On Zack and Donald's rewatch podcast, they had Bill Lawrence on and he said the entire duck story was totally improvised by Neil. Increbile. Bill told Neil to tell a story about getting a present for Lady but he could make up the details, so he comes up with "I beat a duck to death on the side of the road" lmfao
A lot of the janitors lines are made up on the spot or either they give very basic lines and expected him to twist them. That's why the janitor became a long term character after season 1
The guy that plays the janitor is extremely hilarious I watched some bloopers and a lot of the stuff he did was just improve on the spot love the duck story !!
So according to the actor he admitted he is a bit lazy and since his part was so small during season 1 he just improv what he didn't remember. Producers loved it and would instead give him a general guide to where he should end his adlib except for certain scenes where he needed to say specific lines. During the table read for season 8 the actor that played Ted laughed hard cause his direction for that scene literally read "just react to whatever Neil does".
it's even more amazing when you know that almost all the Janitors lines are just him making it up on the spot. it's a wonder they have any complete shots where someone isn't dying laughing in the background.
Modified it myself. There for it’s Jum aka Jim beam, rum and tonic. It’s strictly a brunch liquor. Or any real time of day night drink when you need to pontiffidrink lol
as the seasons go on, the janitor -JD friendship gets better and better. I mean even though he trapped you in a water tower he did help you up so thereshope for the relationship yet
0:12 With his head down, I thought he looked like Ed Helms. But when I saw Ted’s face, my whole world went 180 degrees. Like, I thought his head was much smaller than that.
I think Janitor actually doesn’t mind JD that much. I do wonder what it would’ve been like if they were outwardly friendly instead of the pranks the Janitor does to JD. I bet it would’ve been just as good. I’ll tell ya, that ending to the episode where Janitor supposedly had a twin, with JD and Janitor walking to the exit, I genuinely enjoyed it. Especially that little pat on the back JD gave the Janitor. I think they, deep down, don’t mind each other but with what they’ve got going on with other things, (Janitor tormenting JD and JD helping patients and other issues) it seems they don’t actually bring out their kindness towards each other, so you have little moments where they pay each other on the back.
@IcEye89 if we spelt "Know" "now" you'de get confused on which it was you're saying for example if we dropped the k in know it would be "Sorry IcEye i really need to now." Now is already a word. Gum is already a word. Gin rum and tonic sounds like Jum, so its easier to have a clear spelling of Jum Then Gem because Gum is a word.
GUM LEGS!!!! Gin starts with a g!!!! it's gum n tonic! Although my favorite drink is gumka... gin, rum and vodka. Not so tasty but gets the job done!!!!!!!
@xFierceDeityLinkx That's all fine, but it doesn't work that way. Either you spell all words like they are pronounced - making "now" something completely different then "know" - or you spell them like they ought to be spelled - in this case, gum. Spelling things like they are pronounced is a bad idea, because different people with different accents pronounce words differently, therefore they would spell them differently, which is bad for communication. Rewboss has a nice video about this topic.
@xFierceDeityLinkx If spelling was about how something is pronounced, why don't we drop the K in Know? It is perfectly clear, that it has to be pronounced Jum, but that has very little to do with spelling.
Osmosis Jones yes Gin is pronounced Jin but still spelled Gin with a G, Gum is pronounced Jum but still spelled Gum. The G in Gum is for the G in Gin. The U and M is for the U and M in Rum. Gum not Jum.
@@kingwacky184 I say it's better as Jum just because it's less confusing. It would be difficult for people not to think of chewing gum if it was spelt Gum, probably. It would be different if the drink was a well-known alternative, but the word should look more ambiguous when first reading the title. You make some good points though.

great podcast :)
That happened more times than you'd think. They'd give Neil a set up like, "In this scene Janitor pisses off Carla... go do it."
Well the janitor is funny because quite franky he's insane
@@theodorzdravevski9202 He made shoes for his rabbit.

Had to look this scene up after listening to Zach & Donald's podcast. The Janitor's entire duck story was made up on the spot.
Where can I watch the podcast?
@@Umi_Pumi it's on Apple music and spotify

Where do you think I got here from? XD
RIP Sam
Ted owns this scene with literally every line/action! Love him!
"I'm really not comfortable murdering for her."
Gonna miss you Ted! 😭 R.I.P Sam Lloyd
I love JD and the Janitor's interactions here. XD
"Truce on, truce on! It's my latte! D: And it's scalding hot."

The duck story is funny in itself, but the ”yup, those are jum legs” is the cherry on top

“You don’t get drunk on Jum. It’s a breakfast liqueur.”

WHY SHOULD THEY BE HAPPY. Oh, Ted... WHY YO SO FUNKY
Breakfast liqueur
I wonder how much of the Janitor was adlibbed.
Kai Creech ALL, all of it!
He wasn't even on payroll, they just filmed scenes around him as he wandered on set every day.
Quite a lot actually

He's happy now.
Omg, i listened to the podcast last week, and this scene just showed up in my recomended.
I don't wanna talk about this anymore!! lmao
The way he falls is class, lol.
Neil Flynn's performance as the Janitor reminds me of Leslie Nielsen - the man could say the most hilarious lines with a completely straight delivery!
A meme was born.

Why should they be happy!!!
Hooch went away with gooch
What a perfect comedic scene 😂😂😂😂😂
A breakfast liqueur, lol
Neil doesn't get a full script, or even one at all. He improvises most of his lines, and the rest of the crew works around it.

@BrianDurex lol, agreed. and chimera's got it right. best line of the clip
I had Jum yesterday and it tastes really horrible, but surprisingly I was able to walk afterwards!
Its a breakfast liqour
Jum.

Jum? Gin and Rum would be Gum wouldn't it?
Awh, poor Ted.
It is GUM everyone not JUM. GENE, GEM, GENIUS. Many words with a J sound start with a G. It is GUM.
yeh but then it would be gum.. like gums.. like where ur teeth live..

at that point you might as well drink either of the three straight.
