Thanks Benjamin. Actually, there has been a university-funded scientific survey done which has proven that watching a Gaming Rules! video at the start of a games night takes less time to explain to everyone how to play than it would to teach yourself. So thankyou for contributing to that survey. Note: I might be making this all up, its been a long day :) Did you spot a rule you were getting wrong - a few other people have :)
Yep! Caught a few things... The way the tech/order cards slide down the line, paying 1 Yen just for placing an assistant in a space with an opposing President and adding the extra tech value to the cards (when they have an extra cog with a number above them), oh, and that you can only use ONE Foreign Agent per turn. I don't think anyone did in our game, but will be important to point out in future plays as we get better at collecting those and more efficient in using them. The temptation will be there!
Paul and I watched the video and played this afternoon. Great game. Thanks for the video. I'll make sure to swing by your booth at UKGE to say thanks in person. :)
This is really weird for me to say this. But this video actually convinced me to buy this game. when I first saw the setup on BGG my first reaction was "holy damn that looks complicated." But as soon as you explained how the assistants worked and how moving through your assistants works in this game I was instantly hooked. This seems like a really fun and surprisingly simple game! I feel like I have a better grasp of this game than I do of most games after reading the manual myself! This is an excellent tutorial video!
This is also completely true for me. Watched the video on Monday evening, immediately ordered the game and had it by Wednesday. In between, watched several review videos, all of which were overwhelmingly positive. But it was your clear, concise explanation that convinced me I would really love this one and get a lot of plays in my groups with it. Thanks! And the cat animations were lovely too.
Awesome job, and thank you so much! Setting up the board and then looking at the rukebook has intimidated me from playing several times. I had sworn I would play this by my birthday however, and that is today. Found your video and watched it with my husband, and wow, everything just clicked. Subscribing to your channel so I can play more of the games from my "shelf of shame." ^_^
Great video Paul. I see that there were a couple of rules that I screwed up the first time I played this. Good to see what I need to correct for the next game.
Getting money from the trading houses, # value of technology instead of # of technology cards for end game scoring, and 5-power tiles being flipped up instead of flipped down on the board. Minor things that wouldn't have changed the game too much.
Great video - now I want the game! But the tie breaker for the church and customs seems wrong (17:26). You say the right most wins the tie (which makes sense) but then the color you say gets it is wrong. It should be yellow for the church and blue for the customs. I think maybe you make the mistake because you were looking at it upside down!
Jonathan A. You are the second person who spotted this. However, it is correct. The tiebreaker is the player on the right. In the church, blue has 2 cubes and yellow has 1, so blue wins.
Wow - you are, not surprisingly, absolutely correct! I just immediately assumed, for some reason, you were showing how the tiebreaker worked. I guess it would have helped folks like me if you had said for the church, how many tokens each has, thus emphasizing it doesn't use the tiebreaker. Ah well, my bad.
nope, you are right. As I mentioned, you are not the first person confused by this, so I should have taken the time to state it clearer. Lesson learned :)
Dusting it off the shelf again, and this is the definitive goto video to refresh the rules for me.
Just booking a flight to Yokohama so I can be forever start player. Be back in a week or so.
One of my friends has actually been there.... so he always starts....
Great video a usual. Any idea about when is going to hit european shelves?
I've heard in the next couple of weeks, but TMG are the best people to confirm that.
I think who people that live in Yokohama decides who is the first player? Maybe the oldest one because he/his was the first one to "visit" Yokohama?
One of the best video explanations of a board game I have seen. Clear and concise yet doesn't feel rushed.
This is fantastic. Took me 45 minutes to explain this to my friends the first time. I'm having them watch this next time. Great job, as always, Paul!

Really enjoy your rules videos. Organized, succint, and video examples are well-thought out to illustrate potential questions. Thank you!
Paul, your vids are, BY FAR, the most useful around the web if one's looking to simply learn how to play a game. Keep it up!!!!
Much appreciated. I personally find playthroughs more useful. However, they are much longer videos and I try to keep mine as short as possible :)
Great explanation Paul. Love when I find one of your videos for a game I need to learn.
Again, exceptional work Paul. Doesn't get any better than this, imho.
Thanks, really enjoyed doing this one.
This is another fantastic video that was so helpful getting me started playing Yokohama. Excellent work!
Thanks for this. Glad it was useful.
Huge job! Perfect explanation. Thanks a lot
I love those japenese styled games - looks like a interesting game!
Paul and I watched the video and played this afternoon. Great game. Thanks for the video. I'll make sure to swing by your booth at UKGE to say thanks in person. :)
Giving this a go on BGA tonight. Thanks for the video Paul.
"You cannot end up in the canal as you would get wet..." LOL!
Glad you liked it :)
Its 2020 and this video is still a hit!
Fantastic rules overview!! A must for learning Yokohama!!

Much appreciated.Yeah, it looks super complex from just looking at it, but the rules are not THAT complex.

Great explanation. I am trying it out on BGA now.
Thanks for the (as usual) excellent video, Paul. I think I'm ready to play this one now...
Hope it went ok. Game is easier than it looks
Very timely! Thank you, Paul.
Thank you, very nice. Greetings from Poland.
Game looks amazing. High on my wishlist. Edit: I've acquired and have had many plays. Love it.
great introduction, off to BGA for my first game
Fantastic! I was hoping you did a vid for this.
Dave Armstrong thanks Dave!
Great video and solid explaining. Playing this game tomorrow :)
Hope it goes well. Get the other players to watch the video at the start and then everyone knows how to play :)
This is an excellent video. Thank you.

Hey Jess. Thanks so much for the comment. Hope I can help more with some other games.
Great video Paul. I see that there were a couple of rules that I screwed up the first time I played this. Good to see what I need to correct for the next game.
Scott Neilitz which ones out of interest?

Awesome video as always, thanks!
Game arrived this afternoon. Punched and stickered and bagged. Watched this video over dinner, and now I'm ready to teach my wife. 👍

Excellent work.
Excellent. Thank you.

"You can't end your move in the Canal as you would get wet." lol
2023. Video is still perfect minus the fact TMG is no longer a thing.
Thanks. Still a great game.
Thanks!!!!
Thanks for watching. Hope it helped.
his eyes say "i smoke weed all day ery day" but his hair says "drugs are bad"
Why is the object to be the most famous merchant, rather than the richest?
great explanation! just to realize it's just feel too point-salad for me
Probably a good game but looks like a complete cluster fuck. Not a fan of of the stock quality clip art graphic design either.
