I liked it that the cellar characters were played by the ensemble, never occurred to me it was due to budget constraints, it seemed to create connection rather than be jarring.

I particularly love the way the basement characters are the opposite of their upstairs counterparts. For example, Katy Wix's is eloquent and a bit posh- the opposite of Mary.

Give it a chance! Only the first few episodes are like the original, but eventually it becomes its own thing! Plus, Mat has a guest appearance in the second season (in an episode called Dumb Deaths lol)

There a few good things about the American version. The "Gilded Age" woman is fabulous!!! The living husband is wonderful. The rest...mediocre. The hippie chick is pretty fun, the Viking is beyond annoying and, frankly, awful and the actress who plays the living is cloying. Also, being that it's American, CBS calls it an "original comedy". Exxcuse me!?! They've hardly made any episodes and it isn't on half the time because Americans would rather watch tripe like "Big Brother" and this new piece of excrement called "Buddy Camp". Don't waste your time. Stick with the real original.

@@nssquared9174 theyve made more than the uk show, as a Brit myself I respect that many people don’t particularly like the us version, but I watched the first 5 episodes and after those five, it starts to become more of it’s own show with its own humour

Born and raised Canadian. I have really enjoyed Ghosts (American). Last month, I got to start watching Ghosts UK and (about six episodes into Season One) am enjoying that one, too. It was interesting to compare the ensembles, to see what the Americans kept and what they changed. I think in the American version, they are quicker to tell us how the ghosts died on this lavish property, while in the UK version, I do not yet know those back-story details.

People hating on the American version when they’ve only watched a couple episodes. It’s its own show inspired by the UK one. Plus, having to keep up with American standards of many episodes a season, there are bound to be some duds. It’s very American cuz it’s American. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I love it.

    They are different shows....

I like to see it as taking place in the same universe, but in different locations. I like both shows and I love that the U.S. version expands on the lore of Ghosts in ways that the U.K. version doesn't. Both are great in their own right. Also, the more Ghosts content there is, the better, in my opinion. While I do prefer the U.K. version for various reasons, I still love the U.S. version as well. Also, yes, they are different shows, but that doesn't mean you can't compare them with each other, especially when one is clearly based off of the other. You are allowed to prefer one show over another.

Americans have huge budgets, yet they almost always manage to produce something with very low quality writing and acting. Expensive sets aren’t everything.
I recently watched four Roald Dahl shorts, written and directed by Wes Anderson. The sets are so simple, but the acting is phenomenal, and that’s all you need. Unless you’re deeply shallow, that is.

When I was growing up there was a distinct difference in quality between BBC sitcoms and ITV ones. ITV tended to be less sophisticated in the writing and much more pantomimish in the acting. They looked and felt cheaper. As though tgey were schedule fillers to support the adverts.
BBC ones weren't afraid to be more literate, have darker themes and generally went for character driven plots rather than straight forward gags.
I heard a critic once say that the only three good sitcoms ITV produced were Rising Damp series 1, Rising Damp series 2 and Rising Damp series 3.

In 🇺🇸 the objective is not to make good tv, the objective is to make sth passable to fill the void in between ads. The objective is to extract as much revenue as possible.

I don’t think the US version translates the original theme or even the concept of this show very well. Quite frankly I think it’s ridiculous that American television is even taking a British show and adapting it in the first place, why can’t Americans create their own concepts ??

I fell hard in love with the U.S. Ghosts when I watched it, so when I tried the U.K. version I couldn't get through the first couple of episodes. The mansion was mouldy, decayed and dreary, the main couple lacked the chemistry of the U.S. couple, the U.S. actors are better looking (sorry to be shallow), and the writing in the American version is snappier because the show is only 20 mins. to allow time for ads. But I eventually tried the U.K. version again and now love it too. (I'm a citizen of both countries, so try to be unbiased.)

    • @alfiedocherty3038

I think the Americans dumb down the show for the American audience. It was so scripted the chemistry between the ghosts and a UK version. You can see it straight off the couple in the American ghost is so scripted and the ghosts. The comedy is so scripted. There's no room for improvising and it definitely does not come across. Just The comedy too forced The worst thing about the American version. It's like there waiting for the next line. And then theres no Punch line snapchat hits right there just to dumb down.
