  • Lest you think that the science contained in this story is entirely imaginary, let us point out that one of the most mysterious electrical phenomena of which practically nothing is known is ball lightning. Here we have a phenomenon where electricity, for reasons not dearly understood, forms itself into a six to eight-inch fiery globe which sometimes moves slowly, other times with terrific speed. The ball may come in through an open window and move around leisurely. If it comes in contact with anything alive, like a human being or animal, it often kills them on the spot, leaving a strong sulfur odor behind. While, of course, ball lightning has no intelligence, and is, therefore, not "alive" in that sense, it still shows how little we know about electrical forces. The author of this tale has no doubt used electrical phenomena of this sort as the basis of this story, and he has woven an exceedingly moving pen-picture of what might happen when some electrical force becomes endowed with intelligence.

I always hit the "like" button.
This channel deserves to be much bigger.
On a separate note: very little is even now known about ball lightning, one of the most fascinating subjects I've tried to research. I think a Japanese research institute has managed to produce what they think is ball lighting, but it only laster for milliseconds.

Richard F. Searight: _"I'm going to make a cosmic horror story named after the genre."_
Readers: _"You can't do that, it'd be like naming a Western film 'Western Film'. You're insane."_
    Richard F. Searight: _"Watch me."_
Me: _"A surprising violation of conventions, to be sure, but a welcome one."_

In my Grandmother's house, my mother as a teen, saw one of these "balls" come through a window then roll across the floor and out another window..the burn trail was there for over 40 years...

Ball lightning has been known in many cases to pass through glass windows and affect the lights (if they are turned on) in houses and cars.
It's fascinating stuff, which in the early 1900s, many scientists believed was fake.

@@Boogie_the_catwe sure knew it was real! Didn't know that was what it was called but did realize that it was connected to lightning.. My Mother said that the house stunk of ozone for a while afterwards.. BTW this happened in central Florida.. lightning capitol of the world...

I dig the story selections on this channel. I consider myself fairly well aqua intend with Myrhos/cosmic horror writers and stories, but there's usually something new on this channel from time to time. (I was familiar with, but hadn't read, many, and some are completely new to me...)
Anyway, cheers! (I'm gonna save this one for tonight. My gal likes this channel, too, and may get sour if I listen without her...)

    Very well written and narrated.
    Clever and engaging dialogue.
Classic, worthy of Hp Lovecraft mythos , which is a difficult standard.
I agree with their theory about the mystery, logical reasoning.
    I’m assuming this is 1940era
Or 50s - which can explain why it’s so good, reminds me of Day of the trifreds meets the Jersey devil.

      @@cosmicandbodyhorror of course I know
      My favorite movie
      Iv watched it over 700x
Every night before I go to sleep
      Alien
Nostromos is the best place in the universe
I’ll take the alien trouble over the human troubles
      For sure
      All Alien movies are good
Even the ones nobody likes are really good
No political, religious symbols or mix race agenda or same sex bs
The original movies have likable characters, the later ones hatful as they started with the bs , so it was good to watch the aliens eat them
But this story is obviously the inspiration for Alien
And a lot better than B movies if it’s day, a serious attempt to raise the question- what if ?
And most likely, something very tough and without conscious morals would evolve faster.

It was good. I like the fear of underground. As a cave hou d i must say though that as soon as a cave system is found, people start mapping it. Nothing of interest is never said from a spelunking man.

Depends on if English is his first language or not. AI is great for translation, not creation….yet anyway because it’s not AI, just glorified amalgamation algorithms. True AI will seek out its own data, not be input dependent.
