That first one is actually quite common in the US. It's called 'waitress wages', which has been stuck at 2.13 for like the past 15 years. Because tips are supposed to cover the amount to minimum wage.
I don't like such tip/bonus based constructions in general, but I feel like if you really want to use that format, you need to guarantee at least minimum wage if tips aren't sufficient to cover the difference between the salary and minimum wage. That's why it's called minimum wage. It should be the absolute minimum for the tasks that are performed.
It varies by State. Some don't have tipping credit, and even where it's allowed Federal law says it can only be done when tips compensate the lower salary, so waitresses will ALWAYS be paid the same as the cashier at the store you don't feel the need to tip. Also it means the tip is just going to the management anyways since they are taking it out of wages.

That was my thought too. Especially since he even gave out a wrong address in the add, sounds like a major setup for robbery. Or yes, a really stupid stunt to get a free ride.
That's what I was thinking. That whole interaction (on the sellers part) seemed off to me... They either were just trying to get a ride or had another intention, whether it was robbing or something else. For some reason I doubt the "seller" even had a camera.
Yeah, that was HELLA sketchy. At a minimum the seller was an idiot. LOL If you didn't want them at your house, the easiest thing for most people would be to bring the camera to work, have the buyer meet you there.
I disagree, while it could be a set up for a free ride or robbery I am more inclined to the seller simply being a frigging idiot unable to see the inconsistencies of the story.
That borrowing ketchup story reminds me of one of the first time my now wife was over at my place. We were making some food and she had brought some brownie mix, problem was I didn't have a hand mixer so we asked a neighbour to borrow one. When we returned it (along with some brownies) the neighbour asked me if I wanted this old microwave they had, which I of course accepted as I didn't have one and being right out of uni money were a bit tight. In the end that microwave stayed with me for about 10 years, by now I gave it to my wife's brother who is still using it... So I guess a reverse CB there, just wanted to borrow a hand mixer and got a free microwave.
And they offered you the microwave because you acted like a reasonable and pleasant person by returning the mixer in good condition and throwing in some brownies.

I’m pretty sure that the seller in the second story is such an unpleasant person, that they had to resort to this “camera selling scheme” to get rides. They obviously don’t have any friends anymore with that kind of attitude.
I had a similar thought. If OP actually went out of their way to pick the seller up from work, they would definitely have some lame, illogical excuse as to how they "forgot" to bring the camera. Yeah, companies have been stealing labor under the guise of 'training' for decades now. Mind you these same companies also require college degrees and YEARS of experience for entry level jobs so how valuable is a summer or 1 year internship in reality?
Unpaid internships were the norm in a lot of fields through most of the 20th century. It started because in the 1940s the Supreme Court ruled that some railway workers didn’t need to be paid for their one-week training. Corporations pounced on this idea and it snowballed until it became the norm for a person in college or who had just graduated college to work for *months* as an unpaid intern. The system works to humble new college graduates and it also works to bar entry to people that don’t come from wealth (at least enough that their parents can support them for several months). Since these are usually lucrative career fields it’s another system that keeps the rich rich and the poor poor. If you were raised poor, even if you managed to go to college and graduate, it might not be enough if you can’t afford to work ridiculous hours doing grunt work for several months before you even get the chance to start your career. Thankfully, this generation is fighting back against unpaid (and even underpaid) internships. It means the Boomers are going to wail about “tradition”, and “this is how it’s always been done”, and “it builds character!”, and “back in my day…” and try to force unpaid internships on people, but they’re going to lose that battle. They’re just upset because they can’t/won’t change with the times.
@@Annie_Annie__ Yes, there are definitely fields where these "internships" require familial wealth. How else can someone move to and live for weeks/months in an expensive city working full time for free and turning up in professional attire? And then employers prefer those with said internship experience even if they have little other value.
"No Job hoppers" Alright. That means you only want people with no experience that have never had a job before, correct? Because other wise they left their last job for this one.
Hey, Mountain biker here. Just to help illustrate just how insane that dude wanting a bike was, a mountain race worthy hardtail is about 1,000$ which should last anyone a long time. A decent Full sus starts at 2,000$. Also hardtail and full suspension are different things. Hardtail only has a front suspenion and a full sus has a rear and front. Anyway he could also have built his own for cheaper and get better parts, but considering his request in the first place id bet he would never do that kind of work. My own hardtail was about 700-800 to build but is far better than a new 1k built bike. Then again I have 5 bikes and only 2 are serious.
The whole time during the first one I was thinking it sounded like a restaurant I served at, so the 2.13 an hour is sadly standard in most states. (The 2.13 also usually gets taxed to zero after claiming tips.)
Yes, I also thought it must be a server. But expecting to get an experienced server with specialty knowledge at that rate seems pretty crazy. Presumably if the servers make lots in tips, the ad would say so. LOL

Gotta love when people think paying a so low is a genuine live-able wage, and a privilege. I work at a grocery store for Pete’s sake and I get 12-16 an hour. I’m 16 so I assume it’s decent for my first job, but it’s not something that can justify how *expensive* things are now.
My first job when I was 18 in 2008 paid $6/hr. My adult roommate with almost 15 years of experience gets $17/hr and this is the highest he's ever been paid
I wonder, a lot of people who fight minimum wage increases, their arguments are usually "but it's just high school kids, they don't need $15" which.. is understandable? I mean, my first job, I wasn't supporting myself, I literally just wanted work experience, obviously inflation and whatnot, but $6/hr was enough for me. Maybe if we raise minimum wage for workers who's wages pay their bills, but not for workers who don't support themselves. Idk if it would shut them up, and it definitely has room for abuse, but it's an idea. Waitresses already have a different wage because of tips. But as a former business owner.. staff wages are not your highest expense. That was one of my lowest expenses. I was paying $10/hr in 2019, so admittedly not a lot but the job was really easy and allowed a lot of freedom, and that's still $2 over minimum wage here. But I could definitely have afforded to pay them more

He even put a wrong address in the add. And then he wants to have OP drive him “home” to an unknown location. Yeah, to me that sounds like this guy was going to rob him of his phone, money and car.
Yeah, that's what I'd expect someone to ask for if they wanted a bike for fun/transportation and had no money. Lots of folks probaby have bikes they haven't ridden in years that they might donate in that situation. BUT no one is handing out a high end bike they could easily sell for cash. LOL
I used to play roblox a lot when I was younger. Along the way I developed an ability that gave me a decent idea of who are the younger ones (less than 13) and those who are a bit more mature. So for the logo design one I am fairly certain that the person is much younger simply from the way he/she talks. What I found super common in the younger people is the tendency for them to omit certain words but still get the message across. You can see this in sentences like "You dumb" instead of "You are dumb" and "What elaborate mean" instead of "What does elaborate mean". Also "What elaborate mean" pretty much identifies that person as young as nobody older would straight up ask a stranger what a word means, they would just google it. Another thing is the fact that he/she wants the job done for free, indicating that person has not yet realized that nothing in the world is free.
If you were a good businessman/woman then you would absolutely pay interns. Hey, I'm a fellow MTBer - a hardtail mountain bike is just that - a mountain bike without a rear suspension. They can be cheaper than 450$. However, the high end bikes - Santa Cruz, Nukeproof, Iron horse and the like are made for going down 45° hills at ludicrous speeds - so they cost 10k$ rightfully so. For instance, a really high front suspension, a Fox 40 float Kashima coated costs 2500€ alone, about 2600$. Just one part. Add really high end wheels and tires, transmission, brakes, and the bike body itself with a rear shock, 10k$ is pretty reasonable. Pivot Switchblade XX1 is about 20k.
Unpaid internships are actually illegal in most states now I think. People use/used interns for free menial labor and don't teach them anything valuable or give them any connections.
As a Italian, yeah, it’s pretty much all jungle here. I ride my crocodile at school everyday, while trying to not be bitten by snakes. Then before entering I pick up a rock and throw it at a pigeon so I have my lunch. I don’t always come home from school and just stay and sleep on a tree because often there are the barbarians making a hell out noise, and that’s pretty much the life of every plebeian
In fact part of the problem of universities not being worth it is BECAUSE everywhere is offering unpaid internships to “to gain experience” or demand 3 year’s work experience straight out of Uni
Exactly wut I was thinking too, "jingles... in Italy?🤣" Also "how can u be out of sugar? I'm out of sugar; that's my thing! Stop stealing my personality!"
The third story made me giggle because Cyrrodil, the Roman inspired nation in The Elder Scrolls, was originally tropical rainforest themed before the developers changed it to a Roman theme. And when I say "originally," I mean the jungle theme was only used in the first game like 30 years ago.
I used to think the same think about bicycles being *way* overpriced, and then I rode one of them. There's no comparison to riding those cheap things you can buy that have the same name. They have different geometry to accommodate different riding styles (fully upright all the way down to laying on the handlebars) while being comfortable enough to actually move your legs. They have different types of tires for different riding conditions (gravel path, paved road, forest trail, mountain terrain, sand, all have different tire types that do best). Different suspensions, different handlebars, different brakes. Most importantly, different materials. The lighter a bike is, the more it will cost. Also, the faster you will be able to move on it, because you are trying to move less mass. All of those differences add up, and the results are vastly different bikes and experiences. I love riding my Trek Domane, and my Trek DualSport. I won't ride them in the same places, though. Seriously, go to your local bike shop, and ask to take one around the block for a test ride. They'd love to show you what they have, and if you like riding at all, you're not going to believe the difference a well made (and, just as importantly, a well fitted) bike will make. I'm not quite willing to part with $10K, but I the $1K+ range? Yeah, they are way more worth it than you think.
The first one offering a job for $2.13/hr was most likely a waiter or waitress position. An hourly wage of that level is not uncommon for positions where the majority of the wage is made in tips. In my state, restaurant servers who are tipped employees start at $2.33/hr.
Human stupidity is the one resource that we shall never run out of. Meanwhile I like how the guy in the bike story is all "whenever the bike wants," as if he's the bike whisperer.

There's documentation about this. (2 to be exact, one is not a deep dive, and the second is a profound dive since Roblox tried to silence the first one)
So to clear up about the mountain bike story - Good mountain bikes are not cheap, and cheap mountain bikes shouldn't be on real trails. If you're just riding around the neighborhood or on some local dirt paths or whatever, get that cheap huffy from Walmart. But if you're going to be doing anything that will have your tires off of the ground, you need a fairly decent bike. Downhill even more so. Cheap frames snap under load.

If there was a camera, I think it was stolen. More likely, the seller was trying to set up the buyer for a mugging.
@@fdm2155 , well, it was the least that you could do...I mean, if I was in a similar situation myself, I would do the same thing, and I have done so myself.

OP: "Czechia. As in 'Czechia Privilege'."
So OP has to pick the seller up from work, then drive him home so the seller can get the camera, but OP has to drive the seller to the mall before they can have the camera? Seems legit. Something tells me OP would not be getting reimbursed for gas money.
Something tells ME that it was a scam, the "seller" of the camera reeks of the desperation of a druggie.

No, no, you see, it's only valid now since they are an adult now.
It isnt illegal if its a family owned business. But as long they are getting paid minimum wage or greater there no issue
@@robertbennett2796 It is still illegal if the child is under 12 or 13. Most states you have to be 14 to 16 to get a job.
@@zammymynakersnackstbmoth , what about the kids that want to start a business based on something like, say, making clothes, non-fungible tokens, making cryptocurrency, making apps, and/or making board/card/video games, that is, self-started, and self-entrepreneurial, business ventures ? What would be the law on such things then, out of curiosity?
Honestly, I wish I started earning money a lot sooner, started saving & investing very young, and built great credit....but I foolishly got into student debt, because I believed the lie that higher education guarantees employment, in dept for skills I could of learned for free online, I changed careers anyway to something I'm more passionate about, and no one, not family or school, taught me how credit works.
I had the learn the hard way, as in my mother got a creditcard in my name, brought toys with it like she was paying for them, then kept it from me in a drawer, as fees built up. Then when I found out that my credit score may have been keeping me from getting hired, because stupid employers were using credit scores to choose people, I finally demanded my credit card from my mother, and because no one taught me how credit works, I canceled the card in my nervous breakdown over me not being hired wherever I applied.
My point is, if a child is competent enough to do a task, and WANTS to work, then what's the problem?
I never understood the issue with child labor. If they are paid fairly like an adult, and are voluntarily working, then what's wrong?

Oh Dabney, you sweet summer child, the "seller" of the camera in the second story REEKED of the desperation of a junkie.
Yup! I have family members that struggle with addiction and I was immediately reminded of some of the convoluted stunts they’ve tried to pull.

Some people get through life by manipulating and taking advantage of others. I get being down on your luck (not having a car), but...you don't just expect free rides, especially not from strangers.

Internships are generally low pay (from what I heard). STILL, zero pay is an absolute *N O*

Gotta love when people think paying a so low is a genuine live-able wage, and a privilege. I work at a grocery store for Pete’s sake and I get 12-16 an hour. I’m 16 so I assume it’s decent for my first job, but it’s not something that can justify how *expensive* things are now.
I'm an adult and got offered this temp job that acted like they were paying a lot of money. They offered $9 an hour. Like wtf even Walmart pays more.

“Do these bikes do your taxes?!” Broke me😂
I used to think the same think about bicycles being *way* overpriced, and then I rode one of them.

If I lived next to that alien I would make sure I have sugar
Karens life coach students when the husband wants to sign a prenup: “Uhhhh this wasnt part of the lesson?”
"Do these bikes do your taxes for you!?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Significant LeVar Burton vibes in the "But hey, don't take my word for it!"
Logo designer one: wow a CB where they think the person isnt even good enough for exposure. Imagine being op. where your service is needed by the cb....but they arent worth money or exposure.
I told my mom who makes/sells small art (she specializes in coasters, paper flowers, etc) and used to teach art classes for kids (and have camps) about how CBs will refuse to pay and offer exposure. she said....depending on the person (artist if new or buyer who does have connections)....exposure can be very good and some would accept it. which does make sense. But its not good for everyone
rslash having a breakdown over bike prices was pretty hilarious to me
Don’t forget but that MTB bike has to be sentient too, if it has to fancy going out for a ride or for fun itself.
RE: The Ketchup/Catsup snob - I can TOTALLY relate. Some people are just wickedly Brand Loyal. Honestly it can come down to some type of normaculture, or even implicit bias.
I'm lucky to be close to the 2 neighbors I have because I've actually had to borrow butter and sugar while baking before.
Happened here too a bunch of times, but we did get to "taste test" as a thanks for the help.
That was when our little town only ever had a grossly overpriced supermarket where such basic necessities were 4x more expensive than anywhere else. 😆
LOL I was listening while walking as usual and wasn't paying much attention for a minute. I was listening to the RayCon sponsorship and was like "When is this guy gonna get to the point? It sounds like he'd just plugging earbuds, not talking about a choosing beggar!"
...then I realized that's exactly what was happening. Durrr.
When a boss wants yes to be the answer to every question, RUN! I was in a job where the boss had that attitude and it was the worst
With how college is, I got a job during it. Lost it temporarily because of the pandemic, but got back in as business picked up. I love that job and thank my teacher for helping me with it. Imagine if my job I got through college didn't help me pay.
Bahahaha I'm so used to people wanting to pay artists in exposure, I nearly got whiplash from that logo CB who said "what? You think that you can have your name on the logo of some other designer?"
Absolute gold😂👌
