Just use a good browser (like librewolf, brave, mullvad) or just get ublock origin. Malicious sites won't even load in. It's almost impossible to get hacked just by clicking a link nowadays.
@nathan-n2 Typing/spelling error. I'm saying it wasn't intentional, he added that one letter at the end by accident when trying to type the legit geoguessr link
Browsers really should make that the default setting, I’m not sure why they don’t. I’ve made websites before and the user doesn’t even have to click anything, you can start the download as soon as the site is loaded. (unless of course they turned on that setting)
It depends on what the file is but sometimes it can be executed automatically. Just like when you download chrome extensions it's runned without any clicks so it's kinda fucked anyway (to be fair it doesn't seem like it but you never know)
@@hablo_papøl I mean chrome extensions are just .crx files it download in the background, if your internet is slow you can see the download. But I just tried some things and I don't think they run automatically anymore if you just download a random one. There is still somewhat of a vulnerability because to run the extension once downloaded it only takes one click on 'Run extension' to execute the extension but they use to hide the button behind a popup or when you refused geo-localisation on websites. I once had a extension download itself and execute almost immediatly when I clicked "refuse to give localisation". Browsers might not work the same anymore because that was pretty fucked.
