Such a corrupt industry. Got interested in trucking because of the demand. Once I graduated, I found out there are thousands of truck drivers leaving the industry. I remember getting screamed at because I took my truck off the road to get a blown tire replaced. Boss said I had other tires on the truck.

I've been on a sabbatical for 8 months. About to take a job dump trucking. Sometimes I miss the road and the good moments, but I know how many stressful times are intertwined to the good times. My last company showed no appreciation for the hundreds and hundreds of on time loads. All the policies I followed. None of it mattered in the end, if you stand your ground for safety sake you are looked down on. If they would have showed appreciation and respect for me I'd have gone back. But no matter how much you do, your not family. You are just a number and an ass in a seat.

Thank you for sharing your experience. There certainly is a huge lack of appreciation for truck drivers. But from one trucker to another I appreciate your trucking service. I hope the new job works out 👍🏼

This line of work has no future. It’s not like anything it used to be prior to deregulation. Pay is bad, long periods on the road, devastating for those in a relationship or with young family. And truckers are looked down as a whole, no gratitude for the vital service they provide. For me it’s different. I’m retired, kids are grown, wife is passed on and just started in OTR with a mega carrier. My intention is to start a hotshot business once I get a feel of the road life. Thanks for the post.

    I'm at Crete. I think.
You used to work there from what I remember. Even over here, though were they claimed they're the best, they still have their flawhen. The bottom line is not the driver.
Only profit.. I don't like their policy where they don't pay the Truck driver if he is going on home time and his last move with his trailers to get his trailer to the next loading spot before you bob tail home that is unpaid. Even if it's a 100 or 200 miles or more, it is unpaid miles.Even though you're doing it for the company. I don't know if this is a common practice with all companies but it's a rip off

This is absolutely a great point! All miles should be paid. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I cant believe i keep wasting my time watching all these worthless RUclips videos about trucking. Nobody ever talks about the absolute disrespect and abuse we take from shippers and receivers. They dont stick to appointments and they take hours to do a 15 minute job of loading and unloading a truck. Detention pay and layover pay is a myth. If you do get it you never get all of it. You dont even know how much was paid to you because the money is sent to your company and then they take most of the money. There is no transparency! Why doesnt anyone ever complain about the shippers and receivers? The trucking companies dont even care what their drivers are going through. When you complain they always say that the other drivers aren't having any problems. And there is no driver shortage problem. It is a driver retention problem!

Absolutely a great point! Detention is just a small way companies try to say they are helping a truck driver but in reality we want to accomplish enough miles instead. Shippers and receivers are definitely a challenge too! Thanks for sharing your trucking thoughts.
