RTX on, FPS off.
😅🤣
Lol
LOL! That's a good way of putting it.
Brilliant, you made my day !
That's original.
Tried it myself...
I really enjoy the smooth like butter 20fps gameplay
It runs like knife cutting through a frozen block of butter. So smooth!
on PC with a 3080ti and 3440x1440 you can get 50 fps! It's a HUGE difference on PC though. Looks better than any combination of mods I ever used pre update. Add DLSS and I can get 60+
Smooth like spreading butter with a brick!
@@Mustang1984 at 2560 x 1440 i can get 60 on my 3080 but only in certain scenes. Anywhere near novigrad it drops heavily. DLSS on auto.
@@Mustang1984 yeah that's not acceptable! A 3080 ti shouldn't be scratching 60 at 1440 with ai upscaling
It's beautiful, but not losing 2/3 of your fps beautiful. It has to be bugged or something, because that is way too huge of an fps hit.
The fact that Cyberpunk with ultra rt is more performant than Witcher 3 rt tells me they fucked up badly. Witcher 3 should have way higher fps
@@bobsteven2363 no. Cyberpunk probably is made with RT in mind from the start or at least when it was being developed. Here its just added afterwards
@@DTunezOfficial From my understanding, both games run on the same game engine. It appears that they simply ported the game to the updated game engine or perhaps simply added the raytracing module to the old game engine version. With that in mind, turning on raytracing should in theory have the exact fps loss on each game. Since Witcher 3 naturally has more than double the fps, you would assume it would have more fps than cyberpunk. But it doesn't. I love the witcher 3 and cyberpunk yet its okay to realize that the company behind it did a big L. I was excited for update only to realize that all it adds is the mods I was already using plus raytracing and botched performance
@@bobsteven2363 It really isn't. Witcher runs on equivalent of Cyberpunk's Psycho RTX preset, not ultra.
No it is not lol. It is Ray tracing. I cant even run it with it whilst I have 80 fps on ultra without it.
You are clueless
Interesting how light conditions have a huge effect: in broad daylight, the difference is barely noticeable, but for nighttime and in interior scenes, the improvement is spectacular. With reflective surfaces it's really quite staggering how realistic raytracing can be.
Getting from 120 fps to 50 wouldn't be worth it for me, but I'm looking forward to the W1 remake even more now.
I still don't care about RTX. We can have other alternative techniques instead which barely drop fps.
@@rayyanabdulwajid7681 same. The current performance hit will never be worth it
I thought some of the exterior shots looked noticeably better with rtx on
@@rayyanabdulwajid7681 Unfortunately we don't. CDPR removed HBAO+ from the game in the latest patch for some reason.
3080 60 fps

Water without RTX looks realistic. The reflection of trees and mountains is in every curvature of the waves.
But with RTX enabled, the reflection becomes flat, as if a water texture has been applied to a mirror.
Exactly what i thought, the RT implementation here is not good
This was a bug with the refraction not working properly. They fixed it in the recent 4.03 patch.
@@TI_MIOthis game literally has one of the best RT Implementations along with cyberpunk. You downvote the whole system just bc of one bug. It's not perfect, it's not path tracing. Lol.
As others have said, it's beautiful but not dropping from 100FPS to 50FPS on my 3080 beautiful. Something doesn't feel right because that's not the kind of hit I'd normally expect on my machine.
@N7 Andy No theres something else wrong, I have used it with launching DX11 and its completely broken. A game I was able to play the day before, now crashes constantly. I dont what the hell they did but they need to undo it.
My 3070 laptop goes from 80-90 fps to 25 fps with RTX on. It's not even close to being worth turning on.
@N7 Andy but if it's a wrapper, it will never be fixed completely, right? Only way is rewriting code as dx12
@@Nick-kw9oz I've had the opposite experience. It runs flawlessly for me in dx11 on my 6800xt. But dx12 is a stuttering broken mess, even w/o RT. Let's hope they fix it soon for everyone.
I got a 4090 for this update, but was actually shocked at how tough it is to run it maxed
You specially got a 4090, to play Witcher 3 next gen? Flexer! haha
Turn on DLSS Performance and Framegeneration and you should always have over 100fps. I have also a RTX 4090.
@@T.K.Wellington1996I'm honestly surprised how good DLSS performance looks. Haven't really dabbled with DLSS before getting an RTX 4080. Looks better than native resolution with FXAA. And yes, you need this to run the game somewhat well
@@Eburon Yes, DLSS performance looks good, especialy at 4K performance because the real internal resolution is at 1080p and that's a good high enough bass resolution for the upscaling algorithm.
Ray tracing does look beautiful, but losing 50-70 fps is just never worth it imo. Unless you are going for screenshots lol But for gameplay, I'll take the extra frames.
for that amount of FPS you could make a whole generation of polygons, CPU usage, particle effects and physics. anyone should want to choose that over raytracing. thats what differentiates gens. we should focus on that first.
minecraft is the only game worth turning on rtx for. Maybe Cyberpunk but even then...
I habe a RTX 4090. I have over 100fps in 4K but with DLSS and Framegeneration.
you have good eyes to choose the perfect scene for comparison good job !!
Вот так вот нужно показывать сравнение , спасибо
What a great comparison ❤
For some of these it really looks like two generations apart. Unfortunately, it runs like it aswell lol
The global illumination looks great sure, but the fps loss, while worth it if you still had playable frame rates, simply isn't currently. It would be nice to be able to enable the extra ray traced features though (reflections, shadows, ambient occlusion) WITHOUT the global illumination as those settings themselves didn't seem to harm the frame rates as much and, even the reflections alone DURASTICALLY change entire scenes.
The reason that turning on individual RT options doesn't tank the FPS further is because building the data structure for RT acceleration is most of the work, when you turn on RTGI, the structure is built, turning on more RT features doesn't increase this fixed cost. So as long as they don't optimize the whole RT pipeline, even if they let you use RT reflection without RTGI, you won't get any significant performance boost since your GPU still need to build the RT acceleration structure.
@@luoya5783 to be clear you don't mean gain a boost from turning on RT reflections without RTXGI but the fact that the reflections alone would be a more significant hit to performance if the groundwork wasn't already layed out by RTXGI?
@mhouchens262 No I mean that when you turn on just one of them your GPU needs to build the structure which accounts for most of the performance hit. The structure will then be used for all RT computations. So regardless of which specific RT features you want, the performance cost will more or less be the same.
@@luoya5783 ok yeah I understood the first time I think I just didn't clarify clearly. Thanks for the info.
yh i turned off ray tracing and run everything on ultra+ with dlss set to quality still looks amazing im not about to sacrifice 50 percent of my performance for better lighting
Are you showing the difference with and without rays, or did you just want to show off your config? The model of the processor cooler, power supply, computer case with a set of luminous coolers does not affect performance.
All that needed to be specified was the processor, the type of memory and its frequency, the video card and the resolution used.
can you make a video comparing TW3 Next Gen's directx 11 and 12 without ray tracing?
can`t say I´m a big fan of the water reflections with RT on, but the RTGI is amazing.
Great comparison. Simple and well picked shots. What resolution is this with the 3070ti?
1440p everything maxed out DLSS Quality.
The performance hit just isn't worth it. I tried playing at 35-45 fps with rt on for a while but the game feels so much smoother at 80+ fps that it makes up for the lost visuals. Dlss doesn't do anything either on this game fps wise
Use frame gen
@@RZLK-02 yeah because everyone has 40 series.
In a better universe that nvidia wasn't so greedy they would enable fram gen for 30 or even 20s
@@StainSocial RTX 3000 and 2000 don't have hardware for frame generation. And even RTX 4000 needs Nvidia Reflex force enabled for frame generation to not cause crazy stutters. It's kind of like reprojection mode in VR, but better, because in VR you can clearly see the reprojected frames are strange - that's what you get without hardware solution. I'm fine with my 3080 12GB for now, I don't need DLSS 3 until AAA titles on Unreal Engine 5.1 will start being released, and I mean titles that I will be actually interested in, cause I don't really care about most mainstream titles nowadays. I'm more hyped about indie games which do stuff different, not the games that do stuff in the same way over and over again. If I was to buy a better GPU, I'd do it only for better VR performance.
@@Kondiqq Nvidia said it works but cause bad performance. But then dont prove it. People would be happy if they show that really doesnt work that well in 30/20S cards
@@StainSocial frame generation is the same as dlss but a bit better and only for 4080,4090?
The soundtrack though 🥰
Biggest difference was in that number in top-centre of the page.
So turn the brightness down and use a shader mod is the way to go?
HI, thanks for the performance test, I'm downloading now game, don't even know what fps will I get on 3440*1440 with 5600x/16gb3200/rtx3070. GOTY with HDreworked project was getting around 90-120fps all the time. Complete edition I guess will get around 30 lol
Pretty good guess I'd say. It's also a stutter-fest.
@@WDeranged opened the game, max settings(max+, ssao high, all rtx). no dlss, 30fps, as I guessed, deleted it, its joke, not update that I've waited. 3-4 times less fps and it doesnt look 3-4 times better
My dude. Mod it with blitzfx, hd reworked, ultimatewaters, thyrons reshade, hd monsters pack. These few mods alone looks better than the update plus more fps friendly 😅
@@mr.niceguy2337 that's basically how i played original game, and i totally agree that mods look better then "complete edition"
Effectivement avec le RTX c'est 30 FPS mdr j'ai la même config un peu près
Great comparison
Tysm! Actually I happen to be one of your subscribers lol.
RTX is beautiful at 5 fps
Makes water look 100x better, but that's about all the benefits I see.
The sharpening filtre doesn't work as well as before and if you don't use dlss or TAA the game has a crispy weird effect , so overall the game looks more blurry for me because I have to use TAA or Dlss to avoid this strange effect. (I play at QHD) can someone relate ?
The game always suffered this crispy weird effect. Personally i think dlss fixed this problem
I have 7% Nvidia Sharpness+ filter on all my games by default. Helps with blurriness
If you don't want to use DLSS or RT, you should be better off playing the DX11 version. I think the 'crispy effect' you mentioned is because the game is converted to DX12 just to support RT and DLSS. When you turn it off, there is nothing left but a plain DX12 skin on a DX11 game, which isn't really that great. I think if you run the DX11 command, you get a better result in both FPS and screen detail, that is, if you don't want RT and DLSS effect running. DX11 isn't vanilla either, because it still benefits from the texture improvements from next gen update.
It's nice but not worth it atm. Performance is abysmal, even with DLSS turned on. Turning RT off means losing ambient oclussion as well, since HBAO+ is no longer available as an option.
I would personally recommend Pascal Gilchers RTGI shader for Reshade. It does nice job simulating ray traced GI (altough it uses screen space GI) at fraction of the performance compared to NVIDIA's RT. I would go as far to say it looks even better as you can fiddle with all the options and really make it your own. Only downside is that it bleeds through alpha textures like smoke and fog but it's not that noticable.
Check it out!
I knew it! So thats why the ao seems kind of off. I always used HBAO+ and then they removed it on this update that sucks
@Jakub Husenica i tried using nvidia's built in ssrtgi feature and the performance hit isnt as bad as well, i just dont know how it compares to pascal's
@@loner2509 how do you do that?
There is a separate option for Ray traced ambient occlusion though is there not? And with proper global illumination we wouldn't need ambient occlusion anyway as it only ever faked light rays being unable to reach corners where as global illumination actually simulates it natively.
@@ZeroChoices geforce experience from nvidia there are some filters u can add press

I love the realistic light casting on the RTX version. But I am not so fond of the color grading they have done with the RTX. Everything is so warm and yellow-ish, no matter where you are, everything has gotten a hue over it, that I don't like. I'd prefer the original, colder blueish hue which seems more realistic to me. Ofcourse in Toussaint, a somewhat yellowish hue is ok ( not too much like now ) but it really isn't nice to play for me everywhere else.
Also, I've noticed a lot of people expecting a totally new game (or a totally different new engine) being used for this update. It isn't a remake. It's a remaster. You don't like the RT water reflections? Well, that is what you get when you try to get RT to work on a older game. You can't expect they recreate fluid behaviour on an older game engine. They used an Nvidia AI program to evaluate all the textures and turn them into higher quality.
Funny, I personally quite like the warmer hues that come together with RTX, and of course other benefits.
It look good but just too much fps lost for me. My rtx3070ti get 40 fps at ultra setting, just not worth it!
Yup this is what happens when all the Talent leaves CDPR. Who tf thought it was a good idea to use a Dx11 to Dx12 wrapper when even Microsoft recommends against it. This is just flat out unacceptable. Switch to vulkan already ffs.
Sure, you can go ahead an do the conversion on this old game real quick... From the armchair perspective everyone likes to complain, what cdpr offer here FOR FREE is just remarkable
@@MrMokey24 You must have a RTX 4000 series to have no problems at all.
@@Z3t487 3060ti, but there being no problems is not the point. I would like more than 30 fps too in the cities, but I am not a spoiled child wanting to eat the cake and have it, too. If you expected RT without fps loss of at least 50 percent you don't know how taxing this technology really is.
Can you enable one RT effect at a time, to see if one is more demanding?
I tried that, comically it crashes my game to desktop if I try and turn off parts of RT, others report the same.
@@capuchinseven yep, same here
@@avatarxs9377 same
Tried, and they don't bring that big of a performance jump.
btw this game came out in 2015 which was 8 freaking years ago, with RT and free upgrade looks like a brand new 2023 rpg now thats just mad
I think what's gonna make 4060-4070 cards attractive when they eventually come out is dlss3. I have the 4090 and the only game in which I use it right now is this one... Would be great if they could tweak it a bit to work on 30 series or even 20, could make a 3060 a good 4k card.
I have to say, I use an 2070, and I get similar FPS as the video above with 1080p. Without DLSS, it would be unplayable. So I am not sure DLSS needs tweaking on those cards. Sure free FPS gain is always welcome, but I doubt it haves any more in it. It would be good for Nvidia or even 3th party, to create a more affordable next gen 30x series with DLSS3. (Just like they modernized the GTX1060 with the GTX1660 back then.) RTX 3660Ti with DLSS3? Or RTX 3760? I would buy that card in a whiff.
Yeah, I wish it was like that. Nothing close to RTX ON on Xbox Series X. Just checked the baths in Novigrad - no reflections
120 fps vs 48 fps with 3070 Ti , i think i will stay with RTX off
Anyone else find RT a bit distracting here? Like, it causes a sort of "uncanny valley" effect...

Lol DLSS 3 IS for RTX 4000
With RT ON looks like Skyrim ultra modded. Damn...
its hard to turn off once you get used to how it looks. When RT is 144fps it's going to be glorious
For the fps hit, RT is NOT worth it at all. Actually some shots look much better with RTX off where RT makes it looks more cartoony. For example around 30 seconds in comparison.
Even 4070 will struggle with 60+ fps in 1440p ultra with RT on and DLSS off.
But damn, witcher 3 looks even more gorgeous and realistic than ever before with RT
1080p?
Shows the game was not designed with RT in mind.
You loose a lof of textures and depth dues to heavy shadows in many places, some of the scenes become terrible like 8:37
Again shows the game was not designed with RT in mind or at least very poorly optimized for the huge amount of playable places this game has.
Some scenes look better, some worse with raytracing would have to create materials with raytracing in mind to fully utilize raytracing.
looks better but not worth for 70% of the performance, i cant play it at rtx3070 laptop, gives 30 fps, i need at least 60 fps
in some cases it looks quite nice, in other it's barely noticeable but - 60% of performance doesn't worth the hassle most of the time
cp77 at Psycho RT ran better than next-gen RT.
And cp77 has every RT possible it has to offer.
W3's DX12 needs a patch fr.
i've tried RTX-On on my PC(12700K+3080(10GB)) in 3440x1440p res. with almost all settings maxed out, DLSS - Balance, HWorks - Geralt+4. And it runs like shit, i got around 40-50 fps in openworld locations and jelly-controls with input lag. Most funny thing of this - difference was barely visible, this feature not really needed for this game, cause the game still looks very fresh.
P.S. Without RTX i got around 90-115 FPS on almost all maxed out with 3080(10GB), also got some random stutters even with SSD.
Color grading seem very different.
Some scenes look better with it off imo. Like @0:54
Only for dual Rtx 3000 series or Rtx 4000 series, on 1440p…. Because I can’t get more than 45 fps with my 3070…. 64 GB ram, i9 etc…. Without RTX everything on Ultra+ I have 100-148 fps… but as soon as I turn RTX ON my fps drops to 25-45
“RaY tRaCiNg varrElYy mAkeSS A DIfFeRenCe”
It kicks my 3080 square in the nuts. What's the point of looking good if even a 3080 suffers horrible stuttering, frame drops and low fps
Lol, from 100+ FPS with rare drops to 90+ FPS for a second in 1.32 version to 30 FPS and dropping even below 30 with 4.0 version. I regret buying the RTX 3080 12 GB this year, even if for below 1000 euro... Should have waited for the release of RTX 4000 series sticking with my old RTX 2080 a bit longer in the meantime.
Yeah the optimization for this is a joke. I cant even play 4k at 60 fps with a 3090. Just terrible, I'll just have to wait on a patch to even play it.
Looks amazing but one needs a RTX 4090 to play with it, even in 1440p.
Simply the truth (on 12/16/2022)
Except clearly better reflections, it doesn't even look better. Just different.
In some cases, I like the graphics of RTX on. But in some other cases, I like the graphics of RTX being off. (even if the FPS stays the same.)
I cant even play on Dx12, and on Dx11 i cant turn on Dlss. Wtf is going on? I have a Rtx 3080
They should've shown actual benchmarks before release to temper expectations, cause this sure ain't worth it
With my rtx 3070ti with everything on ultra and all rt on am getting 45fps
At 1440p
That includes dlss on balanced.
Hopefully some patches coming? Anyone know?
i dunno dude. you may have to bump down some settings to hit that magic 60 number. youre close already...just lowering a few things should get you there. the visual difference between high and ultra is almost non existent.
Honestly 45 fps on a rpg is plenty. You only need 60+ fps for shooters and racers

The game crashes for me whenever I have rtx on
It looks very nice if you make a direct comparison but the game itself is still great with no RTX and some shaders/mods. This RTX update can pump a 9/10 game to 10/10 but it's no way worth 50% of your framerate.
I have a RTX 4090, I have always high fps. 😎
I think I'll stick with version 1.32 with mods
wish I could play with rtx, 3060ti is unplayable with it on... what you don't get with this is the lows on FPS - those dips with rtx on, are brutal
I don't like how RT makes shadows pitch black. Foliage looks better RT off. Most of a time RT looks just different not better. Performance hit is not justified in this game. Sadly you cannot turn indivual RT effects on unless you turn RTGI first on. Wonder why...*cough, nvidia*
I think they have cranked this game to future proof it one day we will play this and it will be considered normal for everyone to have Rtx on
HIgh amount of fps drop is the way ray tracing works. They can make the gpu running ray tracing go down to 1 fps if they wanted to, but there are diminishing gains as you try to increase ray tracing quality.
Well with DLSS 2.0 you can mitigate 90% of the loss and the image quality is just as good imo.
I don't see any significant changes :)
Either it's not optimised too well or it is that demanding, hence sometimes it is simpler to lock the fps. The lowest I got on maxed out is 30 jagged frames per second, let's call it jFPS :D - gpu RTX3060Ti
Personally I keep noticing the draw distance in the game. I have the feeling the game keeps fully rendering objects that are hidden from view, or are too far away. Which doesn't help with FPS at all. When I walk on an open field, like Toussaint and watch the trees in the distance, I have the feeling (according to the full 3d casted shadows done by RT) they are fully rendered trees. Instead of the flat 2D models you normally see in order to optimize games. I feel the culprit is in there somehow. Way too much (useless) detail is being rendered.
@@PANTA-Music Digital Foundry have come to conclusion that the game doesn't work with multithreading, the CPU cores not being used as it was intended so it is most likely the CPU optimisation bottleneck the performance.
RTX on, FPS off still stand these days even after 3 generations.
from 120 fps to 50fps with rtx on that is huge frames per second loss
I have 30 ips with a 3070 you have a 3080 ?
boys, just get the fsr3 framegen mod for 30 series and earlier, now I get 100fps with a 3080 @1440p with rtx! (Dlss quality). There is some barely noticeable smudging, but otherwise it feels like you literally downloaded fps lol
most of the features of ray tracing could be recreated easily with ssr or indirect lighting and bloom. Cd projekt were just lazy , and dropped RT all over the game ,without trying other ways of rendering forms.
Hopefully they fix it so rtx 3070 can get atleast 60fps on 2k
It can well mine can u just can’t play on ultra or even some high settings if u turn ur settings to medium to high u can run some if not all the the rt settings
There is nothing to fix, RT is this peformance hungry. Only way to increase the fps is to use dlss or lower settings, even the new RTX4090 is struggling.
Despite poor optimization this is clearly the next step in videogame graphics. The difference is night and day. Rasterisation is a thing of the past, no longer the defining metric for performance.
7:32
what the fuck happened with the water in RT mode xdddd
Graphics/Performance/Common Sense vs RTX
friendly saying it looks better on RTX off
RT is very resource intensive... it seems to half your FPS
Sometimes less, but losing more than a half more often.
There is something terribly broken with dx12 implementation so it struggles even withour RT.
Also dlss/fsr2 aint doing shit at the moment.
Waiting for another patch, I guess

30 FPS gaming on a 3080. Progress sucks.
