    The hallucination scenes showed the disconnect Vi and Jinx had in regards to their past. Vi fights for those that are gone and brought them up to remind “Powder”. But those same faces and voices are the ones that have been torturing Jinx for years. Vi wanted to return to the past. Jinx wanted to escape her’s.

      Yeah I love this about arcane- a lot of shows present a certain "right way" to get through to a oerson, when in reality what people need is different and Vi and Jinx's relationships to the past and the people they've lost is a perfect example. Vi is saying what SHE would need to hear, which is exactly what people tend to do, without realising how much it hurts jinx rather than helping. It just hoes to show how much thought went into every aspect of the characters

      Also u can see like those monsters that are towering over her in that scene are the ones she remember because u see like their faces get scratched in a fast glimps of red blue monster and then u see those same monsters in full shape towering over her so that shows that her memory’s of them are just not the same as vi and sadly vi isn’t equipped to understand and see that vi in the end was hurting powder and I think silco in the end was the only one that understood to a limited extent of where jinx was at mentally that’s why I think when silco says “your perfect” not jinx is perfect made jinx feel what she wanted and also influenced her final choice because in the end vi haven’t accepted the jinx part of powder she haven’t even acknowledge jinx and jinx is a bigger part of powder than powder is apart of her the fact vi couldn’t accept her now is what made jinx feel like vi changed that vi doesn’t love her anymore that jinx actually disturbs vi and u can some what see it when silco accepts that and also some what accepts the powder in her as well it’s very well done I think silco was manipulative but I think a lot of it have to do with his own abandonment issues as u can see whenever jinx and his relationship is threatened he slips up his cool demeanor is gone he wasn’t worried about vi he was more worried with how vi would affect jinx it always circle round to him and jinx he needs her by his side and I think that stems from his own abandonment issues but jinx cost silco more than he gained from her realistically money shimmer all that he wanted her to make the weapon yes but she overall costed silco more and caused more problems for him than solutions so I think his manipulation comes more so from his need to keep his daughter more so than needing her to gain

    Silco understands Jinx' insanity in a way Vi doesn't. Vi is accidentally torturing Jinx by forcing the past on her, and expecting her to want to go back to being Powder, who was helpless in the face of the reality that she killed her family.
    Silco pulls the gun on Vi to protect Jinx from that onslaught, accidentally triggering Jinx' trigger-happy loss of control, which he brushed off in episode 4.
    Silco, understanding how the guilt of killing her family brutalized Jinx last time, spends his last breathe showing Jinx that he not only accepts her for who she is, flaws and all, but does not blame her for killing him. He makes sure that 'he' won't be haunting her as a voice in her head.
    Jinx, realizing how unconditional Silco's love for her really was, both accepts his forgiveness, and realizes what she has just lost, in his death.
    She can never be Powder again, because the pain and guilt would be unbearable, and, with Silco's blessing, chooses to be Jinx forevermore.

      @redroseibarahime8755 3 года назад +103

      yes, many people forget that there already were her trauma scribbles on the faces of the enforcers in the first scenes - that's the reason she couldn't be alone in ep3 and stay back as she was already (and not only her but also Vi traumatized)- for Vi as a child herself she couldn't manage this and it led to the more traumatic finale of ep3 - lastly, the shimmer injections are a nail in the coffin for Jinx as well as the last step of killing Silco. I am very curious how the story of Jinx proceeds in S2 - we are still not at the end - she is missing some tattoos and her finger nails should be painted in black.

      @@PickledShark I totally agree, Powder has been unstable from the very beginning and then, at every single turn of events when there's a chance for her to become more stable, there's another push in the wrong direction, putting her further off balance.
      In my opinion, the most indicative event for this is Powder's/Jinx's question to Vi when they reunite for the first time, "Are you real?"
      She herself knows that she's having hallucinations and doesn't trust the things she sees and hears. That scene hurts every single time, as do many others.

    • @oliverm3589
      @oliverm3589 Год назад

      @@redroseibarahime8755 Trauma hardened Vi. Her trauma in losing her loving space of her parents drove her to protect Powder. It also drove her to the protective arms of both Vander and Caitlyn, who both displayed immutability in the face of overwhelming danger/power. Unfortunately her hardness in her efforts to protect Powder also simultaneously made Powder feel helpless and alone, two feelings that defined her experiences with trauma. Powder sought to follow her sister in reacting to trauma with hardness, but Powder was not as hardened by trauma, and did not have the same "strength in exchange for solitude" nature as Vi. Instead, Powder was broken by her solitude. Whereas Vi, (unfortunately for Powder), found herself working even harder to protect those she could after losing Vander, Powder took it as a severance from where she had found solace before. Thus we find Powder not just left alone, but actively removed from the only place she had found comfort since the bridge. This is how Powder dies, and where Jinx is born. Powder's family is killed because of her. Vi's family is stolen from her. Only one of them is able to engage with the world in a proactive way, the other only lashes out when they feel aggrieved.

    "Were you tempted?" "Not for a worm like him."
    That wasn't a no from Sevika. She was thinking of betraying Silco, but Finn just wasn't worthy enough to take Silco's place. Silco never once betrayed anyone and believed in loyalty and had the goal of obtaining independence for the undercity. With Finn's position, he would have most likely focused on money and business. Between the two, Sevika had higher respect for Silco.
    "I think Silco is going to turn himself in Jinx's place."
    Unfortunately that wouldn't have worked out since Silco did try to shift the blame from Jinx to himself by lying that her crimes were under his orders (they weren't, Silco even got mad when Jinx caused an explosion). But as Jayce said, "you can't make a deal with a snake and then cut off its head" especially since it's a direct deal between Jayce and Silco.
    That scene with Silco and Vander's statue is by far one of my favorite Silco scenes. Simply put, Silco initially didn't understand why Vander was willing to not fight for the sake of protecting the kids. But now that he had raised Jinx for the past 7-8 years and was given a choice of the undercity's independence at the cost of turning in Jinx, he now understood what it felt to be in Vander's shoes.
    Congrats on finishing your reaction on season 1 of Arcane! Looking forward to when you guys react to season 2!

      Something a lot of people misunderstand about Sevika is that she's loyal to one thing only: the dream of a free and independent Zaun. People get mad at her for "betraying" Vander, but in reality she would have betrayed her ideals if she *hadn't* turned her back on Vander. She knew then and there that Vander's path didn't lead anywhere but maintaining the status quo. It's why she was willing to sacrifice her life to save Silco from the bomb in spite of having only just started working for him. She wasn't protecting Silco, she was protecting Zaun's future. So as you said, with Finn she was making it clear that she will serve whoever will lead Zaun to independence. I actually grew to like her as a character, there's way more to her than just "muscle for the badguy". It's a shame most people who watch the show seem to hate her, though. I'm hoping she gets the chance to shine in season 2. Maybe she'll be the leader of the Zaunite resistance?

      @michaelwolf8690 3 года назад +4

      @@kenjutsukata1o1 I get that Sevika is a freedom fighter at her core but I think she just wants a boss who's got integrity and who has her back. She walked out on Vander and she understands it's a mistake, it cost her an arm, and it's that sunk cost that keeps her with Silco. The scene where she tells Silco that Jynx will come to him when she's ready is the clue that she's more invested in Silco than just as the leader of her revolution.
      Also that scene with Silco at Vander's Statue defined their relationship so much better than any of the dialog they had in the first act. It was a powerful moment in a very quiet speech. Like so many things Silco's character does his lashing out angrily is never as impactful as his softly spoken words.

      I'm totally behind them doing some stories from other champions, but Runeterra is an insane world. Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Warwick; all of these characters are at the lowest level of how powerful most of the champions in the game are, lore-wise.
      I have no doubt that they're going to extend the scope of the story into Noxus, and possibly Demacia, but I don't think they can go much beyond that. The story telling would get a little difficult.
      Arcane is, so far, set in a grounded world. Yeah, there's magic, but nothing like the high-fantasy stuff we would see if they started exploring the vast majority of the champion roster. Even a normal human of the freljord would basically be superman when compared to the people of Piltover/Zaun. If they portrayed them accurately, it would feel like an entirely different universe than the one they've presented so far.

      Champions like Pantheon, Leona, the Volibear, Aurelion Sol; the existence of characters like them in the story of Arcane would make the story presented so far pretty much inconsequential. I guess they could get around that by only mentioning their existences through myths or stories, but I'm just using them to make my point. The prevailing fan theory is that yes, that is Vander in the scene in Singed’s lab. The theory revolves around the lore of the champion, Warwick, a werewolf like character created by Singed. There’s evidence of this theory in game through the use of voice lines (specifically to Jinx and Vi) and in his character bio (I highly recommend checking out both) but the most damning evidence, they’re both referred to as “The Hound of the Lanes”
    Also, unrelated side note (and I’ll edit this part out if you talk about it, I commented before finishing the video) that ending song is an original piece performed by Sting and a violinist named Ray Chen, they did a live performance of it for the game awards that was just incredible.

    I want to comment on what Caleb was saying at the end about Riot expanding this into its own cinematic universe - They pretty much already have it built. Not just the worldbuilding, but a LOT of stories are already written. (If you're ever interested in it, go to the official "map of runeterra"). BUT, what I love is that Riot said Arcane ISN'T canon. That means that the creators of any potential future series/movies can do whatever they want, but they can still take all of the inspiration, characters and worldbuilding from the world that is already built. They're not adapting a video game, they're building a whole new world based on all of the already existing stories and cinematics. I think that's why Arcane's story was so good, and why I have high hopes for future series, including the ones that focus on other regions of the world. Riot really started something big with this show.

      - Cinematics after "a twist of fate" in 2013
      - All stories after the reboot
      - Cards in Legends of Runeterra (except poros and kda cards)

    • @georgeytg
      @georgeytg 3 года назад +10

      @@forsenfan69 Arcane has many conflicts with the current lore right now. If they made it canon, they would either have to: 1. Change the Arcane lore to fit with the current lore, or 2. Retcon the current lore.
      For example, hextech in current lore was supposed to be something ancient (found in Brackern species in Shurima), but here it was created recently. There's a TON of implications if hextech didn't exist before Arcane events. If that was canon, then they would have to change Camille's lore entirely, since she's currently 80 years old and has had a hextech heart for 54 years. And that's just one character.
      Maybe Riot will at some point say that Arcane is indeed canon, and will rewrite a lot of the old lore, but in my opinion, I think it's better if they have their own cinematic universe.

Since Jinx was a kid Silco let her do whatever she wanted and became a loose canon. Now look where that got him, it all blew up in his face.
      We all know Silco loves Jinx but he also projected his abandonment issues and trauma onto her and let's be honest, he kinda spoiled her by not correcting her bad behavior. Parenting is all about balance.
      Also remember the fact that Vi has been in prison for 5-6 years, that's why she still thinks Powder is still in there. Vi understands that Jinx did what she had to do to survive, she said so herself but they both changed and they realize this by the end.
      I noticed that a lot of people are really ignoring Vi's perspective on all of this and that she's the only one at fault, but every single one of these characters have done something wrong and that is a very human thing to do, they're complex and gray! Jinx: therefore, he might believe that Powder won out, since she chooses to save Vi. So he doesn't repeat "Jinx is perfect." But "You're perfect." Whoever his daughter decides to be.
    Rage: As you say, in his final moments, he stops fighting, lets the waters take him, the monster rest. "Have you had enough?" He finally has, and goes gentle into that long night.

    Spoilers so I'll put this below in case anyone doesn't want to know what might happen:
    The fan theory is that is indeed Vander, and he's going to become Warwick. The lore adds up, there's many videos that show it.
    Warwick's music played in the back of Episode 3 when he had the shimmer affect him and he was growling, and Warwick has a metal hand that replaced the same hand Vander injured when he tried to kill Silco in his past

    In Episode 2, Vi would have started a war with Piltover just like Silco would have done for her in Episode 9, but now Vi wouldn't have done that anymore.
    Also, when Jinx asked Vi to kill Caitlyn (make her to away) she was referring to how when they were children, Vi used to chase their imaginary monsters away.
    Caitlyn was one of those monsters in her eyes.

    Thats essentially the theme of the entire show.
    No one is completely right or wrong.
    No one is completely good or evil.
    No one is completely black or white.
    Everyone is a little bit of both.
    Vander is the "Paragon of Virtue" character (Like Obi-wan) BUT he's a criminal and a murderer, even if he did it for the right cause.
    Silco is the "Archetypal Villain" character (Like Vader) BUT even tho his methods are ruthless and cruel, his cause is actually just.
    Vi is a "Robin Hood" type of character, Caitlyn is a "Letter of the Law" type of character.
    Viktor/Jayce
    Grayson/Marcus
    Echo/Heimerdinger
    All are two sides of one coin and all of them embodies both sides even in themselves.
    Its all about duality..
    No one is actually *truly* evil, not even Silco.
    He's not hurting people for no reason, he's not a blood thirsty sadist hurting people for his own amusement.
    He only ever does it to further his cause which is to rid the undercity of the oppression of Piltover.
    In his eyes no individual is worth more than the freedom of his people.
    Until Jayce demands Jinx ofc.
    Silcos monologue to Vanders statue is by far the best scene in the show btw.
    Jinx being both the exception AND the poetically beautiful pinnacle of this by being none of it and both of them at the same time due to her Split personality.
    Jinx/Powder, more than any other, highlights this by both being the same person.
    Jinx being the ultimate chaos and Powder being the ultimate innocence.
    Its such a basic, common sense concept unfortunately lacking in todays entertainment industry.
    And with so phenomenal writing,
    This is what makes the show so god damn authentic and human.
    Its the best animated show of all time, it might be the best show of all time period.
    Absolute master class.

    Also, I would love Vander returning as Warwick but for the sisters to never learn he is back, just keep his past secret from everyone except the audience and have it be sad by itself
    Also also, there might have been a possibility that Slico was that desperate to escape his constraints because Vi mentioning their family was hurting Jinx, since he was never that desperate at any point before that

    The way I interpreted Silco trying to shoot Vi is that he was trying to protect Jinx. What Vi doesn't get is that Claggor and Milo aren't pleasant memories for Jinx. They are the shadow monsters that whisper and torment her. Silco, having been with Jinx in the aftermath, sees that and tries to help Jinx but stopping Vi. Vi, while trying to help, making Jinx confront her trauma but not in the best way. Its very confrontational so Silco panicked and attacked Vi.

  • @Wuffskers
    @Wuffskers 3 года назад +6

    I didn't realize when I first watched it the depth of what's going on when Silco and Vi are yelling over each other and Silco tries to shoot her. Vi doesn't understand that those memories are painful for Jinx, even if Powder is still in there, bringing up the people she killed is NOT how you will get through to her because remembering them is deeply traumatic for her and Vi seems to completely disregard Jinx's suffering because all she wants is Powder back. Silco shoots Vi not necessarily because he's worried Vi will get through to her or something, but because Vi is hurting his daughter and he wants to stop it.
    Another thing that I don't think is mentioned much is how complex the consequences Silco's final words actually are. Despite the undeniable love between Silco and Jinx and how beautiful his words are in the moment, those words very likely lock Jinx into her current mentality permanently. She was concerned about whether Vi could accept her, and Silco accepts her unconditionally even after she shoots him, and what does he say? that she's perfect. If you're mentally unstable and the person that loves you unconditionally tells you you're perfect as they die, well are you going to be very inclined to change in the future? It's a beautiful moment but not the most healthy, sometimes it's important for loved ones to be constructively critical of your choices and actions if they are destructive or unhealthy. I think Vander is a perfect example of a stern parental figure who doesn't endorse or let everything slide, but even when he's firm he's not mean or abusive. Silco if anything, even before his death, was a little too lenient with Jinx. I also saw an interesting theory that Jinx's "I made her a snack" moment was actually a test for Vi, would Vi actually believe Jinx would do something so terrible? and Vi failed.
    On a less interpersonal level also I remember seeing someone point out how Jinx kind of represents the Undercity in general. All the ingenuity and creativity and individuality, but also all the pain and anguish and chaos and volatility of the undercity is all represented in Jinx. Silco's soft spot for her and his response to the deal suddenly becomes pretty interesting when thinking of Jinx this way. Obviously as a person Silco loves Jinx and doesn't want to give her up, but as a metaphor for Zaun giving Jinx up could be seen as Zaun also losing what makes it special, and also that Silco is hesitant to give that up. He even alludes a little bit to it a few times how he doesn't want Zaun to necessarily be sanitized into some sort of Pilltover 2.0, he's directly critical of other people who have "spent too much time in the sun".

    What I like about the fact that Silco couldn't talk at the table is that in the beginning he dindn't even try to talk, he was calm, he only tried talking when Vi told Jinx the idea of getting away and never coming back, he heard that and started to talk because of the fear of losing Jinx for ever. Thats one of the things that I love about how the made Silco and Jinx father/daughter relationship, you can't deny the love and care they have for each other but at the same time is so messed up, it isn't healthy because both have so many abandonment issues, he isn't capable of letting his daughter go, but every father or parent should be prepared for their sons/ Daughters to grow up and live their life, that was imposible for him and for Jinx who is stuck in a childish mindset , Silco was so calm while he was dying, he didn't care, he only wanted Jinx to know that he loved her more than anything and its obvious he would choose death before losing her or seeing her sad. I also like the choice of words, when he baptized her he said "Jinx is perfect" but in here he said "You are perfect" its all of her, no matter what she decides or not decides for him she always be perfect, and that makes Jinx's decicion more powerful because it was her choice, she decided for better or worse, aaaaaa such a great show, what a master piece ❤❤❤❤

    Silco is the closest to a perfect villain I've ever seen. 11/10.
    The fact that he only wants to kill Vi when he sees the amount of damage Vi was doing to Jinx when calling her old family, was only to protect Jinx. And in the end his death with the validation of a great father, saying to his daughter she's perfect, he wouldn't change her in any way, may help Jinx solidify her personality. It's beautiful.

    • @mathies3598
      @mathies3598 3 года назад +2

      I agree with everything except calling him a great father. He's far from it. He loves her, but that's not enough. A great father would see that she's not perfect, she has flaws, major ones at that, but love her anyway. Family is supposed to be there for you not only to validate you but also to help you become a better person. Then there's the whole thing of "well he's a villain himself, ofcourse this is what he views as the perfect daughter." Now here's the thing: maybe bad people shouldn't be in a position qualified for parenting. Crazy, I know. But if they lived in Piltover, Powder would've been taken away from Silco and raised in a better environment.

    • @blumae1170
      @blumae1170 3 года назад

      I think him saying she's perfect as she is also doomed her, since with the belief instilled in her that she was perfect as she is right now would probably not let her grow in a healthy way. Silco and Vi cared for her and even if Silco is the one who really understands her right now since V i is stuck on past, he still let the negative parts of Jinx to fester instead of helping her through it. If you really care about someone, you'll help them get over either physical,emotional, or psychological problems, not leave it as that or worsen it (Vi also worsened it also, unknowingly). That's like seeing a child do bad things and not doing anything about it, therefore unkowingly encouraging that kind of behaviour no matter how destructive it is. It irks me how many people didn't see the negative effect of that validation. A great parent will love you unconditionally with all the flaws we have and help us to be a better person than we are right now, or else we would be stuck with our bad habits.
      It really irks me how a lot see him as a great parent because of personal reasons, when I was younger I was a bit of a kleptomaniac and my parent love me, but they also understand that me getting things from others without permission is not right, so they helped understand and work through it, not ignore it. If they told me I was perfect no matter how many things I steal from others, I would probably a thief right now. They saw my flaws, but they helped me get over it, and that's real parenting and true love from a parent. They care about you and want you to be a better person, not let you get stuck in the idea that of "Oh, my parent told me I'm perfect, and if so why should I change", when we clearly have flaws that are destructive, not only to others, but for ourselves.
      I don't know if I was able to get my thoughts clearly since English is not first language, but here it is.
      Also, this show is amazing (which I didn't ecpect honstly), and nothing makes me like a story more, than a story that let's us see, interpret, and analyze things from different perspectives. Long discussions are great, which is also why I like this channel for they have long discussions abour every episode.

    You know how they said the character of the Joker is a mirror of society's failings and sins? I think Jinx is likewise a reflection of the violence she endured and witnessed, the oppression of Zaun and her stifling, brutal growing environment. But in a way, her madness, the bad luck she trails after her, make her almost an instruments in the hands of some retributive divinity, dishing out vengeance and punishment in some blind version of justice. She's the Lady of Misrule, and she redirects back, topsy-turvy, the sins and violence at the sinners. Therefore she is Silco's undoing (while being his greatest gift. god, I love his character, but what a poetic death), and also Piltover's new nightmare. I predict therefore that the only hope for Jinx's peace, or let's say appeasement, can only happen once Piltover's addressed its original sin, the oppression of Zaun, and a measure of peace is brought to the Undercity.

    Thank you for your reactions, one of the best!!! There is the scene in last 9th episode which I find very important for season 2, but a lot people overlooked it. When Silco and Jayce was meeting on city walls, Jayce said: "I was reminded recently of what brought us together in the first place The threats beyond our walls". And Silco had answered: "The city has a short memory". Threats beyond OUR walls! Like Noxus Empire, the mommy general Medarda is part of! So I hope, that in Season 2, the both parts of the City, after some struggle, will be forced to cooperate for survival and fight the outsiders to remain independent!
    P.S. Family dinner is the great dramatic ending! It make me too look forward to 2. season even more, and for me cliffhanger do not matter. The satisfying end of the season one is the Jinx deciding who she is. When she sat on that chair with Jinx name like a boss, this is it! She finally accepted who she is and her past is not tearing her personality apart, no more, scars remain, but she let go her past, like Silco try to told her earlier!

    I love that on one hand, the end of the season does feel like a cliff hanger, cutting off before the literal big bag, but, on the other, when you think about it there's nothing more to the basic story that the viewer can't conclude for themselves. Jinx and Vi will never be sisters as they used to again, Pilltover and the undercity wage war and the undercity will probably lose in a bloody battle and history will repeat itself. Any chance at peace between the two sides have been shattered.

    One thing to note -- Mel turns around long before anyone else even started to notice the missile. And, on top of that, the light that appears to be reflecting off the gold she's wearing doesn't really have a source -- there's nothing from that direction that could have been casting that light. And, the sound design shifts dramatically in that moment, in a similar manner to the more subtle effects of hextech. AND Mel is portrayed visually as a source of light at many, many points in the show (e.g. the very bright flashlight in episode 3; her introduction scene when the sun is a harsh illuminating backlight). AND her clothes as a child have a design remiscent of sun/light imagery.
    I'm pretty convinced that Mel weilds some kind of magic related to light. After all, she was the only council member to be gung-ho about hextech from the start -- if she's a magic wielder already, she knows the potential it could have for Piltover.
    I don't know if this is a Noxus thing, or unique to Mel (and could be part of what shaped her to be different from Mamadarda), but I think that that magic is going to be what saves Victor and Jayce, but probably not any others on the council.
    Which, if this is the case, adds a whole new layer to the Piltover/Zaun and Piltover/Noxus and Noxus/[unnamed threat] dynamics -- if the leader of Piltover, the daughter of the ruler of Noxus, wields magic openly, it could very well open the floodgates for a lot more non-hextech magic to enter the fray. Magic seems to have been somewhat suppressed in Piltover, thanks to Heimerdingers founding principles, but he's gone, and she will quickly become the most powerful person in Piltover. There's no reason to believe that, if she weilds magic, that she's the only one. More and more will come out of the woodwork, fighting and peacekeeping on all sides, because the zeitgeist around magic has shifted.

    i know theres not much point commenting because this is a year old, but you were right about the thing on the roof of singed's lab being vander. Vander gets experimented on and turned into warwick, he even uses the same growls as in the gamefiles of warwick in LoL, and it plays warwick's theme when vander is being dragged to the chair. and he even gets called "the hound of the underground" in episode 1! as well as there being lots of voicelines in game that relate to vi and jinx
    Just hoping you guys see this!

    There's a small teaser for season 2!!! You should definetely see - react to that if you havent already!
    I have to say from all the reactors Ive watched (and there have been A LOT), Im so glad to see finally the first one to aknowledge that Jinx didnt "accidentally" kill Silco but it was an active choice to protect Vi. I also want to point out that your analysis on Silco while I dont want to put in a spectrum of right and wrong, as its entirely subjective I guess on how each individual interpretates his actions, is the closest to how I think of him... A very bad person, a bad father, but with uncoditional love for his daughter... Great reaction all around for the entire season you managed to become favorites without having even heard of you before, So ill be sure to check out more of you! Keep it up!
