The only reason you are saying this is because you are a nihilist who only sees things through the lens of resentment and punishment. You completely twisted the story. The wife broke off in the middle of the act of her own choice. Told her friend, then told her husband the next morning. Get over yourself. Nancy came in late after the divorce was already in the process, which means she was only trying to finalize it with her own version of events. The way she immediately went into the story only when OP mentioned Lucy confessed is too odd.

That's not necessarily true. Some people are sociopathic in their unfaithfulness, but I would expect the OPs first wife to have gotten caught if she was that unfaithful long before this.
But unless you're a psycho, most cheating happens at the big life milestones. A lot of people cheat in the run up to a marriage, "one last fling before I tie the knot." A TON of men cheat on their pregnant wives because their spouse's body isn't attractive to them and they figure this is a last chance at something before fatherhood. But I think the time with the highest degree of stumbling is around the time the kids move out, when people realize they're about to start being capital O Old and they don't wanna believe it or accept, and have a sort of second adolescence. It's extremely common with both genders.

when you meet people like this often enough, your perspective on age vs mental maturity changes drastically...
when you meet teen girls who genuinely are more mature about relationships then adult women.. its disturbing.. but its more and more common..
my mother was a chiropractor and working or her... omg... i met some amazingly immature old women... like stuck in the jr.high mindset at 78+yo... one was 78, had, and i kid not, over 18 marriages under her belt.. and according to her every one of the breakups was the mens fault, not just including but especially the times the guys caught her cheating on them... her 14yo grandaughter just came and sat close to me and asked me a few questions then said "i really dont like my grandma, shes a thot, a ratchet..." i had to ask what a ratchet chick was back then... and died laughing "shes good for a nut and a bolt".. about her own grandma LoL.. the grandaughter ended up married to a gen-x "old man" and the 2 started a private school/homeschooling business during cv19, oh and that old gal had great great grandchildren when she passed... they had to delay the service till summer so they could book a public venue because the ex's and the kids she had with them as well as their current families all were invited... all the stories about her made it clear she was stuck in the jr.high-highschooler mindset her whole life, it was never her fault people were just being mean to her.

This was never a mistake. She made a cold and calculated decision to have both men in her life. And she never wanted to choose. She probably said similar things to Rick about how big of a loser and creep her husband was. They both idolized Lucy when in actuality she was never worth either of their time.
Rick world realized this when she slept with him. His view of her would shatter the moment he realized she cheated on her hubby and he was sleeping with the real Lucy. While the Hubbies was shattered when he found out he cheated.
I always find it funny how both men involved tend to frame the other as evil when they are just being used as playthings by the woman two timing.

She really did not love her husband or, better still, not in love with him. She cheated too quickly with the AP at the party. After 26 years of marriage, she gave in that easily to the AP. I would have to divorce her. I would never want to be around her anymore. I do not wish to care for her if she ever got sick. Also, I would not let her take care of me if I was ill, nor would I want her to take care of me or even allow it to happen. I would have no trust in her. In addition, the husband shows signs of weakness throughout the marriage. This is probably why the wife could easily cheat and hope for forgiveness.

It's baffling to me is how she fell for his lies even at that age .What i can make of this is lucy loved her husband but at that age she doesn't get the sexual attention from her husband like it's their first time it's a fact and rick bombarded her with beautiful lies they wouldn't have been believable for her if they're coming from a random stranger but rick having an interest in her since college days made her think that he still sees her as the woman in her college days and she quickly got folded and wanted to experience being young and desired again and thought that it's the last time she might feel desired again, of course if she wasn't caught by nancy she would've kept it a secret and consider screwing rick again or buried the truth as it's only a one time thing. She realised how much she fucked up after the consequences hit her and she ended up in a turmoil of the saying "i wish i could go back and change everything" and after the divorce is finalised and op is not coming back she quickly went back to rick as he is the second option and rick treated her like she's the second option for hum too. If a man tries to screw you even after knowing that you're married he is also probably not looking for a long term relationship he was just there only for quick bang bang.
