Total Guitar catches up with a Nameless Ghoul from Swedish heavy metallers Ghost B.C. backstage to talk through his custom Gibson RD.

@@ShoreyJr a lot of people who are fluent in a language aren't necessarily fluent in all topics. Sometimes if you're dealing with a topic you're more used to talking about in your mother tongue, you struggle for the words. I think that's what the original comment meant, maybe.

I don't think this is Papa here. Papa has much less of an accent. This one is really Alpha I believe. I wish Alpha got more credit. People seem much more obsessed with Omega. They both deserve the same amount of praise in my book though.
I think Omega gets more attention because he together with Papa in Ghoul attire handle the press.
+Gustav Hagberg & +The Swex I agree, Omega is quite animated on stage, lots of energy, but Omega & Alpha have epic fun chemistry, but all 3 guitarist get into this great little trinity huddle and just mess around on stage, makes the show!!
+shaolinwisdom I think a lot of his "lack of knowledge" in this video is simply him being coy or just trying to keep up the mystery. Or he's shy. Alpha doesn't do many interviews so he's probably not used to doing press. I do dig the energy on stage though. It has to be liberating having your identity concealed!
+Chris Warrick I met him and Omega after a show once too. We were talking about all the crazed fan theories. The best one has to be that Simon is actually Papa and Tobias is actually Bass Ghoul. Had a good laugh over that one! They seem like such cool, laid back dudes. Then again, they're from Sweden, so no shock. I've always wanted to visit there!
+Chris Warrick Mauro was awesome! I miss Aksel in the band but Arvid does great on the drums. Mauro seems pretty proud to have his son in the band too! I also had no idea Omega and drummer ghoul were bros until that night.

I've got a lot of respect for Ghost. They use their costumes to conceal their identities, rather than to exploit themselves like Kiss or Alice Cooper.

RD's are a unique choice. I remember when they were introduced in the late 1970's. Heavyweight for sure with active electronics. They bombed sales wise, and were changed to normal electronics after that. I didn't know they still made them till Ghost!
In my eyes, they single-handedly brought this guitar to the limelight. I like these shapes, very pleasing to the eyes than stratocasters lol
Saw these guys live. Full of energy, the band has a dark and mysterious ambiance to them, music is heavy and good. Then it comes to the interviews.. they seem just so shy and it's almost cringey.. it's just so funny

This one looks way more like a Firebird than an Explorer, man I like it. Even because the Firebird is the most underrated Rock 'n Roll machine by far in the whole Gibson Catalogue.

NO because actualyl its meant to be an alchemical symbol and not a reference to being "alpha or omega" I think the alpha nickname came from something else. His name is actually Fire and the alchemical symbol for fire is a Delta.

It cracks me up how he drags it on and on.. "yeah, this is my guitar, this is the one they gave to us, yeah I am very glad to have it. It was given to us by Gibson. Yeah they made this for us, there is no other guitar like it." When he could've simply said "This is my custom guitar by Gibson." Not bashing, it's just funny. Good musicians/songwriters.
funny isnt it how some colors just work with some shapes. Im not generally a fan of white guitars, but that's the best color for that shape, and it's beautiful. Reminds me of the Lambhorghini Miura that looks great in powder blue
I own a '79 RD Artist. It has a Maple neck/body 24 3/4 scale (the '77-'78's were 25 1/2 scale.) It has active electronics designed by Bob Moog (Gibson owned Moog at the time) It has a bass and treble boost, a compressor and an expander. There is no passive mode. Strange but cool guitar, very heavy. This guitar is all Mahogany.
This is not Special Ghoul (Papa), it really is Alpha... One more thing, he got his tatoos on his hands couple years after this was recorded

Though I guess I would still prefer Omega to do one, simply because the couple times we've seen the real Alpha speak up, he's kind of all over the place while Omega's pretty chill and gets his point across. Plus there's always stuff like maybe different specs, tuning, strings, the way he plays, etc.

This isn't the one who does the interviews, as the one in the interviews has claimed. This Ghoul's voice is a little deeper, even though they sound very similar.
It's the actual guitarist. The one we usually see in interviews is Papa, with the guitarist robe, only because they sound so similar, I believe.

Guys! He totally sounds finnish. I myself am finnish and I know that accent. I know the band is Swedish but there are of course alot of people from finland moving to sweden and the other way around. Amon Amarth's guitarist Olavi Mikkonen is finnish too.
I'm from Sweden and I imagine that is what we sound like when we speak english
His robe highlights the triangle fire symbol, so this is Alpha, the Ghoul who is the main go-to for interviews. But his voice sounds very different in this. I've often wondered if it's just Tobias aka Papa under the triangle Nameless Ghoul robe for interviews.
Rumor is that Papa dresses as Alpha and does all the interviews, if you go and listen to the voice in all the other interviews, it's usually the same, but in this one it's clearly different, so maybe it is the lead guitar (Alpha) this time...I like to think so

All of the other interviews Alpha has his eyes covered (As if he was trying to cover contacts or something.) Which kind of adds to the theory that it's papa dressing differently and doing the interviews.

the guy who does the most of the interviews it's papa (tobias forge) and he uses the same rope that this one uses. He (the ghoul of interviews) is the only ghoul who cover his eyes, not as this one

I didn't see much of it when I saw Ghost in April. I was in the second row between Papa and the bass ghoul, pretty much on Alpha's side. But I definitely like Omega more now.
***** I was the same, and now I am not ashamed to admit that I may or may not have an obsession with Mr. Omega lol. He shows a lot more personality in most interviews and has the prettiest blue eyes ever, which is a major plus for me I must say X)

I love Ghost but my biggest pet peeves as a gear guy is when people say "Oh it has Duncan's in it" or "Its got a Dimarzio set in it"
Each company has like 20 different pickups with different sounds!

I think it's a JB. I put one in my Gibson Les Paul and I play a Orange Jim Root and with Orange Cab. The Ghouls play Orange and it sounds pretty damn similar. They play the Thunderverb.
Alexskywalkerr Well they recorded the first album with a Thunderverb, but they're all on Axe FX now live... Still using very Orange sounding patches which I dig, definitely don't want to see them playing through a Diezel or something super heavy
As for the pickup I think the JB sounds too 80's hair metal-y to me for what they do. I mean, really any medium output pup into a pushed crunchy mid gain British amp will get you close enough, it just annoys me when they say the company but not the specific product
+Chad Van Oostendorp I had no clue. Where'd you find they were using AXE FX, if you don't mind me asking. I've been trying to find more information on their gear myself. I too would HATE see them use anything else like a diezel or peavy or something like that. The Orange gives them that classic awesome sound and British Bark.
Well the biggest give away is the fact they have Axe FX controllers stage left and stage right, and I've seen pictures of their guitar boats for the Infestissumam years of tour and it's sitting on top of 6 Axe FX road cases. You can tell between their shows as Papa 1 to Papa 2 everyone's amps disappeared, Alpha used to have some Oranges, Omega had Orange or Marshall, the keyboard had Orange and the bassist was running Ampeg but when they came back with Papa 2 stage dressing was distinctly cleaner
I've only seen one photo of what Alpha and Omega ran on their boards before switching over but this is Ghost's rig for sure, the RDs are the dead giveaway

+Chad Van Oostendorp So THAT'S what it was. I've seen pictures of their Rig but when I saw them in San Francisco, I noticed the controller was different than what I've seen compared to a Voodoo Lab. I also did notice that all the AMPS that were once put on stage were no longer there. I just thought they put them in the back hidden like how Slipknot or Metallica does.

if u call the (seymour duncan) theyll tell you what theyre using. might be more than two pickups, but theyll point you in the right direction. my guess is a 59 or sh2 in the neck and prob a sh4 or 5 since thats a pretty standard rock/metal combo pup set.
