I still think the President was(is) one of the best gold nibbed fountain pen values! I have two. Although discontinued, they can still be found new for between $130 and $150. To know that the nib and section is the same is a little mind-blowing. Thank you, Doug!

What a generous spirit Murray has to share these magnificent pens! It is uncommon to see a critical review of a pen of this value (which, maybe, in the next few years, but not this year). So many thanks to Murray and you, Doug!

I just got back from a pen show, and was looking at some Taccia Maki-e pens. Their guts were Sailor KOP's. Your friend Murray is blessed to have that pen, but aren't we all blessed to have our pens to enjoy? Thanks for showing it to us, and thanks Murray.

Doug, please bring in the "Grand Poobah," +++Murray. He seems to have a treasure trove of the finest pens in the world.

The Izzumo range from platinum is beautiful:) hope you don’t mind me saying though, you don’t have to say urushi lacquer (urushi translates to lacquer)
Honestly, the pieces that platinum produce are sublime. I have a Hama No Matsu and the artistry is sublime

What an absolutely beautiful pen, thanks for showing. I bought my partner a Platinum Kanzawa Haku moon and rabbit pen a few months ago and although it is way further down the scale from this pen, it is still a gorgeous pen for the price. Platinum do make nice pens.

I recently purchased a Platinum President from an online retailer in Japan; there are still some NIB pens out there. I’m looking forward to inking it up.

I love the design of the pen. Now, if Platinum would make this pen without the Maki-e work and put it out on the market for less money, I would make it a point to get one.
Thank you Doug and Murray for this fabulous review.

I agree 100%. If this were the pen without any urushi at all, just ebonite, it would be very popular if it were at a $200-$300 price range.

I loooove the shape of Izumos!
And I love feedback but haven't experienced Platinum yet.
What's it like compared to Sailor nibs feedback?
    Anyway, thank you!

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  4 месяца назад +2

The Platinum "feedback" is just purely Platinum. I've only had one Sailor. It had feedback, but not the Platinum "pencil on vellum" feedback.

Thanks for sharing. I’m always impressed with the artistic flair of Maki-e pens. The workmanship is absolutely stunning. However, is it just me or does the #6 nib look small for this pen? It’s a chunky beast and I think a #8 nib would better balance the pen. Shame Platinum discontinued the President. I’m glad I bought mine. They’re really nice writers.

Newbie here! Nakaya makes luxury pens and are somewhat related to Platinum company? But Platinum still makes these pens under their own brand?

If this body were available in unpainted ebonite for around $300 I’d be all over it.
