the shoes are amazing, great grip of the outsole and a great midsole! the only drawback, the heel slippage that I encountered (I'm not the only one). Having done 440k in these, my right heel is like dancing (vertically and horizontally) on the stable base of the react midsole. This caused an tendon irritation between my heel and the inner ankle (not an achilles issue). I returned back to my epic reacts for a couple of sessions plus some rest and this helped me a bit. Now, what I have done, I changed the insoles with another pair and modified the lacing by surpassing the middle two holes (the second issue that I had, tightening the laces to make the heel more secure, irritated my metatarsal of both feet). Nike has to listen to the heel slippage issue!
Taren: Gotta agree with your question about what took so long to do this. I'm also a bit confused about the paradox of flex grooves in the forefoot of so many shoes (for so long) for flexibility and less foot strain and the stiffness of carbon/PU plates for propulsion. Methinks the ever-present marketing influence (think minimalist shoes a few years back and now maximalist shoes) drives much of this. Gotta always create a demand for "something new". Hopefully the industry is actually making progress in its knowledge of foot/body bio-mechanics and that will allow more people to exercise more often/longer with fewer injuries. I think the mid-sole improvements in the past 4 or so years (probably starting with Adidas' Boost) have been significant. and helpful. Stay safe and healthy.....run strong!
