Great reaction and insights. Nemophila are just getting ridiculous good as they develop as a band. Considering they already were amazing in their raw state.

Fantastic review! You said it much better than I ever could. Side note; it is interesting that you mentioned Polyphia as Hazuki is a fan of both Tim and Scott. I definitely hear that influence in her guitar playing. ❤️🌸

She, Lisa and Kotono covered a Polyphia track before they became KOIAI, so I guess Lisa is too. Those guys are definitely good technicians.
Personally, I'm fine with Hazuki having whatever influences she likes, but I would totally prefer Nemophila to NOT become more like Polyphia, LOL.

Justice is maybe heavily inspired by some modern metal riffs like Veil of maya, periphery etc for a bit..

As somebody who enjoys heavier music, I'm so happy they went in the heavier direction with this album.
This song and Hammer Down are two of my favorite Nemophila songs ever. And then you have Rise and OSKR which are just as good and heavy as those two. And then Alive and AMA-TE-RAS even have insane breakdowns and get heavy towards the middle of the songs.
Nemophila are at their best when they are heavy in my opinion and I hope they keep this up!

For a band that's only existed since 2019, they have crammed an insane amount of variety and diversity into their music while still remaining recognisably Nemophila.
I can't think of any other band that makes more rectors go "I wasn't expecting that" and "WTF did I just hear?", except maybe Maximum the Hormone.

The main reason they sound like Nemophila is Mayo. Her voice is easy to recognize. But also Tamu drumming is unique. And, of course, in many songs they have this wall of sound where you can hear individual instruments and then they use some harmonizing effect on the guitars. It is so delicious!

I think a big reason is that they basically have a fulltime writer who writes the majority of their music and apparently loves to mix it up. And before people get crazy about me saying this, I am NOT saying they don't have input or that they can't write music themselves, but the only tracks one of the members has writing credits one are these (this comes from the actual booklets of the albums):
      - Monsters (Saki on the Oiran single)
      - Hypnosis (Haraguchi-san on the Revive album)
      - Rollin' Rollin' (Saki on the Revive album)
      - 炎天 - Enten - (Saki on the Seize The Fate album)
      - Zen (Haraguchi-san on the Seize The Fate album)
      - Style (Haraguchi-san on the Seize The Fate album)
      - AMA-TE-ARAS (Hazuki on the Evolve album)
      - Alive (Haraguchi-san on the Evolve album, lyrics by Mayu)
      - Night Flight (Saki on the Evolve album, she also did the lyrics)
And a couple together with other writers:
      - 鬼灯 (Akiyama and Mayu on the Revive album)
      - Back Into The Wild (Akiyama and Murata Tamu on the Seize The Fate album)
      - Now I Here (Naoki Oka and Hazuki on the Seize The Fate album)
      - Soaring ~To Be Continued~ (Akiyama and Murata Tamu on the Seize The Fate album)
      - Rise (Akiyama with Mayu on the Evolve album, Mayu and Saki did the lyrics)
The majority of the rest are written by Kensuke Akiyama. I would expect them to write their own solos and make some changes and obviously they have to be talented to be able to pull it all off live. I think they are extremely talented, but the outside writer makes it possible for them to tour while someone else is basically working on the groundework of their next songs. For example, this track was not written by any of the members, I do think it's a great track though.

I don't know, I know from experience that some people can't take it and don't believe me when I pointed that out in the past.
I guess most people come from the Western mindset where rock and metal bands write most (if not everything) themselves. It surprised me a bit as well the first time I checked their credits. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, it's what is more common in Japan and they have the chops to back up their skills, but I would love them to write more themselves (at least 50/50 or so), just because I know they can write very good music as well. But they are writing more than they were in the beginning, so who knows. This might be something like what Band-Maid went through, it is clear they have learned a lot from their writers in the early days.

@@MaartenT As long as they're getting to write as much as they like I don't see why it would be a problem. TBH. you'd have to have a damn good reason before ditching a writer/arranger of Akiyama's talent.

This song is 🔥🔥. The new album is amazing. Despite having my least favorite Nemophila song (Enigma), it’s better than Seize the Fate. Great reaction and analysis.
