- Turia Pitt, an elite athlete, former model and mining engineer, was burned over 65 percent of her body when a freak firestorm trapped her and another runner participating in a 100 kilometer ultra-marathon in the Australian outback. Turia received MTF skin to help heal burns.

The person he fell in love with was still there 100% beyond the scars and as he has explained, he is flabbergasted how anyone would think he wouldn't have stuck with her BECAUSE of that exact reason.
Valerie Switzer -- In my view it's quite innacurate to say that a woman is so much more expected to remain loyal to a man who has suffered this type of physical deformity in comparison to a man. If any relationship is not built on true love and adoration for one another, a tragedy like this will almost always result in the partner leaving. The relationship will crumble if their connection is based around sex and solely on a physical attraction.... regardless of the gender. Any man who has a TRULY loving bond and a strong mental connection with a woman will never leave her in result of a tragic physical change such as what happened here.

I was burned 55% of my body when I was 4yrs old ....My dress caught fire...I was in the hospital 3 months with skin grafts and blood transfusions...it didn't reach my face but there is a scar on the back of my neck where it almost did...They let my arm grow down to my sides so I could raise the high...surgery has fixed that..I had a belt that melted around my stomach...Surgery has help that...I have two daughters...I am married to a sweet loving man and I am blessed...The Lord is good...And I truly love how Teria has comes so far in her recovery...
My GF is going through this as well...35 percent of her body is covered in 2nd and 3rd degree burns. This gives me hope. And I'm the same as this guy. I'm not going anywhere, I'm going to get my girl through this.

Every time I find myself complaining about something trivial, or taking things for granted, I am going to try and remind myself of this video. These two people are just amazing. To have such a terrible thing happen and yet overcome it and be focusing on the positive things - truly inspiring.
I can't believe she didn't realize how badly she was burned. Must have been shock. How she endured the pain and all her surgeries is truly amazing. Very strong and intelligent lady.
When burns are that bad you don't feel pain the nerves die. That's why she did not think it was that bad. She was also highly medicated.
Exactly. Burns that deep kill the nerve endings and there's no pain.

After my mother passed, we were unable to donate any organs (due to medications and her advanced age). But we were able to donate skin. We were comforted for doing this -- Mom was such a generous and loving person, and we knew it was the right thing to do.

Fe Nix I don't think you ever fully solve the problem. I think there's a battle in your mind until the day you die. Somedays you win somedays you don't. Hopefully as you grow older the good days outnumber the bad and I think that happens with gratitude. Being thankful to experience even the terrible things in life. "Thank you Lord for this terrible day I'm having, many would love to have my problems at the moment". And thinking of others as often as possible. If you focus on others you won't dwell on yourself. I'm as selfish as anyone (maybe more so) but at least I can see the flaw and work towards being a better person.
I can't help but to cry. Knowing how much pain you went though breaks my heart. You are so inspiring and I hope to achieve your mindset one day.

Your story goes deeper for me than your burns. The agony I put myself through with my depression is unbearable but no more. Your story is painful to watch and to listen to but your scars are a reminder that life lives on and that each day is worth living. Thank you love. Keep fighting. You're beautiful!!! She has the best in a partner than anyone can ever ask for. It is sad when someone gets disfigured for life, how quickly they find their partner cannot deal with your scars and walks, so I am beyond happy for er that she found a loyal loving man.

I had a burn on my foot that required a skin graft from my calf of about 20 sq. in.
The pain from the burn was nothing compared to the pain from the graft area.
It was two weeks of the most extraordinary pain I have ever known.
Still, I cannot imagine the agony you have endured.
You are truly beautiful.

And I find it amazing that their government moved quickly enough to pass the skin thru customs in time to save her life - literally in hours.

Lovelyloi Kevin van Etten if he cried & vomited every time he did his job we’d all be dead in our own poop in a dirt hole somewhere. We would have no medical advances. No tough treatments. No experimental breakthroughs in medicine. I understand that the subject of that article may have been awful, but don’t condemn him for doing what he was trained to do & feeling how he was trained to feel. When you cook a chicken do you mourn for it? No. You just cook it. If I had to skin an animal would I mourn for it? Hell Yes! Because I’ve never done it. I’m not accustomed to it. He is. I assume most well trained & qualified medical professionals HAVE to have a mindset pretty similar to this just to do their job. Otherwise they’d all go mad. 🤷♀️
Sometimes customs has to cause its from a dead persons skin. It can be disease can spread. Or skin can come from pig skin.

I admire Michael and Turia so much. The incredible support from her family and loved ones, and people of the world who pray for her. On a personal note, my late husband Fred donated his tissues in honor of his student Daniel of Calexico, CA, a burn survivor. Organ and tissue donation is an incredible gift to someone's future.

Yes, he is, but before the fire they were equally attractive. Its amazing what the surgeons have done for her. She is not bad to look at now at all. I have no doubt she will, one day, be almost what she was. Both of them are amazing people.
@@patharbin854 Unfortunately she will never look remotely like what she used to. I worked in a burn unit it just don't happen but she is still lovely with soft eyes and a great personality. She is one of the bravest women on the planet I admire her greatly. She had children now 😊🤗😊

The host tracked down the wealthy Husband and Wife team who are the organisers of the marathon, they ignored this victim and refused to admit to any fault ! Zero compassion , in it purely for all the money ! Why is everyone just saying “sorry what this couple have to go through” BUT people around the world still throwing money to the organisers to join their marathons?!!!! Why didn’t everyone come together and start a protest for this couple against the organisers?!!

This girl has a stunning man that adores her. Her life, burns or no burns, is so much more blessed than many. I can see what a physically beautiful woman she was and still is, but now we can see what a beautiful spirit she has as well.

This woman is beyond inspirational! To see what she has been through and to be able to keep such a positive outlook on the future is deeply touching. The fact that she has the strength to realize not every day is going to be perfect that some are just going to be crap and you don't have to put on a false happy facade just own your feelings and look forward to a better tomorrow takes some real strength and courage that most mortals don't possess. Turia you are truly a gift to this world someone that everyone can learn from you really are an angel on earth. Micheal you are what a real man should be and all other men on this planet should take some cues from you.
I was just speechless after watching this. The grace and courage and strength sown by Turia is beyond amazing. Her fiance’ is an amazing human being. The depth if his character and integrity is evident in his love for her. So many would have not stayed in the relationship for superficial reasons. Her life is rich in the most important ways. when I was 17 I experienced a third burn from a bonfire that burnt the entirety of my right arm all the way to the elbow. Turia and her husband inspire to continue on as a burn victim ( although it is difficult for me to describe myself as a victim OR survivor). My scars don’t define me and that’s the best lesson I’ve ever learned. Thank you turia and michael!

There is an expression, "BEAUTY IS ONLY SKIN DEEP," Turia Pitt's beauty comes straight from the soul. I admire her partner Michael for his love and devotion, the courage to help push her and be there for her. I fell that must have hurt him as much as the burns hurt her, they did it together Learning of Turia Pitt, has changed my thoughts I'm being a donor. I have all negative blood and I thought this is the only thing that I could share to help to save others lives is my blood. I cannot donate my kidneys because they're diseased so they would be of no value 21, I cannot donate my eyes because they can't even work for me, I cannot donate my heart because it is defective, once again I am always opted out is being a donator because I couldn't think of anything to give . After watching and learning of her history and the fact about to skin is what help to save her life when I renew my driver's license everybody will see that I have decided to become a donor. I've already decided that when I die that I would be cremated. So now in life as I'm living today I know that by becoming a donor, my skin, could help someone that is as deserving asTuria Pitt, she truly has inspired me, and she is now one of a few women that I can say, has touched my heart filled my soul, and I know that my spirit will live long after I'm gone.
So inspiring..her strength and courage is a testimony...They make a lovelycouple
