French open stadium seats are nearly sold out for the tournament. If the French open happened this week, these players would be seeded exactly the same numbers. The status of the grand slams and their importance makes a HUGE difference for ticket sales
Bertens plays like a rock star on clay. I'm hoping she takes this trophy home
Kiki has really grown on me. For ages i never found her that interesting. But seeing her reach such a peak every clay season is astonishing. That topspin forehand is incredible. And she's showing here that she can beat the big players which she hasn't always done. I don't like to predict, but surely Kiki, Simona, Petra or Serena will win French. I don't see Osaka going 3 in a row.

Meanwhile, congratulations are in order for Bertens. Madrid Open Final - Halep vs Bertens. They have played each other on clay surface twice, splitting the wins a couple of years ago. But, this is 2019 and Halep is clay court champion at the French Open. Of late, Bertens isn't playing too shabby, either.
Nothing against Bertens, but I want to see Halep lift that Madrid Open trophy and regain that #1 ranking. I am just loving Halep's #Heart #Fight and #NeverSayDie attitude!!

Can't she just take that #1 spot next tournament? I know she's got a lot of points to defend but perhaps if she wins it? Then Kiki can win this one, she's fought so hard for it beating Kvitova convincingly and just missing out last year. If Halep ends up winning this one it's almost like Bertens did all the hard work for her (RG 2017 champion Ostapenko, #1 in form and WTA Race Kvitova and Stephens, the 2018 RG runner-up). Rome suits her game more anyway, it being a slower court with lower bounces. If Halep wins Rome, Osaka can advance one more round than last year and Halep will still be nr.1. That means Osaka can't pass R3, so she'll have to lose to one of Ostapenko, Görges or Hsieh, which isn't entirely out of the question (she wasn't really tested here in Madrid anyway, and the higher bounce probably suits her game better). I'd say Ostapenko has a chance. And there is the possibility that Hsieh could outclever them all on a slow court where winners and a powergame are less effective and it's more about staying in the rally. Perhaps Görges can finally get out of her slump.

Kiki is such a darling and a sweet lady ....she has majority of wins on top 10 players but at the end of day what matters is how many titles you won ...she has been playing incredibly consistent against them but she really needs a big break...oh God bless her with a title this time
God Sloane frustrates me. She is naturally athletic, but you can tell that she doesn't train well. It shows in her body. She could be so amazing if she would stop being so latsidasical

Based on these highlights, it seems like Bertens took Stevens' power away from her with heavy looping top spins! Excellent strategy against a power hitter. I'm curious what her coach will have her do against Halep!
Yes, Kiki has power too, but she probably knew it was better not to try to match power for power and decide to play a more varied and strategic match against Sloane.

Such a pleasant sight: 2 ladies not grunting and screaming on every hit, proving it's absolutely unnecessary to do so.
Turn down the sound n watch the match. The comments are not worth listening to anyway. Sometimes the commentary is worst than the grunts. The release of pent up emotions emitted through grunts can release stress n prevent the problems associated with blood pressure. Be considerate.

It was a hard match she said.
She said in an interview that she was still very tired from the previous match and that her body actually needed some rest. So yeah it was a hard fought, emotional win because of that.

@@rubenvannijnatten: Well, I didn't see the whole match. In the highlights it looked like late in the 2nd set Bertens was just keeping Sloane in the points until she screwed it up. I know Sloane is noted for her pusher abilities too, but often with an element of surprise.

If you watch tennis you would know that Kiki isn’t known as a pusher, sure she has good defense and when under pressure she uses these abilities, but commenting “pusher power” over a 6 minute highlight just sounds ignorant tbh
