@@heroicdragon i feel like i never understood wtf fruity compressor did and how to use it effectively, and the eq explanation was rlly good on how to take out the bad frequencies
Thanks bro, when you want to start taking your mixes to the next level I suggest watching mastering.com, they give like 10 hour courses on stuff like compression and eq lol
Hey, I'm actually really surprised for once. Me and my buddies blind watch mixing tutorials as a drinking game where everytime the person says something ridiculously stupid, you take a shot. (it gets you shitfaced in no time usually) So this one caught us by surprise since you actually explained things really well, and your chain and knowledge are pretty solid. I'd still like to give some criticism, though. First of all, taking out resonating frequencies with notch filters can make a huge difference, but you shouldn't actively search for them. Boosting any frequency with a notch will make it sound terrible. My recommendation would be to only cut out harsh resonances you can actually perceive as being problematic without looking for them. Also, using a dynamic EQ might give you an even better result. If you notice a lot of problematic frequencies in one tight area, using a brought bell to just attenuate the area as a whole might be the right move. Your compressor section was really nice. One thing I'd add just as a little bonus for you to mess around with would be to keep the attack time in mind. increasing the attack can make the vocals punch through the mix in a nice and subtle way. If you work with fast rap vocals, a slower attack might help the individual sibilance to be more understandable, and the vocal to sound more natural, even with a lot of compression. Just mess around with the attack and really try to focus on the subtle difference it can make when finetuned. (this isn't as important with singing) Now, a big suggestion I have would be to get rid of the soundgoodizer. If you'd like a similar effect but with more control, go for a saturation plugin. I myself like camel crusher since it also lets you compress the vocals some more, similar to the soundgoodizer, but with a lot more control over the overall compression and saturation separately. Another free option would be saturation knob, which has a nice sound, especially on vocals, in my opinion. Notice how, in the soundgoodizer bypass you did, the vocals got a LOT louder. This increase in loudness will fool your ears into thinking it's automatically better. This is why I personally like camel crusher the most as a free option because it has a master gain knob which makes it possible to easily volume match the vocals to hear exactly what's going on. Overall, I'd say that you are actually really close to having an amazing vocal chain. It's just those last 15% I'd urge you to explore. If you have any questions or would like me to get into more detail about anything, let me know. Keep up the grind, and most importantly, continue having fun.
fire content bro i definitely learned some new things for workflow, around 3:44 is the notch filtering section, id recommend using the FREQ knobs and gain meters on the right, rather than moving the numbered points on the graph. Doing it like this means you wont accidentally change the frequency of the notch when reducing its gain. On some surgical EQ shi 😂 Love bro 🔥🔥
Also 4:51 - compression just decreases the difference beetween loudest & quitest part of audio treck, increasing LUFS which makes your track to seem louder , it has nothing to do with clipping
W tip at the end whare you said to find an artist's raw vocals and practice mixing, however what I'd recommend is this. Record your own vocals and practice on that because at the end of the day, you have to mix your own vocals not juice wrld's... And these bigger artists be using $10,000 mic w analog gear to record their stuff, so the vocal chain which might work for them might not work for you.. Awesome Content btw 🔥💯⛈ I'm subbed, hope to see more of these and how to create Content as a rapper;)
@@heroicdragon Yeah, take your time. An example of this would be what I'm kind of doing on my funneling IG. It's somewhat combining anime, memes, and my music. Let me know what you think. I'll reach you you out there
4:10, bro is just filtering all of the necessary frequencies. "Removing resonances" - is in 90% of cases will just make worse, especially in your vocal, since it basically consist of different resonances(coming from your throat, mouth, skull etc.). Its just ruins consistenty, readability & colour
@@missing_RF it's alright, through this vid I realised I only know one way of mixing. There are many ways to mix something, I know the basics I can build off of that now.
Hey man, nice video, really cool editing! However, the stuff you are talking about is mostly just semi-information, that is not really accurate and sometimes wrong. This can be harmful to new musicians. So pls spend more time informing yourself about topics you end up making videos about.
@@heroicdragon Nice. Also i recommend watching long videos about the individual effects. There is like a 8 hour long video just about compressors. It may seem like much, but watching such a video is eye opening. Also if you have questions about mixing, just feel free to ask. I am currently getting my diploma in audio engineering. i know what i am talking about.
@LukasWirz message me on discord, fr input from professionals combined with this video format together we will be able to properly teach mixing to the people watching. I'm currently watching the mastering.com 10 hour compression course lol
I wanted to click off the video as soon as I saw the first step, but I’m leaving feedback. Do NOT do that. That “sound” will happen no matter what frequency you boost with a tight Q like that, so by that logic you might as well remove the vocal. What you’re doing is removing unnecessary frequencies and taking away the main “body” of the vocals. Everything else does seem pretty okay however, nice editing too
respectfully, you are not qualified to teach this process. you're leaving out tons of nuance and, at times, giving extremely poor advice. you preach the importance of habitualization and practice when in reality you've internalizing a "one size fits all" pathway you take to every vocal you mix, which is littered with negligence. if you truly care, i beg you please do better before you offer advice in such a digestible format. this type of content is extremely unhelpful to the newer kids tryna learn
This is the most common way I see people mixing vocals in this niche. Thats not to say people can't start experimenting on their own and start making their own adjustments. Just for future reference, would you mind letting me know how teach it to a beginner? I'm open to any constructice criticism :}

The irony of making a video about mixing and then making your bg music so loud we can bearly hear your voice. But keep going
i observed many producers ignore this part and its weird, considering audio is their niche
