Both started roughly the same time just a year between them, simple minds and U2 I mean. So must have been something in the air at that time

Simple Minds was before U2 Bono used to go to minds Concerts in 1980 and recently said Simple minds Influenced them.

U2 and Simple Minds started around the same time. (Late 70s/early 80s) You're hearing that Celtic rock influence with U2 being Irish and Simple Minds Scottish. This track builds and builds and you should know Simple Minds are still performing. Glad you liked the lyrics but maybe time to lighten up a bit guys. I'm older than you and I was bopping along to it 😅❤ Good music is timeless and ageless and I'd definitely say that about this track.

Simple Minds is a great band and this song of theirs is massively underrated.

Hey guy's I thought I'd suggest another song by a band I believe you've reacted to before and seemed to enjoy their work, so, if interested. "Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Still The Same (Live From San Diago, CA 1978)" (by the channel: Bob Seger) --This song was written and recorded by Bob Seger and is from his ninth studio album called "Stranger In Town" the song hit #4 on the US billboard Hot 100. As always, I enjoyed rocking with you two. Thanks for sharing.

2:38 interesting you suggested they sound like U2 - they have often been referred to as “U3” by critics saying the same thing.
I say this as a long time fan of Simple Minds - it’s true. Through their whole career, their sound has tended to mirror that of U2 - so as U2 evolved, so did Simple Minds, although Simple Minds has also had tracks that sound nothing like U2 too, especially early on.
I haven’t listened to this track of theirs in a good few years, and I was thinking how it sounded like U2 had become maybe 5 years earlier than when this came out (whenever U2 put out the “Discotech” and “The Fly”).
Simple Minds had some massive hits in the mid 80s (Don’t you forget about me) but they never managed the success U2 got after The Joshua Tree and they would spend several years between the odd minor hit (Belfast Child) and this track marked another of their minor re-emergence into the spotlight.
They went from punk and very avant guard stuff to pop to stadium rock to this kind of “disco” revival so they have some very different sounds depending on which album you listen to (tracks like Kant Kino and Reel to Reel, are VERY different - then Up on the Catwalk, Chelsea Girl - different, Then Don’t You forget about me, Waterfront - different again, then Belfast Child …oh boy, I need to start listening to all my Simple Minds albums again!)
I finally got to see them in person at a gig in Birmingham shortly after this when a friend got us tickets to go see them as a birthday present for me - and boy, did they know how to work a big crowd still!
I don’t know how many people you’ll get watching reactions to their stuff, but it would be fun seeing you react to things from different eras of their very varied sounds :)
…and if you are a U2 fan, you will almost certainly find a lot of their stuff will appeal to you too :)
(By the way, they HATED to be compared to U2, at least according to a biography book I have with an interview with Jim Kerr - and their fans tended to reject the accusation too, but….i can’t deny the similarity)
