Trade down to 2. Take Maye and extra draft picks. Maye drives the ball down the seem extremely well.
Washington knows if Chicago is even slightly interested in trading back it means they can just sit pat and get the guy they want. Plus new GM who said he wants to build through the draft isn't going to hand over a bunch of draft capital.

Good call, so far Maye has definitely been better than Caleb. He's really cleaned up his footwork and short game accuracy, which I think were his biggest issues. Imo his level of play is in the same tier as Andrew Luck’s, Justin Herbert’s and CJ Stroud’s during their rookie seasons
Its either Caleb at 1 or trade down to 2 and its Maye. Its one or the other im convinced at this point.

When it comes to the most important position, you should never “settle” for a guy you like fine.

He's been a locked-in starter for two years, played a bunch more games as a starter than Mitch, and has looked better doing it. Mitch was not nearly playing at the level of Maye in his short starting stint. I struggle to understand this comparison.

If Dan Snyder still owned Washington, then yes, they'd be willing to give up a lot of picks to the Bears. But not the new group. Washington will stay at #2 and draft Maye themselves. Washington is rebuilding and needs a lot of pieces, and won't be willing to give up a lot of draft capital.
Yea that's who I'm big on is Drake May! I'm sure he has flaws to his game also but I like that from wat I've seen he looks like more of a pocket passer but can also scramble if needed

Drake Maye is even more accurate than Caleb Williams when it comes to the deep balls. He is the better pick. More accurate and quick release. I also think he would be able to take on the NFL pressure better than Caleb. If you look at his interviews, he looks more Pro ready. Shane Waldron hire just smells Drake Maye... Drake is the perfect quarterback in the draft to run his offense.

Washington isn’t trading up. Maye is more NFL ready than Caleb and could end up better. I think Caleb needs more development than Maye. Washington isn’t going to draft Caleb unless he’s there at 2. Not sure where you're getting that -- that QB class was nowhere close to as touted as this one, and Mitch had a lot of questions for being a 1-year wonder with inconsistent field vision and decision-making, prone to panic under pressure. Maye's worse year was on par with Trub's best. The 2022 season blows that Trubisky season out of the water.

What is this guy talking about? The size thing is a legitimate concern, but his other points are nonsense. Williams works the entire field as much as Maye does and from comparing both, I've seen way more plays racking up YAC for USC than NC. That tells me Williams is putting the ball in better spots and getting it out faster.
Williams can use touch and velocity on his throws depending on the situation and Maye tends to be a velocity thrower and doesn't get as much air under the ball in certain situations, Tice admits as much in the video.
As for athleticism, there is no comparison. Maye looks like a lumbering sasquatch when he scrambles and he doesn't seem all that great with his escapability. Sure Williams will go down easier based on size, but I'd trust Williams to identify pressure earlier. His pocket presense and awareness is definitely ahead of Maye.
What's even more ironic about this take is Maye has been sliding in mocks recently. Williams hasn't moved.

No he didn't. He was a late riser all the way up to being drafted and was never projected in front of Trubisky and I saw maybe one or two mocks that had him ahead of Watson. Never saw him projected in the top ten. He was seen as a boom or bust prospect. @@kimnovak2546

It makes even less sense when a first time, first year GM is at the helm. He would immediately be starting his career with an insane lack of picks. At the absolute most, I think Wash would give up the 2nd and 4th this year, and a 1 next year. That’s max! Obviously, being a Bears fan, I hope I’m wrong.

if you're getting #2 in this scenario as well, you're not getting 2 seconds AND Allen/Payne AND a future first. #2, #36 OR #40, and a future pick. Bears fans need to tamper their expectations about what the Commanders would give up since they're only moving up 1 spot.

I’ve been in the Drake Maye minority since the start of the Bears offseason.
Maybe not as much upside as Caleb, but certainly no personality red flags to speak of.

I appreciate the perspective, but Maye & only two yrs of experience is a huge red flag. I believe we have already experienced this with both Mitch & Justin. Neither of this yrs SB QBs would beat Maye in the underwear Olympics ijs...so although "undersized," I'll go with the more proven commodity in Caleb. 🐻 ⬇️

Maye is rated over Daniel’s because Daniels will probably weigh in about 200lbs and that matters for holding up in the nfl. Also Maye was very clutch when trailing and has been Throughout his college career. People just dog him over the last 2 games where his team was overmatched defensively on the road against teams with nfl dudes on d. He has plenty of clutch moments in his career. His team was really bad. He was the only reason they won any games at all

Given the Bears' horrid decision making on drafting QBs they might be better off by trading away the number one and if necessary the number two if that's part of the 1st overall pick trade and then just draft whatever QB is left over. "Hey, it wasn't our fault, it was the only guy left.". Yep, Fields reads the field slowly and poorly so that's why he does well on deep flys because the read is much simpler than seeing the middle.

If that doesn’t sound like Trubisky I don’t know what does. If you’re going to pass on the best prospect you might as well stick with Fields and draft MHJ. Can you imagine the backlash in this city if we Pick Mayes and there is a noticeable downgrade from CW and Daniel’s. Why put yourself in that position.
