just a couple more steps are you're right with there with the Trident missile... all you need now is a RC submarine and a pool and you'll have recreated America's most feared nuclear deterrent in teeny tiny scale lol
I'm sure you could turn a raspberry pi or something into a rudimentary guidance system, at least so the little Tridents have a consistent-ish flight path....
I was going to say something similar. I’d not appreciate hearing the noise or have rockets land in my backyard or get stuck on my roof if I was a neighbour. How about showing some consideration for others and find a big field to launch from?
@@ChrisGWarp neighboorslike that are boring. Why are you watching? Did you turn your volume down? Thank you ! , I almost didn't post it because I felt it was just so-so and I didn't put enough effort tbh but I'm going to do it better later. The top down look was the best one though.
Loved the top-down view, you see loads of slowmo cavitation and jets underwater on RUclips but to see it break the surface of still water was quite satisfying, thank you.
That was awesome...and a totally different reaction from what I was expecting...thanks very much....oh...i hope no rockets were harmed in the making of this video...
It would have been interesting to see both a rocket in the water and rocket dry launch simultaneously in slow-motion. Thanks for putting this together.
What I love most about your videos is how unexpected they are. I would have never thought of launching a rocket from under water, but it seems interesting to just think about. Seeing it is also really cool, but I am actually more interested in the real life applications of this after seeing it. I wonder if this would make rocket launches more stable?
Thanks 4 this, had the same idea only launched from a silo inside model submarine. My youngest son knows what it takes to have fire 1. fuel 2. heat 3. oxygen. My children & I thanks you 4 this, we've been amateur rocket maniacs in years past Your experiments brings this all back what rush. Thanx a bunch and cudos 2 you sir.
Tbh ... I just thought it was okay, like I had mentioned in the live stream that I saw you in last, now I'm not cutting any more corners I'm doing everything legit, a lot of these videos we ended up starting really late in the day didn't light it properly etc, it honestly could have been like way more awesome. but the only good thing that came out of not working for the last 3 weeks is it's giving me a lot of time to think and reflect and clear my mind to focus on what's important.
Interesting place for launching model rockets, between garages, under powerlines and trees. But a nice video, though. Looks cool when it breaks trough the water surface!
This was SOOO COOL!! If you ever do this again you should do it with a bigger rocket like a home made sugar rocket and launch it from inside a swimming pool! Maybe team up with Backyard Scientist since he is always pouring liquid salt in his parents pool...LOL I think its really interesting because rockets work because the chamber pressure is greater than ambient pressure and underwater affects that ambient pressure a lot more than atmospheric pressure. :-D So a deeper underwater launch would be interesting. As in how deep could you launch it from?
Yeah it's a good idea, that's mainly why I put this video out, it really wasn't done that well tbh, but I wanted to see if people are interested in it, if they are I will do it 10 times better and bigger, and around the time that I filmed this I had way too many things on my mind.
Would be great to see a launch from underwater a side of a conventional launch, both at same time. I think the acceleration would be different... Excited to see that!
Absolutely cool, Matt! I have shot lots of fireworks under water and a horizontal trajectory can be sketchy but fun. No good way to do that in a tank in your alley. At least if I hear about the Great Chicago fire of 2020 started on the Southside I know it's not Mrs. O'Leary's poor cow or her knocking over the lamp. I will say, "I have no idea how that started but I bet it was cool!". Imagine another 100+ years of speculation like the last one.
Get in an Olympic size swimming pool and put braided fishing line from one side to the other, put the fishing line through the launch lugs and send it from one side of the pool to the other with the entire launch under water. Fire video.
Gosh, I did that in about 1973. I was enamored with making a Polaris missle and firing it from underwater. I used a steel tube and a rocket with no fins. I fired it in a lake in MN and it looked great coming out of the water. However, no fins does not make a straight flying vehicle. I used modeling clay as the sealant for the igniter.
“By carefully modifying an aquarium” *hits it with a hammer
"Oh shit i can't show this"
He did remember to wear gloves 😉
I would have thought he would have used a glass cutter or a industrial diamond glass cutting wheel. But the hammer worked just as well.
it's not a matter of using a hammer but KNOWING HOW to use it right! xD
@POF415 lol you're right! In Spanish z the phrase is "know how" but yes in English is "where" xD
You "nailed" it. Hahaha

Your neighbors have to be like... What the heck is he doing now.
"is he launching nuclear missiles from his backyard?!"
The neighbors were waiting to see him get electrocuted if the rocket's chute got snagged on the powerlines.
I was going to say something similar.

Next episode: Launching a Model Rocket Into Water
You just hear a whoosh followed by a big ol *sploosh*
I second this idea.
Also, perhaps a 3rd episode, Model Rocket Launch Torpedo Style, horizontal launching to see how far it goes.
Episode 4 "Cold Launch Underwater Rocket Ejector"
Episode 5 (Hobby) ICBM Submarine
I did that with bottle rockets launched into cattle watering tanks!!!....LOL!!!
Wow, the top down look of it breaking the surface is so interesting! You have such unique ideas. :)

5:20 pretty smart how you made the background of the picture the sidebars, i didnt even notice until then
