14:43 started up as if she ran yesterday. But it had already all the indicators. Fluids all up to spec. parked inside. bucket over the exhaust. Little Betty was loved by her owner. That's why she was a good girl and started up as if she only slept a little. I love it.
A good barn find always makes me a little sad, and a little joyful. Those pieces of equipment represent the life of someone no longer with us. It's heart warming to see a piece of that person's life not only spring back to life itself, but to also be able to provide joy to a new owner.
3:40, can we take a moment to think of the guy that past away who clearly (like Chris) properly maintained his vehicles so that it started right up after 10+ years?
@@michaelowen1750 Given how long it sat, it likely has high sulfur diesel. Fuel could be clean and good after all that time if there was no water in it. Pre-06 off-road diesel had a shit ton of sulfur which would keep anything from growing in it. Modern low sulfur (500ppm) and ultra low (15) is shit for lasting, the old stuff was 3000+ppm.
One great video of two young, successful and hardworking mates having fun and relaxing doing what comes natural - buying their dream machines. That equipment stock looked well cared for. Good find.
I think Justin's dad got himself a new toy whether Justin likes it or not, lol. The look on Justin's face when it started up right away was priceless. Great find, great machine.
Chris, your machine and Justins’ machine are testimonials to how well machines were built back when they were manufactured. Incredible that Justins’ machine just started up the way it did. Wow. Great find.
Put a big smile on my face when she lit off like that! That’s going to be a great machine, she was well taken care of by the owner. I’m sure he was smiling down.
Old Cat diesels always start. I bought a 58 D2 that had been in a shed for 30+ years, pulled it out with a tractor, put it in gear and the tracks didn't go all the way around before it was running. He's going to be really happy once it starts percolating on some new diesel fuel. Great find, nice tractor indeed. Best regards from Indiana.
Wonderful memories, many thanks for posting. Early 1970’s in Sydney, Australia constructing Housing Sub-Divisions and general civil works. Cat 941 and 951 doing the job. Drainage trenches by Jackhammer and boodlier 😅 An old six stick Fordson backhoe if the ground was soft enough. And a Cat 212 with a pilot motor plus 12E cat grader. McDonald steel drum roller, other that the plant mentioned we had and used daily the always reliable “shovel and pick”. Trainee Civil Engineer, we had to learn everything from the shovel to surveying. Loved every day, week and years. Cherry on top was the wonderful smell of the Emulsion as the tar and gravel was spread at the competition of each job. Fantastic channel best wishes 👍🍺🍺🍺🙏🏼
Love to see you getting around the older iron again Chris! Would love to see a series on rebuilding or repainting betty if you ever have the time or going out and buying a few other old iron toys. Thanks for showing us this mint track loader, it was a real treat
I love old machinery. Giving it new life, great fun. They have so much character too. Wonderful to see Justin and his laugh. I love the friendship between you too.
Nice find Justin-I can't believe that right track stayed on. Sometimes almost half of it was off the sprocket. Guess it was meant to be. Good luck with this.
you were down 3(?) weeks on a brand new machine because of a sensor, and this sits for 20 years and starts on the first try with old diesel and oil? respect.
I WORK ON A LOT OF CAT 3512'S AND THIS CAT ENGINE SOUNDS AMAZING SHE IS RUNNING ON ALL CYLINDERS AND BURNING CLEAN FOR HER AGE YOU GOT YOUR SELF A WINNER!!!!!
If you get time, it would be nice to see Betty sitting next to Little Betty and do a comparison of the two. You've both done well with your recent finds. Congrats to both of you.
Betty and 'little Betty' ??? or "Betty and Wilma" ????? Could have your own BedRock Gravel Pit and would give you an excellent reason to get a Fred and Barney.
That motor runs like a new one..unreal how tight it sounds . Change all the fluids and filters..get the tracks up to par..some hydraulic lines...you practically have a new dozer..great find
Great machine for a small grading contractor. I work 10 years for a contractor that had one. Ran it, fixed it, serviced it. All around a good machine. Never had a serious brake down, just minor leaks here and there. Good find! Just a note on the bucket control. It would seem like bucket control it is backwards, and threw me off at first. This machine is meant for loading, so with that in mind, it is convenient after digging into a pile, to pull back on the lift control and raise the bucket. As you get to the dump truck, you can also pull back on the bucket control to start dumping the bucket.
I had a old 64 3020 set up like that. Damn strong tractor. Gas hog from hell though. Good for Justin. I'm happy for him and how fast his company is growing.
Say what you want about old gear but these two loaders the guys bought were great finds and will serve them well when it comes to moving dirt. You won't see any 40 or 50 year old gear from the New Technology. You won't even have to leave your office or home when you clear land in the future.
Great video brought back memories of buying a 951B in 1970. £10,000 including being sign written and delivered. It was so comfortable compared with the 1950s D8 we were using.
Justin that is probably gonna be a good ole loader! Looks and sounds great. If a few cylinders repacked and a few hydraulic lines is all you need then you did big. Thanks Chris, good video.
Brilliant find. Love seeing you two boys together again having a wonderful adventure. Starting first time was just amazing. Just goes to show the way the old stuff was made to last, not like today’s fancy machines! Great video Chris, thanks for sharing.Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
Looks like a well taken care of machine, i had to ditch those four 6V batteries remade my battery tray and put 2 road tractor batteries in it for simplicity and availability.
Hot damn now there's a Betty and little Betty lol. Had my fingers crossed it would start right up. Love seeing old machine get bought and used. Good luck with your new ole machine Justin.
My dad drove one of these back in ireland. . I remember he took me to work with him when I was 5 or six. I got to sit on the arm of the seat and work the bucket levers. At lunch he let me drive it myself. I was so small that I had to stand up to push the pedals. I’m 51 now and still think about that day like it was yesterday. If you want to sell it. I’m interested in buying it. I was always looking for one while he was still alive and visiting me here in nevada. I couldn’t find a 951. All I could find were 955. I wanted to keep my dreams 100%. 🍀
Nothing really amazing about it starting. That is just old Cat equipment. It can sit for years in fields yards barns most anywhere and with little effort start. It is just good stuff. Justin got a good machine. Previous owner took good care of it apparently. All it needs is a good cleaning and greasing and tighten the tracks and run it. I would love to have that 2440 Deere tractor.
Sears used to be a mail order place then became a brick and mortar store when people wanted buy in person. Now amazon type shopping is back in favor. People used to get the latest and greatest cell phones that smaller than the last generation only to change the norm to buying the one with the largest screen. The track loaders used to be on every construction site but fell out of favor for the much smaller skid steers. Over the years the skid steers got bigger and took on rubber tracks and now the old track loaders seem to be more and more popular again. I think Justin got the better deal.
That was a good find. Some basic maintenance and undercarriage work and it should be a good machine. I think the track adjuster is just a single seal from what I remember.
We’ve got a ‘Cat Traxcavator Pickers’ channel going here! Love the saving of old iron, keep these adventures coming. Chris, you need a find a little 933F or G for the little cleanup jobs that need a baby track loader. Betty’s baby sister to keep her company.
I generally don't bother with barn find videos, and I've not got a huge track record with heavy plant fandom either. Chris I don't know what you have done to me over the last couple or three months, but I was really quite a bit too excited over this! I'll be keen to see where this one ends up going too. Be well Mr.
Dad just bought one of these back in August. So far replaced a leaky track tensioner and have to do two hydraulic seals. They are excellent machines and it starts up great in cold weather.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍A good quality find alot of people lack the skills and patience to revive older equipment. Give it a wash it will come up like a bought one. It has plenty of life left in it by the look of things👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You have to love a good barn find. The beauty of diesels is that as long as you have fuel and good compression they will normally fire up. At least someone had the good sense to cover the exhaust

@@michaelowen1750 But it started right up and that was my point, not what will happen next week.
Keeping stuff in the dry makes a huge difference.

Great to see Justin doing well Cant believe it started and ran as good as it did Thanks for sharing Chris 👍
I just love Justin personality; I always enjoy seeing him in one of Chris's videos. Wow got that old thing a running.
It's great to see the 'A' team of Chris and Justin back together again. Always entertaining when they get together, and always fun.
One great video of two young, successful and hardworking mates having fun and relaxing doing what comes natural - buying their dream machines. That equipment stock looked well cared for. Good find.
Justin is a ol soul southerner , its great to see a young man with his demeanor.

That machine was just barely broken in good ! Never seen one start that quick after sitting so long ! Lucky find !
Congrats, Justin. And thanks to you and Chris for rescuing and saving old iron. Every piece deserves a chance to live and play another day.
Justin!! ALWAYS so good to see you! Great find! 👍😎💕
Love my 951B, sure he will have alot of fun with it. Same storey on mine, sat for over 15 years and did not take much to start.
