The symbol on his back and all the characters is called resonator symbols which give them there powers and if you notice the gourd shape thing on his hips that's where the echos or monsters you used for battle or you can become the monsters you kill
The rain falling upwards is called retroact rain and happens generally before a large outbreak of powerful Tacet Discords (The Monsters), coming into contact with it causes you to see phantom illusions of the past, especially if bloodshed took place there or if you have a deep history in that area. The mark on his back that looks like a sound Wavelength is his resonance mark. Everyone who has powers has one of these somewhere on their person. WuWa actually barrows heavily from music, with many of its abilities and terminology having musical roots. Characters are called Resonators, and you have Intro's, Outro's, Forte's, and all number of things lol. Example: There is a 4* character named Mortefi who's skills called Violent Finale, and it applies a debuff called Burning Rhapsody that triggers Marcato's on other characters attacks lol.
11:30 He is Geshu Lin - the former general of the Midnight Rangers, preceding Jiyan. He fought a difficult battle and many of his men were killed. He won, but was considered evil. For now, little is known about him in the plot. The black mark that Jiyan has on his back is the sign - resonators - i.e. all playable characters. This game is inspired by sound waves and nature and the characters gain their power from "resonating". Each character has such a sign, but in different places on the body.
If I recall correctly, General Geshu went missing in the final suicide charge against that Threnodian, didn't he? Unless I'm mistaken, he's hated _posthumously_ as far as anyone else is aware (although he'll almost certainly turn up at some point cause like, just look at the quality of his model, right?).
I have a hunch that Geshu isn't as bad as what he is portrayed to be - every time we see him it is through the lens of someone else, be it in the trailer or in the game in the form of an illusion. We don't actually know of his backstory, or of how he disappeared/was defeated. He might just have been misunderstood.
Transitions between cutscenes and in-game graphics are absolutely smooth in WuWa because the in-game graphics are just that gorgeous to begin with. As for story, it starts a little rough, there's some cool scenes at the beginning and then there's a MASSIVE lore drop that pretty much fails to grab the attention of anyone who isn't already interested in the WuWa lore. It does pick up and get very good later, but especially Chapter 2... is basically just pure lore drop xD
The characters in engine are EXTREMELY expressive. Hoyo stepped up how expressive their in engine characters are with Fontaine and even more so with Star Rail, and Kuro with WuWa puts them to shame. You can tell every character's personality just by looking at how they move and their facial expressions, each one having unique poses and movements. On top of that, the models aren't cookie cutter "adult male, young female" style of models. Every character has unique bodies and facial structures from each other. Kuro took Genshin's style and built it to be completely separate with their own touches.
As additional exposition, this character is the current general of the main country's army. His opponent was the former general. The rain that is falling upwards, the retroact rain, causes phantom echoes from the past to manifest. The previous general died (or was assumed to have died) in an apocalyptic battle where he was determined to win at any cost, resulting in a massive loss of life of his soldiers. Jiyan the new General fought it that battle, and stepped up fighting to save the lives of his comrades, and now leads to protect his soldiers, as his predecessor sacrificed them.
He's a general who's been trough a lot. I love him. He has a strong side and a softer side. I really resonate with him. Also his voice is appealing to me. Strong and poised. 🙏 Great react! I loved it! Kuro is gradually rising in quality with each trailer. These look phenomenal! 👏
Do try WuWa if you have the time. Many bugs and other issues have been fixed and things are running smoothly now. The gameplay/battle mechanics are fun. If you want to try Jiyan out, you can still get him in the next 4 days IIRC. The game has been very generous so far, so you should have enough to try.
They're on an old battlefield where they barely held back the tacet discords and General Geshu was presumed to have died there. It's hard to tell if this an illusion or happening in Jiyan's mind or else Geshu actually somehow survived then switched sides.
I'm so excited when you get to Xiangli Yao (Shahng-Lee Yao) 20:00 agh Jiyan's expression.... in Hoyo games there's alot of times I have to imagine how the characters are feelings and... it doesn't happen as much in Wuwa (Kuro) which makes me so happy
Boo! Hello, I'll explain everything in bite-sized information! The upside-down rain is "retroact rain", it only occurs when the area is plagued with monsters. The mark on his back is a resonance mark, which only appears on people who have special abilities. It also glows when the character uses their ultimate ability. The white-haired guy is General Geshu, he was the previous General of the army before Jiyan. He's not playable and we haven't gotten any confirmation on him so *sigh*, he's also very much not evil, just morally grey. The swords on the floor represent the dead soldiers that Jiyan was entrusted to protect. The dragon symbol in the background- when the cool cuts happen- is also the crest of the dragon, Jué, who is the protector of the city. Also, at the end when you said he looked content when he "came to terms with a character he couldn’t save", you were actually spot on! He had lost many soldiers in battle, no one in specific, but I believe that is the weight that was lifted off his chest.
A great reaction and analysis and i hope u do more of them! The character demo for Yinlin also came out yesterday and its a masterpiece as well. So, Kuro games, the devs also made Punishing Gray Raven, another gacha game very known for its great combat and boss music and u can really see that in Wuthering Waves, the combat is great and really relies on your skill if u want to get it all. For example, there are monsters walking about that are like level 110(max character level is 90 i think) that can 1 shot u but u can take them down just by dodging and parrying well. I strongly recommend the game, it had a rough launch but they worked hard to fix it all and the game is really worth it.
There's this dude in this game that looks nearly pretty much like Sephiroth. His name is Calcharo. He plays like Vergil mixed with elements of Sephiroth aswell. He also has a stand too.
I’m pretty sure his old character name was kakarot or something like that and I heard it was the Chinese name for Goku which would have made calcharo a walking reference to other media
Wuthering Waves is a very fun game to play. Its first half of the main story is a bit rough, though I'd argue not any worse than many gacha game starts, the second half picks up a lot. Unfortunately, the english VA work does suffer from poor or rushed direction. One of the main characters, Yangyang, is the worst example of this. However, as shown in this trailer, other characters were voiced well. I definitely think it's worth trying
So that guy who was fighting Jiyan was also a general, as Jiyan called him General Geshu. I don’t know the lore, but maybe Geshu was the general before Jiyan and sees Jiyan as unworthy of being a general.
Yes,geshu was his predecessor. However, the geshulin he was talking to is merely an illusion. I think it's his imposter syndrome talking rather than the real deal
(Presumably) Genshu Lin is dead, and that was an illusion of him made by the retroact rain If we go off the fact that the rain and tc’s react to strong emotion this could be Jiyan’s self esteem talking to him.don’t think it’s ever said if the person specifically needs to be dead to be formed from the rain (if it’s said somewhere, please correct me,the quest was very confusing)
Oooh awesome that you're covering WuWa content too. I'd love to see what you say about the release trailer, as i felt it was very well done and very dynamic.
Loving your reactions, seen a lot of your videos on my recommended both Genshin and Honkai Star Rail! Great Reactions and breakdowns - Give me more reasons to love characters and seeing your passion! Got a new sub :)
Wuwa is such a great game and kudos to kuro games the developers this games is fcking amazing wall run or dash grappling hook double jumps and many more parry and dodges
Other gacha games have had promotional videos/materials for characters but yeah I think honkai impact 3rd was the first to do it in this format and style you're referring to.
Ya know, I'm actually impressed that you pronouncing his name as John makes sense. Cuz saying Ji-Yahn fast enough is just John. Unfortunate that his name is not pronounced that way lol Oh no I forgot this was when the voice direction was not good. The acting was good in most cases, but oof to the pronunciations by the characters
its fine now,, i am playing on pc and never had any issues but my friends who play on mobile say the game runs fine now..., except a few stutters sometimes which is negligible tbh

I would love to watch you play wuthering waves.. if you planning stream gameplay I bet so many people would enjoy it as well.

also playing/fighting in this game feels rhythmic like parry dodge movement attack transitions etc.
very cool comment btw. learned new things.

Totally love Jiyan's design. He's the reason why i started this game. Kuro did a great job with his Resonator showcase.

He's also voiced by Sephiroth's JP VA. Kuro W with that casting and character inspo.
