    A 99-year-old friend from church told me about Bob Crosby and this song today. That’s what brought me here.

    The bass and drum duet in the middle is classic. Developed by Bob Haggart and Ray Bauduc one evening when the rest of the Crosby band was late getting back on stage to start the next set and they improvised to keep the crowd entertained.

      Interesting, that's probably why it never sounds exactly the same in different performances.

      I have a friend who played with both of those guys (at different times). There is a video on RUclips with just the two of them doing the whole song.

      @@replyhere590 if I was at a jazz show and it sounded like the record, I'd be pissed.
      Hell, I feel that way about country, rock or rock bluegrass. The rides and fills should be extemporaneous.

    The girls singing are the Wilde Twins, Lee and Lynn from Indiana, they did a lot of Mickey Rooney "blond movies". They started with Ray Noble's orchestra, then went with Charlie Barnett. They were under contract with MGM for seven years. Hope this helps those who want to know who the beautiful blonds were. Thanks for posting

    The family story goes... My uncle Bobby Haggart, my dads brother in law, wrote this about my dads brother JB. They, the Crosby band, played the Pump Room in Chicago, JB and friends came in from Winnetka and sat in the floor and wouldn’t stop talking, hence Big noise from Winnetka. My dad was working with the band at the time.

      Lived in Winnetka in the late 90s and into early 2000s and was playing trumpet/piano junior high jazz band when we were playing the tune, and the jazz band director at that time gave a story about it at one of our concerts. I don't remember about the specific people involved that became the title of the song, but it's almost the way I remember it: it was an incidental music created on the spot about the people who couldn't stop talking in the venue, who just happened to come from Winnetka, Illinois. If I remember correctly from the story, the whistle part of the song was to keep everyone quiet.

    • @Lilactime402
      @Lilactime402 Год назад +1

      Bob Crosby was annoyed by the noise from one table, and to quiet the people he asked who they were. One man at table yelled back that they were the big noise from Winnetka. Winnetka is a lovely upscale village north of Chicago.
