LawrenceTolman weve made over 1000hp with adapters, theres no need to go to square port heads with boost
Hey Lawrence Great vid.
How much does a package like that set you back?
The motion race works bracket will work just have to change the throttle cable to a longer one
I have 4 6.0 engines a 4.8 block for mockup and a running 5.3 in my truck
One 6.0 boost ready sbe
Cam, springs , headstuds and 80lb Snakeater injectors on a ported Dorman truck intake
Luckily i keep gettin 6.0s tossed my way
Holley sells a throttle cable bracket that bolts to the throttle body bolt holes
Part number 20-148
I’m using it on my lsa swapped Volvo works good!
Great video. Nice engine
I live in Vegas, and have not been able to go to an LS Fest. Would love to make it this year, and see how this truck performs in our hot/dry weather in person. Hope you get it all buttoned up LT!
well, I at least got my registration done, so now all I gotta do is finish the truck
So I have a 6.0 and eventually I will do lsa then forged 408 lsa.. I love the supercharger sound.. I had a gtp and loved it. Turbos are cool but nothing like a supercharger.. to the tb I think you should get a 92 or 102 now bc your going to have to buy a 3bolt to 4 bolt adapter anyway might as well get bigger tb. I think the 78 will be a choke point and you can get a cheap ebay one that will work great
Good video. Be careful with smaller pulleys- that thing will make a ton of boost on the 4.8
I’ve been on the fence about upgrading my 5.3 in my 72 c10 to a 6.0 or doing an LSA. For now I settled on a BTR truck Norris cam. Following this build is going to make me want to boost my 5.3!
Do you follow sloppy mechanics ?
@@mcfero1 I do not.
@@jessethompson1545 Cheak that page out.
Can’t wait !!!!
What was your reasons for going lsa vs like a Magnuson (or comparable aftermarket root style) from research believe easer just bolt on and key the balancer. Think comes out cheaper as well?
I've been waiting for a detailed how to for putting supercharger on cathedral heads. Can't wait
adapter plates, and bolt it down. its pretty easy
I would ♥ to see you adapt a LSA supercharger to the big block. A Kong 2650 on an iron headed Gen 6 467 from Mark Jones at VortecPro under a stock hooded Monte Carlo or Caprice would be sick. Nowadays anything is possible with modern CNC and 3D design/ printing/ prototyping.
I have a 4.8 extended cab 2000 Silverado and I would love to supercharge it
awesome going to be alot of fun..
“I know you guys hate seeing so many videos of me welding exhaust” lol those are my favorite videos
Hell yeah bro 🔥🔥🔥 those CTS-V’s🤢🔥😍
That is one sexy LSA super charger!
The roots style supercharger makes sense on a GM V8. If I were to LS swap a vehicle, that’s probably the way I’d go to retain the factory reliability for a street car.
In a race car? No way. Turbo all the way.
I prefer Turbos for daily as well. Allows me to cruise in my truck nicely and less noise which is great.
You could update the truck to DBW and use the gen4 throttle body. Alternatively, you'll need an adapter plate from 3 bolt to 4 bolt. (I have one kicking around at the shop)
LT - Motion Raceworks sells a bolt on bracket for your TB cable.
Thanks LT
Love the build and I'm excited to see this install of the LSA! Definitely would love to go the same route of LSA from Boost District in one of my projects.
That being said what are you going to do with that intake tube from Airaid intake tube. I'd be interested in buying it if you're planning on selling. I've been looking for one since the pandemic started and EVERYWHERE is sold out!!
send me an email to tolmanperformance@gmail.com, I'll sell it to ya for sure
I cant wait to see how this turns out AWD. The FIC injectors are key to making the fuel delivery system tunable. Most people do not understand the huge difference in flow rates in stock injectors and this is nightmare to tune. FIC tests them to ensure they have a consistent delivery through the entire rpm range.
Yes I was at 14lbs on my 370” with factory lsa injectors, when I checked the data logs the duty cycle was at 130%…..I immediately ordered a set of fic850cc injectors……what a difference
1. I live up is West Valley. Would be cool if you did a meet with some of your subscribers this spring.
2. I have a 2011 Yukon XL 2500 I want to do this as well as i tow a good amount, so I am interested in how this goes.
Hello, do you have the demotions of the heat exchanger?
Get a 10% OD crank pulley before going smaller on the blower pulley, much better and no belt slip issues.
A 6.0 would be awesome!!
What did you do for the throttle cable bracket thinking about using this supercharger on my truck
Oh baby this is gonna be epic I can't wait that baby is gonna be so peppy and responsive after no lag at all all go I think it's gonna wake up that leggy low end cause even w no boost that 4.8 rips once it's spun up a little. That supercharger should be ideal for a snappy low end I'm very curious as I'd love to boost my L33 I seen one in a c10 done by blueprint w a whipple I belive but was about 1100 hp but instantly lit up and tore ass
Does the lsa have a sound dampener plate inside like the lt4?
👍 sweet
On the Corvette style regulator, I’ve had issues with 2 AC Delco units supplying too much fuel pressure 1 at 75 to 80psi, the 2nd at 85 to 90 psi. This is with a Walbro 255lph pump in my ls swapped 72 GMC. The previous regulator filter held 55psi but dropped pressure after turning off the pump, almost an instant drop. I’m going Aeromotive pressure regulator.
Agreed. The vette regulator works well with a stock pump. But any time you put a bigger pump on, it’ll overpower the vette regulator’s return side.
good to hear, I had ordered an aeromotive regulator so I feel good about that
stock upper pulley is 3 inch so a 2.55 pulley would be a big bump so you might want to rethink about changing to go to a 2.4
I’m new to working on cars and want to put a camshaft in my Tahoe. How hard is a cam swap in the LS engines?
Good Lookin Parts ;)
Is it ring gaped any rods and could you have used a line to the filter regulater and you have a filter in line just a question love your build
yes, I did gap the rings
I’m 5.3 swapping my 79 Wagoneer and would love to have an LSA on top!
that would be a blast!
Faint wait to see what this turns out like. I want to see the 408 personally
