13:55 "One is too many, and a thousand never enough". I'll never forget the first time I read that phrase. The reality hit me so hard. "Being able to drink in 'moderation' is every alcoholics dream; but all attempts to do so eventually become our nightmare".
@DixieDee yes, it's the great obsession of every alcoholic....but don't miss the point. Admitting that you are powerless is to admit that at certain times you cannot remember that you have this allergy. See page 24 of the Big Book, the paragraph in italics about the first drink. Let us know if we can help...God bless!
@@stepbystepwithdc For me, it isn't that I "don't remember" at times. It's that I start rationalizing with it. Or sometimes, will just plain not care. Mixing alcoholism with suicidality is dangerous.
Sorry - I just saw your reply. Take a look at Page 37 of the Big Book--the third full paragraph. When we look back and think we just didn't care, oftentimes we're not recognizing the mental blank spot for what it is--a part of this disease and a part of our denial.
@@stepbystepwithdc Yeah, that's true. Unfortunately, those "blank spots" can be very powerful at times. Right now I'm 24 days sober. Praise Jesus. I know He has me. I know it may sound silly, but I've come to think of alcohol as "liquid satan"; and it's helped tremendously in my desire to stay away from it lol.
I hope the four videos helped you understand the disease. There is also a series of videos that walk you through each of the twelve steps. You can find them @stepbystepwithdc.
