- Eh whaddya at b'y? Today we finish up the villager nether hub that we will be using to transport villagers to any projects we need villagers at. Then we build a little brown dye farm, bring dolphins into our space tunnels, and add a cobble/stone/basalt generator to the Mining Lab.

"So this one time, I was like watching some Canadian hockey on television and I noticed the fire in my wood stove was about to go out. My log cabin was about to get very cold if I let that happen so I had to go out and get some more firewood. So I put on my red plaid jacket and my snow shoes, I went outside into the pine forest. But before I left, I also grabbed some maple flavoured Canadian bacon to chew on as I walked towards the trees. And while I was walking, to find a nice tree to chip down, a grizzly bear jumped out of the bushes and start to attack me to get my Canadian bacon and we wrestled and then after a while I was like, "sorry, we can just share" and- and then we said "sorry" to each other and we made up and we shared the Canadian bacon and I chopped down a tree and we were best friends and it was amazing."

@@MrSkarrn the first world was definitely broken by the update so that restart made sense, but because of his habits he has certain peculiar structures like a guardian farm in a plains biome thats actually an ocean.

Etho! For 'Hurtin Hermits' I'd love to see you take advantage of the 'no fall damage' mechanic in your level design! You could have a whole level visible from the start as you work through the only safe way down, think ridges and layers. :)))

@@migg-e I think it is quite hard to believe, that someone could do what they do so well and consistently for over 10 years, without getting bored, or without shilling out, trying to make their channel more marketable and more profitable etc. So many RUclipsrs have started out great and then eventually sold their soul, and become more unlikeable and less genuine in an attempt to get more viewers + money. AntVenom went that way, and Guudeboulderfist, and the majority of vloggers who got really big (Smosh, Niomi Smart, that sort of thing.) Etho is one of the few who's remained consistent to their formula - and it's worked - for so long, and has a loyal fanbase as a result of it. I think Vlogbrothers and C.G.P. Grey are other good examples.
Honestly keep getting blown away by how good Etho’s building skills are. Always making unconventional styles and block palettes look so appropriate.

The last time i watched an episode of EthosLab i was in elementary school in 2011-2012. when i was watching naruto today i was thinking about Minecraft and saw kakashi which reminded me of etho. however i couldn't remember his name so i searched youtube for two hours to find this and i am not disappointed at how much the server has changed. Etho was my entire child hood thanks bro.

I noticed that etho seems to post an episode on his world every 2 weeks. It is not on the dot but it is around that time. I hope that helps you predict some of his upload times.

I can't even confirm that Etho has a place for snow to collect.
Honestly its equally likeliy the moose was chasing the polar bear, animals that big and aggressive are nuts. Like how moose dive in the ocean to 20 meters and get eaten by orcas (top ten facts that sound wrong). Granted both species are capable of being gentle, a true wild animal in the right conditions (mother with baby, male in breeding season, ect) is terrifying and fearless.

Timmy's is owned by a U.S. company now and they use frozen doughnuts, so it's not too surprising.
Canadian here, Timmy's hasn't been very good for years. Their food is crap, coffee is hit and miss, and it can take up to 20 minutes in drive thru. For me it's lack of other options which is why I keep going back.... Also they ruined Roll of the Rim this year.
I love the interface for the generators! For one (or both) of the "gauges", you could bind a compass to a lodestone and break the lodestone so the compass needle moves randomly, making it a bit more dynamic and gauge-like.

Hey Etho! Seeing you at the lab again reminded me of a section I think would be fun for more of a display than a useful show of current mechanics.
There's a lot of history to Minecraft and there are several things that no longer exist, or quirks that were removed. A historical section would be pretty cool to display and log the things of the past to display them for future visitors of the museum/lab to learn about.
The most prominent one in my mind is when redstone dust could be converted into obsidian as a way to save and reuse lava to create new obsidian, I remember using that a lot on old beta servers before it was removed after tripwires were introduced and did the same thing, prompting Mojang to fix that bug as string was deemed too cheap/farmable and didn't necessarily require you to go digging underground.
A Canadian making a Canadian accent is probably the best thing to hear, ever.
Imagine a new viewer watching that intro as the first time they ever hear Etho speak.

"I'm not good at imaginary details" maybe not with building, but that's proposerous! I remember when you did all those characters in your world that really helped with world building. I still think about Episode 404 sometimes, and how you took something inconspicuous and made all this lore for it. Like what ever happened to Gen. Spaz?? Anyways, I don't want the game to stop being fun for you, but if you were to maybe add some characters to the series it would be very interesting. Keep up the great work
Hey late reply here but I absolutely agree. Etho is consistently the most creative and resourceful minecraft player I know. It's fascinating. His modded series with all those custom characters with their own schedules was fantastic!

Etho, with your lights at the start - try using beacons in the top block - that way all you'll see underneath will be the black obsidian, and it will still give off the light... or respawn anchors for purple. Congrats on 555 episodes.
Etho! I really like the balance you've found with aesthetics vs technical mechanics in your LP here. I know for a long time you've been known as the "technical guy" (like with your channel banner) but i appreciate that you've been pushing yourself to try new block pallets and make things in your world that aren't strictly useful. Perfect example in today's episode with the glazed terracotta, or with the entire monstrosity base on Hermitcraft. I think you've got a perfect blend, it makes your world a lot nicer to look at, and it makes the video a lot more engaging and well paced.
I'm really proud of how far you've come as a video producer over the years. Like many fans I've been here for a long time, and it's really refreshing to a see a channel consistently improve on it's own formula, rather lose direction or pander to trends.

I had a cool idea for a troll in Hurtin Hermits. You could put a visible but out-of-reach platform that they need to get to, maybe part of an obscure secret or something. At some point in the level, you'd have a puzzle who's solution is actually completely unrelated to that platform. However, halfway through the puzzle you give them an ender pearl as a fake prize. I doubt it would actually catch anyone off guard, but maybe they don't realize and try to use the enderpearl to get to that out-of-reach secret platform. Either that, or it'd just be a funny little troll item for doing part of the puzzle.
I didn't know Etho was so fluent in French! That intro sure was a surprise.

I’ve been watching you for years and always enjoy coming back now and then to see your progress on the world. There are gaps between episodes like a TV series where I have little moments where I see something like “oh that’s new” and go back to see the mechanics of the build. Keep up the hard work I know it’s not easy having a series over 500 but I really can appreciate your efforts.

As someone who has never heard a stereotypical accent before, it took a lot of reading comments to figure out why Etho was speaking gibberish
Etho! There's a type of staircase that allows you to go up vertically 6 blocks in the space of one block horizontally. I don't think it can be waterlogged, but it is extremely fast, so maybe end the water, then have the staircase? It is still really fast, so it wouldn't slow you down too much.
The little compass and clock in item frames was a nice touch, I probably wouldn't have thought of that

21:10 You could place a lodestone in the nether and link the compasses to it before putting them in the item frames, that way they would continuously spin around and give the pressure gauge effect that you want.
I tell you guys what, If Etho makes his playthrough series to Episode 1,000 I wil watch the entire series from start to finish. Man he is the best. I started watching him around episode 50 odd and stopped around 150 then returned around 200 and stopped again somewhere around 300 then watched a few episodes here and there. Busy life! But the memories are so fun to go back to.
Hey Etho, I really appreciated that you did more involved redstone this time around. I've noticed a trend to more show-and-tell style episodes but you've always kept it feeling personal and in depth. Start at 105 and savour it because I watched it all on 2x speed and it only took a few months, sadly. Now I can’t get that new to Etho feeling back. There are plenty of other series though that help. For example, when I watched Sky Factory 2.5 or currently, Foolcraft. Heck, he plays Sam n Max: Hit the Road. It’s all just so good.
Yeah. The beginning. Binge watch all the episodes but you miss out so much on his growth if you skip them, and moat importantly the references to the videos he made 9 years prior. Trust me you will thank me later. (I didn’t have this problem because I joined pretty early on but theres my advice, take it or leave it)
There's gonna be another of those high quality animatics made with that intro to sit alongside the legend of the Tim Horton's story.
Hey Etho, i think the reason the Enderporter-portal wasn't consistent for spawning in swim or standing was due to how horizontally close vs far the ender pearl was from the the ender portal frame. It looks like you spawn in swim mode when you threw the pearl while aligned against the iron bars. And it looks like you spawned standing after you threw the pearl while in swim mode; you can see that the pearl is very close to the edge of the portal frame then. I think its just you spawn in slightly outside of the iron bars if the ender pearl isn't close enough under the iron bars.

Awesome, Ender porter transition to the end. The observer-clock piston-push speed-increase thing is due to the wacky update order or something like that, really interesting dolphin despawn mechanic. Might be useful for a randomizer or a minigame, somehow throw in multiple items and he refreshes some while not others.

You can use a riptide trident to make your speed tunnel faster, especially for launching you out towards the Enderman farm. One use of a riptide trident always gets me enough distance to reach my Enderman farms, so I imagine it would work for yours too (Unless it's significantly further than 128 blocks from the island, which it doesn't appear to be, and I can't think of any reason for doing that.)
