Thanks for the heads up Matt. I was close to buying a pair from Emerald but decided not to now. Think I'm just gonna make sure my next car has them as standard lol
Nice video Matt, always good to do research before you go ahead and buy something like this. Especially if it means your insurance won't pay out in the event of an accident.
@@mattsbeamerI'm not sure as i've never looked into it as an option to be honest. I would imagine the only car I have that would be a potential contender for something like that would be the Panda given the boot can be unlocked from the key remote. I'd have to have a look to see if there is such a thing for it but given that the 2 cars I owned before the Panda arrived in my life had manual everything, having a remote to open the boot is quite fancy and it's a light tailgate anyway 😜 the boot struts used in the Panda are a universal thing in the FCA group so if it exists for one, it likely exists for all.
i bought a set for my Astra GTC. I thought it was fantastic, but after around 4 weeks or so, the talgate had moved, and no linger lines up properley. I will be removing them today as a result. Bad idea to use these. They push too much on the bodywork.
@@mattsbeamer hi Matt its been fitted for almost a year now. No issues to be honest just that you need a brand new sturts so it has that push when they new. Mine were new when I installed it and still opens. It stops half way in winter but in summer no issues.
The thing with mods like this is there's risk but it's upto you if you want to take that risk. Now if you buy from somewhere decent like emerald struts your not going to have the problem with quality like would from some random eBay listing that could be a supplier based in China. But at the same time it's a basic mod that has the potential to go wrong. For example as pointed out in this video once fitted if you accidentally press the button to pop the boot open it'll open or try to. So if you've parked against a wall or somewhere not suitable to open your boot and you press the button it'll try to open. Damaging your boot. There's possibly a reason car manufacturers didn't just fit more powerful struts as standard to create the same effect. Done properly I'm assuming cars with functions to open and even close boots automatically have features that detect and stop the boot opening and closing if it means causing damage to the car. With this if you press the button to open the boot it's going to try and open regardless.
Hi Mat. Hope u recover soon and start strengthening the back once u feel better. Can u tell me what the cause could be for a wet left hand side carpet ( passenger side) on my F20. My sub is ruined and taking the carpet out isn very easy. If u can give me some advice on what internal parts should I keep cleaning so in future I don’t have an issue.
Thank you mate. This question deserves its own video. I will research where the common leaks are, I was suppose to do it a while back, but my memory is awful. Cheers :)
@@Chris_Ks05 chris where these from emerald struts as I’ve got today received a set to put on my m140i and I’m now worried slightly please let me know if they were emerald struts please cheers chris
I removed the dark ice design struts from my mondeo mk4, due to warped tailgate and misalignment. Also if you grab the tailgate on one of the corners to close it, the tailgate will bend slightly , so when it hits the lock it may damage it, so you always have to close the tailgate from the centre of it, not the corners. This may be a concern if leaving the car with a garage if they open the tailgate and close it by one of the corners. DON'T BUY DARK DESIGN STRUTS, they are rubbish.!
I was considering buy those, but I was wondering whenever myself or my wife park close to a wall or something and inadvertently press open the trunk and damage it. In my case I don’t think it’s that much worth, as the effort to manually release the lock is not a big deal.
I've got them on my 120d f20 and had no problems, there just about strong enough to open the boot on a slow controlled manner. They dont explode the boot open 😅🤣 and it's easy to shut. There is nothing to worry about mate go and get some on your car ya daft bugger.
I got a vw polo 9n3 2009 and the boot struts are so powerful if you let it go up on its own it will hit you on the chin you have to hold it and gradualy let it up
I have a mini cooper s r56 just ordered a pair of emerald boot struts expensive but I'm hoping they are good quality.. I normally do my research before buying but got excited when seeing them I ordered. Once I done the search I'm little worried now ha.. But you won't no yourself till you have your own experience.
I did this mod on my f21 2017! DON'T DO IT! I was excited because I'd use it a lot but didn't work even 1 time. Got them from AMZ DE., quite expensive. 25 eur. Left a bad review but didn't un install. 1 year later had to replace both struts. (Quite sure that the springs had to do with it)

Very true :D Are there companies out there which do this mod for your cars?

Thank you for letting us know how you got on with these struts. It is such a shame, as I would like something like this for mine. Take care

Thank you :D
I’ve thought about doing this but decided I don’t see the point unless I can get it to close as well which is much cooler
I have always wanted a self closing boot lol :) cheers :)
I did that mod long time ago. Trust me there is no harm doing this.
Thanks mate. Which kit do you have? :)
Thanks for the link mate, I don't know why it didn't show up on here. It has a nice motion on yours. How long has it been fitted? :)

Mine came through the door membrane. Same with rear door and floor. Stick on a new membrane if split or add more butyl sealant. Fixed mine.
Has Somebody used the struts from Emerald Struts? They seem pretty high quality
