I bought one and love it. Assembly required a little more mechanical persuasion than you experienced. I augmented the powder coat paint with truck liner spray.
I just bought this roof rack for my Jeep earlier. I personally think it might be better to mount it on the crossbars a little closer together instead of at the very ends to support any weight on top better. Say the length is 100 rather than mounting at 5/95, 25/75 or 30/70 I think would distribute the weight better to prevent the middle area from flexing downward if that makes sense. Also maybe a little Vaseline/silicone on the ubolts to prevent rusting. Looking forward to putting mine on soon to give my Jeep a more "offroad" look.
It looks like you've had this for a year or so. Any complaints? I heard the hardware isn't the best and that most people end up rhino lining them. I bought one today, wondering if I should go through the trouble of rhino lining it and sourcing some different hardware. Someone on FB suggested using rivets. Any thoughts?
Great vids. I went out and bought the same Freight Harbor roof basket. You helped make the decision easy for me, so huge thank you. Btw….in your video you threw away the rubber plugs,,,,but those actually go over the top of the screws.
Thank you! glad to hear it helped you out. I actually installed the rubber sleeves over the screws. what I threw away was plastic ends, just packaging protection
@@PatrickKasilag The plastic ends were plugs that go over the thread of the u-bolts on top of the rack. If you watch similar installs of this rack here you youtube, you will see how they were used.
Fixed my dealers botched install. You’d think they could do 2 measurements and tighten. Apparently that’s too hard when you move cars fast. 😅 front ones were completely loose and the back ones were pushed 8 inches forward. I thought they looked funny when we drove off the lot. Lol
Unfortunately you can not always rely on them to hire all great technicians. It just takes one careless tech and a bad luck of the draw and you'll end up with a loose rack or loose lug nuts..
One more grass cutting and I'll get my basket. I'll be installing an 64" length by 39" wide and 8" deep."Suggestion":> I'm going to secure some black plastic corticated board to the bottom of my basket. No sun will hit the roof then. Just an idea.....🏹🤠👍
Just curious if you get rain rust running down the tubes. Usually cheap roof baskets will do that. Which is why I used clear silicone to cover the joints then used truck liner. Never had rain rust for many years and if I do see some I just silicone the joint. Probably did it once or twice. But overall don't get rain rust anymore. I keep them on year round. Love the look even though I don't have a crosstrek. Nice ride!

Hey Patrick, question for you I bought crossbars and Thule cargo basket from different people crossbars fit on my 2022 crosstrek but the cargo basket doesn’t have the correct mounting brackets any way I can get the correct ones to fit the crossbars.
Do you know the distance between the cross bars from center to center? I want to add the basket to my crossbars, but they are fixed and do no adjust forward/backwards. Thanks!
I just bought one of these baskets. After perusing the instructions, it states on page 3 under section 15 of the Use Precautions: "maintain product labels and nameplates. These carry important safety information..." One of the first things you did was to remove the labels. I think they'll come off soon enough without the user's help.
Im getting the 2023 Crosstrek sport next week. So I have some noob questions to ask. Does having the roof rack create a lot of noise when driving down the highway? Also did you ever put lights on the rack yet?
Not a very noob question, very good one actually. Yes, noticeable when going on highway 65+ MPH and on windy days. I have not added lighting on it yet, though I may pretty soon

Wife bought me a long Fender Guitar plate that I installed over the H.Master decal... Recently, l was approached by an individual asking where l bought the Fender rack, and if a Gibson rack was available ... Too Funny 😅😅😅😅 Oh, also purchased HB freight $5 (5'*7') poly tarp and $8 orange straps 4 pack ... Less than $100 for everything 😉😉😉. Our camp chairs , hammocks, tool bag, fishing gear, and canopy fits perfectly inside basket without looking like homeless people 😔😔😔😊😊😊
I'm sure you can. Is yours the Legacy sedan? Are you just trying to put a roof rack on it? Just asking because different cross bars have different weight limit capacities.
I bought this and assembly was hell. The screws did not fit the holes. They never explained in the instructions why the sleeves were there. They never explained that the caps that were on the sleeves were later supposed to be installed over the screws. And it’s way harder if you’ve already installed the roof rails on your Forrester, which is way higher than a Crosstrek.

The rack came with these rubber sleeves that prevent that from happening. So far so good though!

I wouldn’t say they come off easy considering he had to use a hot gun to remove the adhesive so that adhesive is probably pretty strong

When I go about 60-70MPH yeah some. Don’t really notice it when music is on and windows are up though. About similar noise to terrain tires

Maybe a little bit, yes. But mostly noticeable when you are going over 70 MPH constantly. slower speeds not really
