    Montreal is the best crowd EVER! We were so loud during Shawn's concert, and that was even before the show started. They only said his name and we screamed so loud that I was deaf for a few seconds.

    I’ve been to the Great City! Saw the Canadians in the Forum, walked down St. Catherine’s, went to the Casino, walked through McGill University’s campus. Went to my first Tim Horton’s there. I’m one-quarter French. It was a privilege to come to Montreal.

    Between 1977 to 1982, I worked part time at the Montreal Forum, as an employee, I had the opportunity to see all the concerts and hockey games presented at the Forum. Among others: Queen, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, Moody Blues, The Woo, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Supertramp, Nazareth, and many more. The best job of my life, but also probably the main cause of my tinnitus.

      My first concert at the forum was dec 11 1971 Rod Stewart and the faces!! I even smoked a joint with Ronnie Lane and he gave me a bottle of wine right under the stage!!!!

      Those were the days! I've been working in live music in Montreal a little over a decade, I was on a few on the shows in the video and just imagining how much better it was back before touring was artists' main source of income and before safety regulations existed or fire codes were enforced. I decided not only to move to Montreal during the first show I ever saw at Metropolis on a roadtrip but I told myself I was moving to Montreal and I was gonna work in this venue. I did a two year college course in audio engineering, moved here as soon as I was done and six months later I was loading in my first show at Metro, best decision I've ever made!

    This video almost got me in tears. With all the concerts being postponed or canceled in 2020 and 2021, it made me really miss it. And that Selena Gomez clip at 21:21 - 22:04, I remember being there. Singing at the top of my lungs. It was an awesome moment.. Thank you, great video!

    It has been a very long time since I have been to a concert in Montreal (last one was either at The Forum or Le Spectrum.... neither exist anymore) but I do need to agree 100%. In 1985, 36 years ago, (I need to put that to remind me how time flies) I was in the Forum to see Bryan Adams! They started playing ( I don't remember the song) but at one point the crowd started singing so loud that the band stopped playing and just stood there in complete amazement! Best show EVER!

    Ariana coming to Montreal in April, we'll be the loudest crowd of her entire tour. Last time she came, we screamed for like 7mins without stopping, and we made her cry with our project, it'll happen again this year

    I remember the Pink Floyd show at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal in 1977. At the very end of the show, after the encore, It was an odd scene - the rear projector on and smoke emanating - but the house lights were all on. When "Us & Them" ended, the roadies began to tear down the stage but the chants of "more ... more ... more ..." continued. Some people leave during the Blues number (That Pink Floyd played to try to calm the crowd) but most of the crowd stayed to see the band do the Blues number while roadies get the equipment out (apparently Nick Mason was HILARIOUS since at the end he basically had nothing but his seat and one of his drums).

    You know, when you're in the cold and snow and ice 9 months a year, you learn to make the most of your distractions. Plus we get lots of practice yelling at hockey games all winter. lol
    Also, if you're looking to pander to the MTL crowd, come out with a Canadiens jersey, an Expos cap, speak a little French. You cannot bomb.

    Oh, well, the secret is out now. ELP, Queen, Yes, they've all extolled on the brilliant crowds of music fans from Montreal of the 70s. The most curious story though, was told by Roger Waters, who spat on an ardent local fan, climbing the security barrier during one of their performances. No doubt to give each band member a warm Quebecois double cheek 'welcome'. So moved by the fan(atic's)"enthusiasm", Roger wrote Pink Floyd's opus The Wall, their greatest selling album. True story.

      Good afternoon Silirat,
      You are wright, but Montréal received the best of those "1/4". And, as you said, it is not obligatory for them to come to Montréal, but they do... The "3/4" left behind is welcome as the "1/4" was welcomed to. Montréal just lets talent go on and make it happend.

    • @ykMMD
      @ykMMD 4 года назад +5

      No, I do believe bands when they say that. I saw Garbage a few years ago, and they have been touring for almost 20 years now...And they were in complete disbelief at the loudness of the crowd. The bassist started shouting at us and Shirley Manson was like, wow in 20 years of tourning he has never done that anywhere! I think it was among the loudest crowds Ive witnessed in Montreal and I have been to a LOT of shows.

    • @loiseaunoir1021
      @loiseaunoir1021 4 года назад +2

      @@ykMMD I agree. I attended Genesis "The lamb lies down..." at the old Forum and the crowd yelled so loud after the end of the show, the lights had been turned up, deafening screams made them come back for an encore!

    • @badasslighting
      @badasslighting Год назад +1

      They mostly all do more or less the same "pander" speech every night on their tour and the repetition makes it sound scripted, so if you see a lot of shows or work in the industry it's pretty obvious when they do their "standard pander" but there's al;most always a point where they're overwhelmed by the energy of the crowd and it's easy to see that it's genuine. The crowd just won't stop screaming and band members are looking are each other in disbelief they almost don't know what to do, crying is actually pretty common, especially for newer artists or artists with newfound success. Adding to that there are maybe certain venues where the crowd's cheers are maybe a little louder on stage than in other venues for unintentional architectural reasons. This creates a feedback loop of the band feeding off the crowd's energy and the crowd responds back with even more energy. It's not magic but it's damn near close!
      I've seen hour-long encores where the crew doesn't even know what's going on, headliners having the PA cut after going way over their time and continuing to play acoustic for another half hour...
      The only artist I've ever heard who doesn't like Montreal is Marilyn Manson apparently because a cleaner shrunk one of his outfits in the 90s and he's still a sour little bltch about it.
      So one megalomaniacal sexual predator vs every other artist and their crew...
