I appreciate the open and honest reflection from Kristaps. I like him, and while things didn’t work out for him in Dallas, I don’t hold it against him. It’s hard to when you see how far he’s come along, both as a player and a person. And seeing him relatively healthy and putting up great numbers, first in Washington and now in a winning culture in Boston, really makes me happy, especially since I’ve been a fan of his since his days in New York.

And then Luka made that enormous leap in his second season that no one expected, and maybe it caught Porzingis off guard a bit too because at that point, Luka was the clear number 1, rather than them being 1A and 1B.
Kristaps had that one terrible playoffs while Luka was playing out of his mind, and the slander went hard. I think it was 2021? Someone said “Luka+Porzingis is like Kobe and Shaq except Luka is Kobe and Shaq” 💀

Respect. He was trying his hardest to explain but in a way that didn’t cause any overreactions. You can tell he’s moved past and blocked everything out
It was more on KP to try to work his way up from injury. He thought he was going to be 1B to Luka’s 1A or even the first option over him. And he probably didn’t expect Luka to take the leap that he did from rookie to sophmore year. Luka literally went from potential star to superstar from his rookie to sophomore year.

I recall watching porIngus and still being a fan, felt like he didn't have a great game, could of been so much better with things here and there. Looked at the stats and he had 30 and i was like, damn he didn't even have a great game and he has 30, it easily could of been 40-45. Guy got way too undervalued post injury. This version of him is so lethal.
The difference between KP's and Luka's interviews in the postures... JJ actually opens up and seems natural in this one, in the Luka's interviews he looks as if any kind of a wrong facial muscle move could upset the interviewee...
I really wanted Luka and KP to work out sooo bad, but even KP has acknowledged that he’s happy to be the 3rd/4th option on a team like he is with the Celtics, which good for him, but we needed him to be the 2nd option in Dallas and he wasn’t able to live up to it most of the time(injuries did impact that too)…for those that disagree, please tell me you didn’t watch the mavs game then…countless times he’d have a small guard posted up, and he’d shoot fadeaway jumpers as a 7’3 big man ☹️
@@JC-to5by that or even like I remember him having Rajon Rondo on the elbow, and he’d shoot a turnaround fadeaway instead of bullying him to the basket
He has to settle to being the 3rd/4th option now that his reputation had fallen off after being traded to the Wizards. Seeing how he played today, I think he would’ve enjoyed being higher up in the call sheet. It was just his chemistry with Luka that wasn’t working and the role the coaching staff wanted him to play.
As a Mavs fan, it was mostly on Carlisle. He either didn’t want to utilize KP or didn’t know how to use KP. He was used as a catch and shoot 3 point shooter or he was given the ball way too much in the post where at that point of his career, he was poor in it and even struggled against smaller wings. He was still great and defensively he was good for the most part (when he was getting bullied by guards) but Luka-KP never reached the level that it could have unfortunately. I don’t think it helps that during the 2021 Clippers series he was out clubbing when he wasn’t performing well. Glad to see him in a much better place where he’s being properly utilized and is doing so as the 3rd option compared to as the 2nd option. It’s all love from Mavs fans to KP
Luka just said I’m the Bird of this generation and you are the sidekick. He didn’t like that and it’s understandable they’re all grown men. Now KP sees he ain’t a 1 he’s a 2-3 and that’s fine.
It’s interesting to hear how is accent sounds much more American than it did in the beginning of his career it seems must Slavic players keep their heavy accent but it’s kinda different to hear him sound more American than any foreign euro player Ben Simmons is the only other player who have a super heavy accent but sounds American now
As a Mavs fan who still likes and believes KP, I think Mavs and KP just didn’t meet at the right time. The front office was in disarray and KP was really held down by those big injuries. Would’ve been a perfect match for Luka.
Lets be real KP is more mature now than Luka currently is. Luka has been handed the keys and probably never told no. I actually think most of his teammates are afraid to challenge him.
Porzingis was already an All-Star when he came in to the Mavs, but they’re still both young, him and Luka. Sometimes you’d feel the animosity between them whenever they’re in the court, and it was not fun at all. It’s fun to see Luka’s having a great season now with Kyrie and Porzingis with the Celtics. It may not worked out, but at least, they’ve learned some stuffs about themselves. Those realizations and reflections are important both for them, and for the team they’re playing for.
I love how jj goes besides the Heath. It’s all about the health imo. When kp was healthy, we were great and we were beating the clippers before he got hurt. He was just never healthy, it wasn’t about fit, he was never healthy. Otherwise they were good when he was healthy
imagine if all young guys, imcluding me when i was young, had the maturity to think like that. all that physical ability with the maturity and knowledge/wisdom. i would've been so much better.
Damn, he’s one of my favorite players after this interview, what a guy man. And they should’ve played him in the paint and not on the perimeter, that would’ve been all the difference
@@slimconfucius there’s also more to being in the paint than posting up people. Offensive rebounding, lob threat, inside finishing threat, and he can still score in the post
@@Brickwilliams He's not, but he's also not the same player as he was on the Mavericks, he played very passive which is why Rick used him differently. He was playing a bit scared, probably because he wasn't able to catch any breaks with injuries.
As a mavs fan I really liked KP when he was here, he was a little streaky at times and injured more than I liked, but great player, too bad it didn’t work, he seems to be doing great in Boston good for him
Facts: The KP Trade is still hunting us as we owe the Knicks a first round pick. KP's biggest issue in Dallas was not Luka, was not RC, he was injured a lot and so he was never able to get to his prime in Dallas. Besides that he dealt with some stuff in his private life. And that is why I don't regret the trade to Washington. The Unicorn Era got revived with Wemby and Chet. Jokic, Embiid and Giannis dominate the MVP Conversation. KP matured and is a very good versatile big at the Cs. Mavs also got their Center in DL II. Happy End for both sides. Btw: Everybody hyped the Mavs up for the trade at that time robbing the Knicks. In hindsight it was a terrible trade. Who would have thought 5 years ago that a 6ft Guard in Dallas on a shortened Rookie contract would be a future superstar at the Knicks and his name is Brunson? Mavs made so many mistakes in that season, giving Brunson a shorter Rookie Deal, dumping Harrison Barnes and trading for KP who at that time came of a serious knee injury.
It feels like Kristaps immaturity has hindered him in his career from truly utilizing his talent he displayed in his first few years, along with the injuries of course. It feels like he has become much more mature based on this conversation, however.

About time KP is here
I still remember that Wild and Crazy Guys skit that KP and Luka did awhile ago.🤣
Great interview, KP seems like a really nice bloke
I recall watching porIngus and still being a fan, felt like he didn't have a great game, could of been so much better with things here and there. Looked at the stats and he had 30 and i was like, damn he didn't even have a great game and he has 30, it easily could of been 40-45. Guy got way too undervalued post injury. This version of him is so lethal.
This man’s a CHAMP, ☘️✅💚🫡
Love this JJ! Can't wait for the full pod to drop! Now you need to invite Davis Bertans and you can talk about who's the better 3pt shooter haha
The difference between KP's and Luka's interviews in the postures... JJ actually opens up and seems natural in this one, in the Luka's interviews he looks as if any kind of a wrong facial muscle move could upset the interviewee...
I really wanted Luka and KP to work out sooo bad, but even KP has acknowledged that he’s happy to be the 3rd/4th option on a team like he is with the Celtics, which good for him, but we needed him to be the 2nd option in Dallas and he wasn’t able to live up to it most of the time(injuries did impact that too)…for those that disagree, please tell me you didn’t watch the mavs game then…countless times he’d have a small guard posted up, and he’d shoot fadeaway jumpers as a 7’3 big man ☹️
I still remember when KP was unable to move Reggie Jackson in the post during the playoffs...
@@JC-to5by that or even like I remember him having Rajon Rondo on the elbow, and he’d shoot a turnaround fadeaway instead of bullying him to the basket
Yes, it was always obvious that KP can't play 100% because of his injuries. When he played, he was skipping many games, very often every second game..
He has to settle to being the 3rd/4th option now that his reputation had fallen off after being traded to the Wizards. Seeing how he played today, I think he would’ve enjoyed being higher up in the call sheet. It was just his chemistry with Luka that wasn’t working and the role the coaching staff wanted him to play.
congrats JJ you are one of the best on the air
U can tell Porzingis is holding bck what not to say.
Facts.
That Luka dribbles the life out of the ball
We all know why it didn't work. The same thing happened with Brunson
@@ataydecharliewcf happened with Brunson
The guy was injured and couldn't post up shooting guards. He also disappeared in the playoffs. That's on him
"Pissing contest" is the addition to my vocabulary that I've been looking for. Thanks JJ.
If he sucks in the post thats on him. Hes 7ft 3. Learn it.
@@brendanhunter389no that’s not on him, different body types are a thing if you haven’t noticed.
no they are not. Also, they were the No 1 offense with Porzingis playing on the perimeter.
@@AngelPerez-dc7qoyou’re gonna lose 100% of the time if your 7’3 center can’t post up😂😂. Like cmon develop more skills.
Also, remember that Jalen Brunson did not flourish until Jason Kidd arrived.
It’s great to have seen him grow
Luka just said I’m the Bird of this generation and you are the sidekick. He didn’t like that and it’s understandable they’re all grown men. Now KP sees he ain’t a 1 he’s a 2-3 and that’s fine.
Great interview and very mature on KP.
His accent really be going in and out lol I like it
Another great interview from JJ
It’s interesting to hear how is accent sounds much more American than it did in the beginning of his career it seems must Slavic players keep their heavy accent but it’s kinda different to hear him sound more American than any foreign euro player Ben Simmons is the only other player who have a super heavy accent but sounds American now
Love them both still will forever be a kp and luka fan
Tingus Pingus is a great player, love watching him play.
Really cool for JJ to go get Dolph Lundren as a guest on the pod!
As a Mavs fan who still likes and believes KP, I think Mavs and KP just didn’t meet at the right time. The front office was in disarray and KP was really held down by those big injuries. Would’ve been a perfect match for Luka.
can’t wait to watch the full pod

Ay!!! Respect to Porzingis. kept it real 💯
Interview the whole Celtics roster will ya😂😎
Best team gets the most attention, little bro
If you interesting he will get to you and even if you not… he will get to you. 😂
Props to the Unicorn for holding in his laugh when JJ thought twice twice about scratching his head , lol cant mess up the hair 😅😅😅
Lets be real KP is more mature now than Luka currently is. Luka has been handed the keys and probably never told no. I actually think most of his teammates are afraid to challenge him.
became a KP fan with his time in Washington - he had a lot of good games with the Wizards
As a Mavs fan I love kp his attitude is on point good luck fella
I love how jj goes besides the Heath. It’s all about the health imo. When kp was healthy, we were great and we were beating the clippers before he got hurt. He was just never healthy, it wasn’t about fit, he was never healthy. Otherwise they were good when he was healthy
yea, so good, kp standing in the corner watching luka dribble for 20 seconds
@@edijs4d That or they giving the ball to KP and he shooting bricks all game.
@@TorukMakto-i7p damn, he really got that many touches? Or are you on that good good rn?
@@edijs4dhe was talking about the 2020 series
@@edijs4dtrue. But hard to spend so many hours to plan around a player who's never healthy.
Holy crap almost at 1M! Been here since 30k absolutely amazing!!!!!!
KP was told to stand in the corner because he could not punish any of the clippers smaller players when they switched on to him.
I got a KP jersey right after he came to Dallas, I would LOVE to see him come back and play for us.
As a Dallas Fan I still love him and really miss him 🥺
Respect to KP
Lmao Kristaps is being very diplomatic but the it looks like the obvious answer is they didnt get along😂
imagine if all young guys, imcluding me when i was young, had the maturity to think like that. all that physical ability with the maturity and knowledge/wisdom. i would've been so much better.
Damn, he’s one of my favorite players after this interview, what a guy man. And they should’ve played him in the paint and not on the perimeter, that would’ve been all the difference
They tried, he struggled to post up against smaller guards...
@@slimconfucius he ain’t strugglin in Boston that’s for sure
@@slimconfucius there’s also more to being in the paint than posting up people. Offensive rebounding, lob threat, inside finishing threat, and he can still score in the post
@@Brickwilliams He's not, but he's also not the same player as he was on the Mavericks, he played very passive which is why Rick used him differently. He was playing a bit scared, probably because he wasn't able to catch any breaks with injuries.
@@slimconfucius scared?! Lol where'd that come from 😅🤦
Congrats on 1 million subscribers JJ.
I’m a say it for KP Luka ain’t pass me the damn ball enough
As a mavs fan I really liked KP when he was here, he was a little streaky at times and injured more than I liked, but great player, too bad it didn’t work, he seems to be doing great in Boston good for him
Casuals don’t know they beat the the clippers if porzingis isnt ejected in game 1 in the bubble and injured after
If my grandma have balls she would be my grandpa.
I always thought this...
And he got ejected for defending Luka!!
Love Porzingis!!! Hope he gets to win the title over Luka this year! ☘️☘️☘️☘️
Btw:
Everybody hyped the Mavs up for the trade at that time robbing the Knicks.
What a good podcast!!
TINGIS PINGIS THE GOAT!❤
Respect to KP, talkin' like a man.......admit some blame, don't sling shade, learn and grow
People forget that kristaps was hurt a lot. That was a big problem
THIS IS AMAZING WOW
It feels like Kristaps immaturity has hindered him in his career from truly utilizing his talent he displayed in his first few years, along with the injuries of course. It feels like he has become much more mature based on this conversation, however.
Man I wish we still had bro 😭
Say what you want but he is the most fluent English speaking euro by far
yup his English is impressive compared to other european players
Nowitzki
Or even better, listen to hockey player from LA - Anze Kopitar
So glad he had that great game one in the finals
