Shawn, You have a real talent for teaching. Many can teach but sometimes gloss over some crucial elements when teaching. You do not do that. I see you take care and with patience to make sure you explain the the lesson. Please continue.
This was very helpful and helped me completely coming from a guitar standpoint. Breaking down and clarifying the downbeat and backbeat was very helpful. I appreciate this video.
Very enlightening! The “flam” perfectly emulates what Roger Taylor’s two drum sticks are doing and humanises it. In the guitar world, it would create a chorus effect. This is an area of EZ Drummer 3 that I have avoided due to my lack of knowledge. But your explanation makes perfect sense. Thank you.
Thanks, Shawn! Another great video series. Forgive me if you said and I just missed it, but I think a lot of what folks miss when programming drums (and I know some of this is stylistic preference) is the lack of 'humanization' applied. That's why I found you showing changing different velocities for straight hits, or flam hits, etc. so important. Its when you take the perspective of a drummer that things begin to click. I know it did for me, and other folks I work with that program drums for their music. Anyway, thanks again.
This video literally answered like 20 questions I was going to ask you, lol. Well, now i gotta think of other questions to ask later on. Thanks for making this. 🤘👍
Its very gr8 initiative buddy !! Many of us just rely on presets available in EZ drummer as we don't have skills or basics of drums editing...Thx for such a wonderful information 🎉🎉 ..Pls do cover a few metal songs as well so as to sharpen our drum editing skills 😊😊 ...Merci Beaucoup!!
I'm looking forward to this one, especially when you get into more complex beats. I've got a good grounding in easy drummer principles but looking to expand my skillset and make my drums better. Keep up the great work. Well explained as well.
This series is going to be very helpful to me. I tend to just use the preprogrammed midis but would love to understand how to use the grid editor effectively to be able to add what I'm hearing in my head but cant figure out how to make it happen.
@@ShootieSchool Thanks and yes, it's been too long. Wasn't doing much with music for the last 6 months due to shoulder issues and now life in general is just busy. EZDrummer is the glue I need to help bring my guitar and bass together.
Love the series. I grabbed EZ Drummer and more recently EZ Keys (because of your videos). Was addicted to the videos and making progress in the beginning. Kinda got sidetracked and haven't spent any time with the keys and little time with the drums. But every time I watch your videos, I want to get better and absorb more. It is hard I won't say its not. But your videos get people moving around in short order and I just need to keep moving. You teach in a way that is inspiring and honestly it gives novice folks like me hope. Hey with your help I got an entire original done. I don't think its very good and I have a lot of work to do but, with the Shootie School, there is major hope and a passion to get it done at a higher level. I like these for sure!! Time to Flam!!!
I like the idea. I like this 15 minute specific application of one of the tools within EZD. You do a great job of demonstrating exactly how to create a beat that fits the song. I hope you will continue with this style of content, and that you apply it to the other Toontrack programs. Thanks, Sean.
Hey Shawn, this series is a great idea. Love it. Would be great if you do that for some famous "Ringo Star Grooves" like "Come Together", "Ticket to ride", "In my life"
Thanks a lot! Now I know that you can make flams and leave at the resolution at e. g. ⅛. This alone was worth it watching this video. Looking forward to the next episodes! 👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hey, Shawn! I watched this when it dropped yesterday but got pulled away before I could comment. As a guitarist, I don’t know drum techniques or, more importantly, how to identify them by ear very well. So this series is exciting to me. Please keep ‘em coming. This and the “I’m on Fire” video from last month (I think?) have been quite educational and eye-opening. I don’t know about requests, but the opening to “Walk This Way” would be cool for me, especially getting that (i assume) high hat hit right. Finally, as a Sgt in the Shootie army, i demand the word “wussier” or some variation be used in every video. 😂
This episode as foundational knowledge, it's great! I'd love to watch you taking on some other songs as a whole. Let's say something like 'That's what you get' from Paramore and talking about how they got their guitar tones, Programming their drums, How to track things like Ezbass using your guitar. I'd be really awesome!
As a long time amatuer guitarist, singer and key player who understands notation "musically" ie. (the scales and some music theory), I still find translating "rhythm" into a DAW very difficult. Even while I can naturally play something in triplet, i often dont realise it is, and get frustrated trying to make it conform to a grid it can't conform to. So long story short, I personally would find a continuation of this 'back to basics' very valuable!
I have been stuck on how to program drums for ever, this really helped me understand timing and navigating the program, im a big noob when it comes to setting up the program and storing the file in the correct spot/ downloading sound packs ect... considering joinging you course, would i learn all that as well?
Thanks for saying! My RUclips membership for $5 a month is simply more videos more often with no ads a few small extra perks. My course on my site is a straight up purchase about building a drumkit in EZD. I have a second course coming out next month for mixing EZD. Thanks for asking!
Shootie, loving this series I hope there's a lot more to come. Quick question do you like when laying out drums to do it completely and EZ drummer or will you just drag a section into your DAW and continue building from there?
Yes I was just going to tell you that Velocity ( 1st Hit of FLAM is less Strong that the Last Hit ! ) Sorry-I was just ahead of you while having Breakfast :)

It's a great idea for a series
This is exactly what I need. I will become a fully fledged member once I can afford it.
This is great and extremely helpful. Would love to see a song like Territory by Sepultura used for an example like this .
Great explanation on building a groove from scratch, thanks!
Thank you!

Thanks for saying, Charles!
Thank you!!! I've been working with ezdrummer 3 for a little bit, and this is exactly what I needed to help me make my drums sound more authentic.
👏👏👏👍👍👍👍 soooo good,thanks a lot 🥁
You got it!
You never disappoint, Shawn! Great video with good insight!
Thank you or saying!
Shawn, just the kind of tutorials I need. Not really a drummer, this is basic to many, but perfect for those. Trying to learn drums. Thanks, bro!
Thanks for the feedback!
I think that this series is just what I need to be able to program for my music. Just this one episode has opened my eyes. Keep it coming, Shawn.
Great to hear!
Yes, this idea is brilliant, so please keep creating more lessons like these.

Great! Please continue creating this series, great learnings on real life famous examples!
Will do!
Hello Shawn, continue with the series, it is a great idea. I have learn several concepts from this video. Thanks
Good to hear, thanks!
In addition to the beat it would also interesting to recreate the sound of the dedicated song with Toontrack products
This was great! Looking forward to the rest of the series. thank you.
Thank you!
This is the series I've been waiting for! Most of the questions I've ever put in live chat were pointing toward this. Please continue!
Thank you for the feedback, Derek!
This makes me a very happy camper. Love it!

looks like a good method for making samples sound larger without compression, reverb or any other processing cool.
